We use to love this place, but after our treatment last night, we are VERY disappointed. We made a reservation for 10 people in the outdoor seating. Upon arriving, we were told that our reservation was for indoors. My husband looked outside, and saw a table for 10, set up and empty. We asked about that table, and was told... More

As a Peruvian born I had a taste for a Authentic Peruvian dish. On my way to the restaurante I was day dreaming about LOMO SALTADO with a PAPA RELLENA as an entry. This was my first time in this restaurant in more than 20 years living in Chicago and after reading a lot of reviews about this restaurant giving... More

Ay Ay Picante is a simple storefront restaurant on the Northwest Side of Chicago that serves excellent traditional Peruvian food. If you're a visitor to the city, it's a bit of a trek from downtown, in a neighborhood with little to offer in terms of entertainment or attractions. However, if you've got a taste for Peruvian, you'd be hard-pressed to... More

Great Peruvian food, excellent service from Dago, huge portions! Came with my daughter for lunch on a spur of the moment... Exceeded my expectations. We had: empanada, arroz con mariscos (paella like), aji de gallina (chicken), & flan with chocolate. Wonderful! The seafood w so tender in the paella-like dish unlike how tough they often get in paella. They also... More

The food is excellent. The restaurant is a BYOB, which can really reduce the bill. The service is helpful. Have been here 2x, and can't imagine how many it would take to go through the extensive menu. Food is authentic. I know since I've had lots of Peruvian food before. Atmosphere is not the greatest, but if you go for... More

I'll admit the atmosphere was not crazy, but the food was soooo good! I really enjoyed it as we were just down near Peru (Guayaquil, Ecuador & Galapagos) and had some Peruvian dishes, so it took us back and tasted great! Both my husband and I loved it! We did research a few things before going in there so we... More

Enjoyed a delicious lunch here today. Had a very attentive waiter who served up an excellent shrimp ceviche (that had a little slow-building heat), an amazing vegetarian appetizer called "Ocopa" which was essentially a potato salad in the most amazing and different sauce, apparently made from, among other things, Peruvian black mint - it was unique and excellent. For our... More

Lots of potatoes...LOL. Peru known for their potaoes, I expected a lot of different choices, but mashed seemed to be the potato of the day. We ordered the cebiche (spelled as is on the menu) as an snack course and it with the bread was a meal all by itself. So good, very different from the ceviche I am used... More

Simply put ......1hr 45min for food to arrive. 8pm reservations and not seated until 8:45. My party of five endured 3 baskets of bread while watching the wait stafff run around in circles while giving us many excuses. As a result, we walked out before experiencing anything.

I belong to a BYOB dinner club and this month's event was held at Ay Ay Picante. I arrived a bit early, but fortunately had brought with me a binder filled with women to keep me occupied as I waited for my party to arrive. The decor at Ay Ay is... interesting. Red is definitely the theme here - the... More
