I can't believe I've never been here. And I can't believe anyone who liked Gene & Georgetti wouldn't like Erie Cafe better. The salad and cottage fries are similar, but better. The service and atmosphere are better. And the 22 oz. bone in prime rib was tender as butter. (Wish I'd taken a picture.)The location is a bit off the... More

We met friends who live in Chicago for dinner, and they suggested we go to Erie Cafe. What a terrific choice. We started with the grilled calamari, which we all agreed was was delicious. We then had the house salad, which was included with dinner (as was a plate of cottage fries), and followed with our entrees. Both ladies ordered... More

Great food and generous portions. My steak was perfect and my friends got the Chicken Parmesan and it looked very good and my friends agreed. The grilled asparagus was perfect and calamari was delicious.

Its fine that this place does not care about its appearance. Great that it wants to be seen as old school italian steak house...a mimic of Gene and Georgetti's. Its unpretentious unlike Hugos/Gibsons for example. But for gosh sakes, the food should be excellent as well as the service. I would give this place a -star if I could on... More

I have been here a few times and has been delicious every time. My favorite items are the grilled calamari (that sauce), bone in ribeye (that char) and the Chilean sea bass. Today I had the Chilean sea bass special. A wonderful piccata sauce came with it. Best I have ever had. I sat on the patio today. Nice area.... More

The place has a nice terrace by the Chicago river that is pretty sweet in the summertime. The interior is like many a steakhouse- dark, brass trimmings at the bar and on the dividers, dark leather- so no big differentiation. I had a bone-in strip loin steak, medium rare. Quite good and juicy. Humongous size. Steaks come with a side... More

We sat on the patio area across the street, overlooking the river. It was a fresh summer day, so it was perfect for the patio. I had the Homemade Ravioli with meat sauce, which was delicious.

Just every now and again, it's nice to eat in a restaurant that doesn't really care about a its appearance and focuses more on an overall enjoyable experience. The waiter was great, if you asked for something that he didn't think was right, he wouldn't serve it, he even had a shot at the table, not with us, just by... More

They offer one of the better outdoor dining venues in the city. The Grilled Calamari is the best you'll ever have and the Veal Chop is the best in the city. And if you have a well behaved dog they will allow you to bring your dog, but remember, well behaved.
