They offer one of the better outdoor dining venues in the city. The Grilled Calamari is the best you'll ever have and the Veal Chop is the best in the city. And if you have a well behaved dog they will allow you to bring your dog, but remember, well behaved.

I would put this place up against any of its fancy downtown competitors. The steaks and sides are incredible and perfectly cooked. It has a full load of "throwback' ambiance and the wine list is extensive and very reasonably priced. Deserts are killer as well. Top place to eat in the city.

Two business associates and I had lunch at the Erie Cafe and we felt that we had walked through a time warp into an earlier time. The decor is reminiscent of a 1940's/50's supper club--not old and tired but fresh and retro. The menu takes you back to earlier times with items I have not seen on a menu in... More

Very busy, but well worth the wait. I joyed the French toast and eggs, while my wife loved the pancakes and eggs. If you get there midmorning or midweek the wait is shorter.

It's not cheap. Chicken sandwich was good sooo large portions. Besides cogge is too expensive and not fresh. I gave up on desert when I tried coffee-8$ ? Way tooooooooooo much. Waiters are too slow. They have to cut and fry French fries in better way- not tooo inviting to eat it.

Went to lunch today with my wife and another couple and had a wonderful dining experience. We had a couple of appetizers, the peppers and Italian sausage was great. We also had the roasted calamari which was delicious. Generally not a fan of calamari, but it was delicious. Had the ribeye steak, "out of this world". The food and ambiance... More

I love this place. I am a regular. Extensive menu. Try the "flintstone" size prime rib. I dare ya. It's getting warmer and there outside dining by the river will be open. It's open for smokers too including cigars. I love the Chicken Vesuvio, the lamb chops and the prime rib. It's a friendly place where they remember you. Enjoy

Erie Cafe at 536 West Erie Street in an obscure part of River North is an old-time Italian steakhouse that deserves more than it gets. Over the years, it has accumulated a large and loyal crowd of diners who appreciate fine steaks, chops, seafood, veal, pasta and perhaps the best prime rib you've ever had. Did I say veal? When... Outstanding prime steaks that won't leave you hungry. Both the bone-in ribeye and strip were excellent. The ambiance has the feeling of a decades old Chicago steakhouse although it's not been around as long a a couple other well known Chicago landmark spots. However, the entrees and sides equal the City's best. If you crave excellently prepared beef in a... More

For a long time, Erie Cafe was a great place to enjoy excellent steaks and other nicely prepared meals. Great ambiance as well. A key attraction was the reasonable pricing for menu options that are "standard" fare; this is a traditional restaurant without the trendy nuances of high priced chefs, interior decorators, and "art" for food. However, Erie has substantially... More
