We love to eat here and the crab avocado dish is terrific. We were disappointed in our small table but ultimately were fine with it. The oysters and fish were very good. Our waiter's interest was diverted to another table with a very vocal customer which was disappointing.

We ate here for dinner since they offer a very similar menu as Gibson's and we wanted steak. The food was excellent and the service was good. But what's with those giant pieces of cake?? It seemed like every table was celebrating something and brought out an ENORMOUS piece of cake! The table next to us was celebrating a birthday... More

Am being generous to give 3 stars, but as someone who has traveled extensively, I'm not generally a white table cloth kind of person. After we got past the waiter's slightly arrogant nature, we had an enjoyable dinner and evening. Have been here before and would not have returned, but my wife got a $100 gift card from her boss,... The happy hour serving oysters for $1 and bargain wines by the glass is worthwhile. The restaurant itself is very popular and often crowded. Portions are oversized and fish is allegedly fresh everyday. There is nothing special about the food's preparation and drinks are forgettable. The calamari appetizer was just ok and the octopus was tough. Tuna entrees involved a... More

Reservations are a must. Excellent fish, seafood and steaks. I would recommend the whitefish, beautiful presentation. My 13 yr old didn't like the menu so the waiter showed him the gibsons (same owner of restaurant next door) and he ordered the cheeseburger. So glad they could accommodate everyone at the table...

Outstanding, amazing, fantastic are just some of the words that come close to the experience we had dining at Hugo's. We ordered the Chilean Sea Bass and Scallops. The best Chilean Sea Bass we've EVER had! It was tender, cooked to perfection, and flaky. The scallops were plump juicy and tender as well. The service was great too. The manager... More

Always a great place to eat and drink, unless it's a Sunday afternoon. This edition of Hugo's Frog Bar doesn't open for lunch. Makes no sense to me.

Been one of my wife and I's favorites for years, but this time there were 7 of us (inc my 77 year old mother) for dinner on the 23rd. Everything was absolutely flawless. Oysters, calamari, blackened tuna, salmon, Gibson's steaks, sides, and of course those terrifying desserts. Special thanks to Chris our waiter. The whole family, particularly the 4 that... More

'hot spot. fun, vibrant, great food and wine... I've not been a 'calamari devotee'; however, I tried it at Hugo's and ate ' the 'whole thing'. The Manager visited all tables and welcomed the patrons.... It was great touch.

Staying in Gold Coast

Neighborhood Profile
Gold Coast
Located just north of The Loop, Gold Coast is one of Chicago’s most affluent and popular neighborhoods. The original Playboy, Hugh Hefner, once had a mansion here. In addition to prestigious hotels, historic mansions and luxury high-rise apartments, you’ll also find upscale specialty boutiques and Michelin-starred restaurants. Walk along Oak Street for your shopping fix and dance through the night along Rush Street. The Newberry Library is also a great stop to check out noteworthy exhibits and rare book collections.
