I was able to visit several times this summer so have had several dishes. The croque monsieur and pommes frites are great. Love the cafe au lait. The atmosphere is relaxing. When the weather is nice the large windows are opened to the street. Everyone who works there is so nice. Although it's can be a busy tourist area, Bistro... More

We come here often because it is in our neighborhood. Weekends can get busy but brunch works well when we come with our family. It is a French restaurant so there are some limitations to their menu but it there are a lot of offerings. This is NOT a place for children to run around but, if they are well... More

What a lovely place! My wife and I fell in love with this place on a recent weekend visit to Chicago. Not too expensive, unlike most of the gold Coast area, we found ourselves eating well prepared, well served bistro style food. L'Onglet Steak, Grilled hangar steak with cauliflower gratin and haricots-verts at 27.95 was just perfect! My wife had... More

This place looks and feels right, like many other French brasseries/bistros I've eaten at. However, both my wife and I felt that the food was just average. My wife's Salade du Bistrot was bland, my Salade Lyonnaise, primarily because of the bacon lardons and the poached egg (those will improve any salad!). I went for a classic Steak Frites and... More

We came across this place walking around and stopped in. The decor was nice and it was all very clean. I wish I had gotten our servers name because he was very warm and friendly. We aren't real familiar with french food and he took the time to explain the menu. He also gave me a little flashlight so I... More

Our first visit to Bistrot Zinc but we found the online menu appealing and it was an easy walk from our hotel so we gave it a try. The bib lettuce salad was crisp and the vinagarett dressing was outstanding and the endive salad was complimented by blu cheese that was incredible. Scallop appetizer is to die for and the... More

I enjoyed my usual French favorites here at this upbeat, cheerful bistro true to French roots. Not really a tourist place. Seems to have its local crowd and occasional wayfarers. Solid food, good Fremch wines. I'm a fan.

Bistro Zinc has been a consistant option in the Gold Coast area for many years. Uncomplicated bistro menu, very good service at th bar and tables. Dave will guide you through the wine menu if you need it, and make suggestions on traditional, as well as the chef specialties on the menu. The sauteed calf's liver is always a good... More

We had a great dinner at Bistro Zinc. Food was authentic and terrific. The service was excellent. We loved the duck, trout, and steak frites. Great mousse and pot de creme.

One of the last bistros around. I don't get what is happening. Maybe the millenials don't care to actually sit and dine - they often seem not to wish to converse when they can play with electronic devices instead. This is a lively genuine bistro with a predictable menu, reasonably priced, with above-average quality dishes. The escargots are done right,... More

Staying in Gold Coast

Neighborhood Profile
Gold Coast
Located just north of The Loop, Gold Coast is one of Chicago’s most affluent and popular neighborhoods. The original Playboy, Hugh Hefner, once had a mansion here. In addition to prestigious hotels, historic mansions and luxury high-rise apartments, you’ll also find upscale specialty boutiques and Michelin-starred restaurants. Walk along Oak Street for your shopping fix and dance through the night along Rush Street. The Newberry Library is also a great stop to check out noteworthy exhibits and rare book collections.
