There aren't too many places to find a hot balanced meal in the middle of the loop. But amidst all the fast food restaurants is Cavanaugh's, where you can get a tasty sit down meal from an extensive menu with excellent service at a reasonable price. That's on the restaurant side. On the bar side, drinks are flowing and a... More

It seemed like a downtown bar for lunch, a little out of the way. I was amazed at their interpretation of Salad Nicoise with a huge grilled tuna steak. I will be back.

I have lunched here many times, most recently today. It offers seasonal salads, burgers and several soups daily. It's consistent, often crowded during lunch hours, but its most distinctive feature is the elegance of this historic 1893 building, beautifully restored. Plan time to walk the halls and explore the architectural details inside and out.

My wife and I had a quick dinner - we went in at 7 pm on a Friday night and were astonished as we were the only customers during the meal. Bar was crowded though. In spite of the horrifying plastic tableclothes and 25-watt light bulbs, the food (mahi & Santa Fe salad) was really good.

Drinks are a little light on the alcohol. Nice spot to stop in for an adult beverage. Older bar not too busy. Never had the food so no comment there.

This is a decent place to have a good lunch for a reasonable price. Standard menu of salads, burgers, and other fare. The Mac n Cheese was particularly good and the stir fry and quiches were ok, not spectacular, but ok, particularly given the price. We'd come here again.

The restaurant is in one of the oldest buildings in Chicago. Take a walk down the hallway it is interesting. The restaurant is like stepping back in time. The menu had enough selections to make it interesting. Our meals were well prepared. The service was friendly and efficient. I would go again.

Cavanaugh's is located in the historic Monadnock Building in Chicago which was built in the early 1900s and designed by famous Chicago architect Louis Sullivan. The restaurant is designed as an Irish pub, but has a separate dining area as well. Burgers are charbroiled, large and delicious. Owner Curt is always there to greet, assist and assure the prompt and... More

We're from CA, and were looking for a place for dinner around 7 pm. It was empty when we arrived (not a good sign). . .and no other customers came in at all during our meal, not even in the bar area. This must be an after-work kind of place. The kitchen closes at 8 pm. They literally scorched the... More
