Located within the Peninsula hotel, one of Chicago's top hotels, one level below the lobby, the Shanghai Terrace is a refuge of tranquility and exquisite cuisine. While there is a beautiful indoor dining area, dining on the terrace can be a great experience, especially if the weather cooperates. The decor is subdued and tasteful. Service is impeccable, but it is... More

My wife, son and I had a wonderful dinner at this restaurant on 17Jul2016. Although there is a nice seating area outside, we preferred to stay inside as it was a very warm summer night. The ambient is very nice. Prices are not low. This restaurant is in The Peninsula Hotel. I had the Green Leaves Shrimp Dumpling (4 dumplings... More

There is nothing about this place that isn't fantastic. Elegance, quietness, perfect service, perfect food. From the Dim Sum menu, be sure to try the Fois Gras with Duck Confit. Don't let the appearance scare you: it tastes like a pastry filled with delicious meat. As seems usual with Chinese food (even in this elegant place) the cost is very... More

By the queues at this restaurant on the three occasions I went would suggest this is a popular venue and rightly so. Food is pricey but good. Service highly attentive. Dining on the terrace gives an al fresco twist to your meal here.

We had heard many wonderful things about the Shanghai Terrance and decided to try it. The terrace was beautiful and made the experience that much better. The waiter recommended many items for us to try, but this was lunch so we only tried a few. The dim sung was delicious, the buns and the noodle dish were okay. I wish... More

I was enticed by an article found in a Chicago publication and made a reservation for a Saturday with a friend of mine. This was my first visit and I was thrilled with everything. We shared Dim Sum and then each ordered an entree. Everything was fantastic from the welcome to the lovely outdoor patio to the service and of... More

What a wonderful place to celebrate my birthday! The room is oddly long with big french doors to the terrace. Unfortunately it was raining so we could not go outside. The food was wonderful and the service was friendly. We had several appetizers including a delightful peking duck and soup dumplings. Be sure to tell them if you are celebrating--... More

In the exotic Peninsula Hotel. This Chinese restaurant is elegant. The food was delicious and the decor a cut above the usual Chinese restaurant decor. The service was friendly but not super efficient. Unfortunately it was too chilly for us to eat outside on the terrace. We did expect a pricey menu, however I think the prices are definitely over... The terrace at night provides both fantastic city views and an elegant, swanky vibe - perfect for an occasion or date night. Tables are placed quite far apart; so combined with comfortable outdoor furniture, beautiful lighting, and strategically placed decorative items, the whole atmosphere is one of cozy, intimate luxury. The food was fantastic. The prawns were possibly the biggest,... More

The food is amazing, that atmosphere is fantastic. It's different than anyplace I have ever been and I would totally recommend it. It's like PF Changs on steroids.
