Billed to me by NYC colleagues as the best restaurant in Chicago I took a client here for dinner and I wasn't disappointed. Cool interior with a nice ambience perfect for chatting or you can sit at the bar and eat if you are a solo traveller. I had an excellent Bloody Mary and enjoyed the meal although overall I... More

First off, I would like to say the food was absolutely fantastic. We had 2 appetizers, 2 entrees (the poached halibut and suckling pig), a cheese board and a dessert. While everything was great, the 2 entrees were definitely the stand-outs. Service was excellent as I would expect from a starred restaurant. This leads me to me biggest issues, the... More

With so many excellent not Michelin rated restaurants and many fabulous one star rated ones, the blackbird just does not cut it. I could never understand how they got one star. From overly understated decor, to feeing cramped into tiny space "rubbing elbows" with other patrons to unimpressive flavors and too much salt. I must say , the service was nice... More

Sadly underwhelming for a Michilin-starred restaurant. Upon arrival, we found the only row of tables so crowded, the table had to be pulled away from my date and then shoved back up against her. There was about four inches to the left or the right. The food wasn't too my taste, but tasting menus are meant to be challenging. The... More

It was all in all a great tasting menu, but I've had better, and at a much lower price. When you factor in value with wow factor, it might be missing the mark slightly. Every bite we had was tasty, interesting or both. The only miss was the gummy cavatelli. Highlights were the pumpernickel and onion dish, the chicken heart... More

Blackbird is acclaimed for “elegant and imaginative Midwestern cuisine” crafted in a sleek and spare space that has won the James Beard Award for best restaurant design. When a group of us from Knoxville visited for lunch recently, we knew it would be good. But we didn't know just how good! Everything was wonderful. Those who ordered hanger steak with... More

GM David B. Gets full marks for rescuing us after a 30 minute plus wait for our reservation which meant dining well after 10pm and we were "hangry". Moreover, his sincere and professional treatment of us warmed us to the real feature of the place - the food quality is excellent. The endive salad is presented in a basket with... More

Don't be put off by the busy street side street location and outlook from this small but excellent restaurant. Food (and aperitifs) is imaginative using seasonal ingredients with interesting combinations worthy of Michelin Star. Tables are quite close together -easy to over hear conversation on table next to us. Reserve a window table if available. Staff well informed and helpful.... More

We were convinced Blackbird was closed. I tried the door just in case. We were welcomed inside and given a table despite not having booked. There was no trace from the restaurant exterior of the activity within, yet the understatement continued from the outside in. Blackbird is chic and minimalist. The clientele are well heeled Chicagites of all ages. It's... More
