This is by far the best Chinese food north of the Chicago River and they have the best Orange Chicken in all of Chicago. It's been around for a long time and will continue to be around for a long time in the future.

A go to place for everyday lunch, changed owner, more friendly, better tasting food, same items on menu, nice décor and cleaner, friendly and quick service, owner is down to earth, approachable, and reasonable, unlike previous owner which was very hyper active and nick picky. A nice neighborhood restaurant as well as a nice place for a quick bite for lunch, any day except Monday when they are closed. More authentic Chinese tasting food and not that old Chinese/Taiwanese combination type. When you go to ethnic restaurant you want to see the true color and taste the true favor of that custom food item, not a "half and half" this has indeed the true favor of Chinese restaurant serving true Chinese food. Try it out yourself

Appetizer of onion cake was a great way to start this meal. The steamed bean curd roll was not something I would have chosen. The dried cook string beans was fabulous. The chicken egg foo young was okay though I prefer it on the crispy side, which this wasn’t. The steamed fish fillet in hot pot seemed to be enjoyed though I didn’t taste it. The final item was a beef dish which I found to be unremarkable. The food was presented as it was cooked, rather than brought out together. So our main courses were brought out at different times. The ambiance was unmemorable. Our server was great.

The service is quite good and the menu is extensive. They seem to do a brisk take-out business. The garlic shrimp and the hot and sour soup were fine, but nothing out of the ordinary.

this is a go to place for week day lunch, no crowd, excellent service, good food, especially the lunch special, not over packing with food on plate, but enough for a midday meal. nice quiet place for a conversation with friends for lunch or a small crowd for business luncheon. Ignore the owner, she can be in a hyper drive mood with talks. She should know the different between being kind and socializing with customers and loading of person negative stories that becomes overwhelming her guests.

The food is as you remember as a kid. I enjoyed the onion cakes with the ginger sauce. Not fusion or experimental at all. The staff is friendly and pays attention to your needs.

I ordered some food here. It was only average. The sweet and sour chicken was just all right. Nothing special. The hot and sour soup serving size is gigantic.

Before when I reviewed this place I found it favorable, however, since I ordered shrimp this time I've changed my mind. The most basic thing of deveining the shrimp was completely overlooked. I do not enjoy eating the shrimp's digestive tract. It's simply a matter of cleaning the shrimp before cooking, and I don't understand why this isn't done?

I enjoyed this restaurant. The staff were very friendly. It's BYOB, and the food is reasonably priced, and certainly worth a try.

I have ordered take out form Mei Shung several times and really enjoy the selection of Taiwanese and Chinese offerings. Their fried rice is always on point and I really enjoyed their crispy fried chicken wings. I will definitely be back as the food is consistently good and prepared quickly. They also have a great lunch special which includes soup, and egrool, main entree and fried rice. A great deal for under $7!

We pass by Mei Shung often but ate there only once. It's been a while, but I remember being pleased. We got dinner delivered last night (East Rogers Park) and were very pleased with the quality of our three appetizers and one entrée: HOMEMADE steamed potstickers (lots of filling) BBQ pork (hot hot peppers) chicken wings (really crispy, probably deep fried); Main course plenty to share was Phoenix and Dragon (a mystery when we ordered it) a container of firm fairly large shrimp with lots of vegetables and (we think) sliced duck breast with some kind of fruit sauce----duck was a little overcooked) All in all quite good for takeout dinner.
Delivery took longer than promised, almost 1 1/2 hours; the delivery guy apologized for getting lost.

Charming, small and clean, without a lot of noise. My kind of place!!
They do not use MSG. Yeah! Prepared well is their Taiwanese and Mandarin Cuisine. Don't just take my word for it. WBBM News radio says it also. They have carry out and they deliver….They are closed on Mondays. If you are near Foster and Hollywood and between Sheridan Rd. and Clark. Try It, You'll Like it.

We know good Chinese when we meet it and this is it! Sizzling chicken soup sizzled and satisfied. The basil and beef in lettuce was outstanding. The mushu chicken was great! The dry fried green beans were really well done. And the shrimp with rice noodles was fabulous.
A great place that we enjoy often!

We've been dining on New Year's Eve or New Year's Day at Mei Shung for years. A family tradition.
It's not splashy; the mellow pastel walls, high ceiling and soft classical music are sort of soothing. Parking is tough. You can pay a few bucks for meters on Broadway or circle the neighborhood for a freebie. And there is a Broadway bus and an L stop not too far. After dark, it's easy to miss...a small neon sign is all that announces it to the street. But locals know where it is.
Service is attentive and engaging. When we asked our server what's the difference between Taiwanese cuisine and mainland Chinese cuisine, she explained that "Taiwan food just tastes better!"
We have 3 "go-to" dishes at Mei Shung. The "dry cooked green beans" are seasoned perfectly with garlic and soy sauce. We were a little disappointed in our recent visit in another fave, the "Fish in sea salt and pepper" dish...a little bland and maybe undercooked; usually it's great, though. And Mei Shung sets the standard for Orange Beef: deep-fried beef strips, smothered in spicy orange sauce with lots of zing. Outstanding! We also shared the Hunan Chicken, which was tender and tasty.
Most entrees are in the $10-15 range. BYOB. They also do a brisk delivery business. See you there next New Year's Day!
