Tea smoked Duck was excellent. Orange Fish, green beans, cold sesame noodles...everything was incredible including the service.

This is a szechuan style restaurant. When I walked in I expected the prices to be too high. The restaurant is nicely decorated and the music is pleasing but not obtrusive. It seemed rally classy. This restaurant is two blocks from the 'Asia on Argyle"...area. There are a lot of Asian restaurants near by. This place is one of the best. I had garlic beef off of the lunch special menu. It cost less than $10 and was wonderful. The spring roll and soup were about par . The main diash was excellent. It was plentiful and with the atmosphere was like eating in a much more expensive place. If you want to take a significant person out, this place is a good choice.More
Super food, consistent quality, friendly service sums up what you can expect at this restaurant. A must if you haven’t been there.
Friday night dinner on January 4th, 2019 at Michigan Ave location in Chicago. Second time at this location. My first time experience was good with same duck order. This time I ordered again the Half duck, eggplant and Chinese broccoli plus a dumplings appetizer. We...had two glasses of Riesling as well. The $48 half duck platter had a lot of duck fat and few pieces of meat. I was in great mood and I did not feel like complaining about the meat scarcity. The veggies ordered were plenty and we realized we ordered too much food overall. The bill came out somewhere at $128-$130. Since I was unhappy with the Duck meat quantity for $48, I decided to adjust my tip lower to a 12%, which was just over $15. When I was leaving with my date from the restaurant I was approached by the waitress and asked what number was on the paper. She stated $15 is kind of small. She was expecting between $20 -$30. I mentioned the quantity of duck meat was not consistent with my prior experience at same restaurant. It was a lot of fat. She continued to challenge and accusing me as patron and customer that was my responsibility to complain and then she would’ve been able to fix the issue. The “suggested” tip is 18%-22% and 25%. However the TIP given by the patron for great service which includes the waiter, cook, chef etc. The customer is still the King and should NOT be abused by underpaid waiters at this Chinese restaurant. What a ruined Friday evening chosing the wrong restaurant !More
Couldn't have had a better experience. The service was attentive but not overbearing, the food came out quickly and piping hot and the lunch cost ($8) included a generous portion (kung pao chicken for me), an appetizer and soup. The food was flavorful and spicy,...I'd highly recommend going there.More
I was there for dinner with a friend. The atmosphere, the staff: really good! The menu: huge (but lacks a bit of information fo how the dis would be - unless you know all the terms of the chinese cuisine, you might be lost a...bit) The food: good - but nothing special! The meat is not the best quality, the vegetabels were quite ok. Rice needed to be ordered extra (what is ok for me), but the promised refill for the rice never happened! For what you get the price is ok - but not more than thisMore
BYOB Chinese restaurant, part of a chain. Pretty extensive menu. Prices reasonable. Entree portions generous. Friendly helpful servers good with descriptions of various dishes & able to explain differences. Willing to customize your order regarding ingredients and spicing. We tried moo shu pork which came...with wrapper skins & plum sauce. It was very tasty. Also had the Szechuan string beans with some chilis for heat. Spinach with ginger sauce was good, chicken egg rolls filling was good. Server presented a complementary app of spicy cabbage. Good to munch while you peruse the menu. Although there are many choices for Asian food in this neighborhood, this one may have more familiar dishes. Everything we tried was well prepared and fresh and delicious. Good choice for take out too.More
This place is great. They have a few locations, I have been to the one in Chinatown as well as this location. Both are great, this location is a little nicer and newer inside. Food is great and service was excellent when I last visited.
Found this place on uber eats. I now think about spicy Tony’s Chicken with 3 chili. It was amazing. Like a dry version of general Chicken but with a ton of flavor instead of just being sweet, we got the mildly spicy and it wasn’t...overly hot but I like very hot,the noodles I got were the exact opposite of the heat scale, but to be fair once it got to the lips and tongue it didn’t continue to burn like some hot sauces. I didn’t feel I was winning a bit just that it was way hotter than indicated. For 2 people the chicken and the $1 rice would have been plenty. We had way to much food but it was sooner cheep and not a bad mouthful. Excellent cheap food especially if you want something lake at night that’s not swimming in oil or a burger. I only gave it 4 stars because of the inconsistency of the heat of both supposedly mild dishes, but for flavor and portion size it would have got 5 stars without question.More
I had dinner here I a really loved it. I had asked for delivery 4 times while in Chicago, it's really good. I highly recommend this place if you are a fan of Chinese food, especially spicy ones. The menu variety is out of this...world. If you don't like too much spicy they have non-spicy options.More
Great food and nice environment. We love spicy food, so I brought my families from out of town to lao sze chuan uptown, where close by my campus- Loyola university. Once we arrived, we got table right away for party of 8, we order like...10 items. Couple high-lights, chef special dry chilis chicken and Szechuan string bean. Food came out fast and our server is very friendly and attentive. Bedroom is very clean!!! Great place, we will be back for sure.More
The food served for our large group was either fiery spicy or overly sweet. Pretty basic meals served on sticky tables. The service s excellent. There is no liquor served and the decor is "closed neighborhood bar". Portions are large and prices are moderate.
My spouse, friends and I ended up here after another restaurant had a line out the door, and so I went in to this experience already feeling disappointed about missing out on what I'd planned to have for dinner. Fortunately, the quality of food and...service at Lao Sze Chuan made up for it! Not only does their menu have authentic dishes like preserved eggs (much to my friends' delight), there are a number of vegetarian options making it a place that can satisfy a wide range of tastes and dietary restrictions. My spouse had a spicy beef dish that he enjoyed, and I had tofu with mixed vegetables. Enough rice was brought out for 4 adults and the server was delightful and accommodating my friends with their 7 month old without hesitation. I would definitely recommend eating here again, but families- be aware the restaurant is on the small/narrow side, so leave the double-wide strollers home (because I don't think they'll fit through the door).More
Have been to most of their branches and a meal at Lao Sze Chuan is always a must on every visit to Chicago. Their food is excellent, and consistently so. The service is very good and the staff very friendly and helpful.
We were a family of seven looking for a place to eat dinner on Christmas Day, when we chanced across this restaurant. The restaurant is several floors up (there is an elevator). Our server was very helpful in making suggestions of dishes we may like....We ordered a wide variety of items and there was not scrap of food left at the end of the meal. Everything was fresh and tasty.More
