Service was prompt as I ordered out n it ready when they said it would. Unfortunately still cannot eat inside but great for take out if we live downtown. Had shrimp n veggie tempura n Ramen as other folks rated it pretty high on reviews....Both were great n the Shoyu Ramen had the pork just perfect. It was easy to add everything together as I live just about a 5 min drive. Lots of food n didn’t feel like I had add more Ramen as it was plenty fo 2!More

I have been eating here for over 20 years! This is a newer location but the food is the same. It’s truly authentic Japanese and there are many Japanese people eating here. The sushi is top quality and the prices are extremely reasonable. It’s not...a fancy place, but just an authentic, high quality, friendly restaurant where you can get a wide variety of items. There’s wonderful combo plates that come with sushi or sashimi/excellent tempura and various teriyaki’s - all served with miso and ice cream. They also have delicious katsu, sukiyaki and other Japanese entrees that you cannot find in the fancy places. Their sashimi platters are less expensive and better quality than most restaurants. You must give this place a try for authentic and well priced Japanese food!More

We order from Matsuya quite often and have never been disappointed in the quality of sushi. We've pretty much tried the whole menu and even asked for unique combos and the chef follows through. Love the edamame though it's a bit less steamed and slightly...soggy by the time it gets to us but still delicious. One of these days, we will have to actually go to the restaurant but meanwhile, we highly recommend Matsuya for carry-out!More

I hadn't been back to Matsuya for many years. This was always one of my favorite Japanese restaurants...but the busy neighborhood and the fact that I don't live nearby had kept me away. I found myself in the area and decided to try an old...favorite and to my surprise, it is as good as I remember it to be. The service was attentive. They gave us a complimentary appetizer. The portions were generous. The food came out hot and delicious. Try one of the combos....they are a steal at $20! Sashimi, tempura, rice, soup, sunomono, Teriyaki and even dessert! Now that I tried it again, I will be back very soon. BTW, I am Japanese and consider this authentic Japanese food!More

I was here with a friend, wasn't very hungry (which is probably not the best start for a 5-star review) and chose a roll randomly. Although the friendly service seemed a little slow (the place was far from crowded), I fully enjoyed my meal, that...woke up my appetite : I asked for a little extra temaki at the end. Prices : totally OK. Next time I am in Chicago, I sure must come back here to double check my opinion.More

Their food is good, but we had the worst customer experience there today. We were seated and ordered right away. The miso soup came quickly, but once a large party came in, they completely forgot about us. We ordered the Matsuya set A and waited...for 40 minutes before I finally asked the waitress if at least the sashimi was coming from our set. When she heard, she went and asked the chef. They immediately started to slice it up. Then our food came out shortly and it was completely cold. I ordered something to go right away for a family member, since it took so long for our food to come out. We made no complaints, because we knew it was busy. When I got home, it was the wrong order. They really did not care at all that we waited so long for everything and only cared about the big party. Our whole meal lasted almost 2 hours.More

I wanted my husband to try some real authentic Japanese food in Chicago. Growing up in Chicago, my parents and I would go to Matsuya's near Addison, so I wanted to see if it was still there. We came by this restaurant which was not...the original, but decided to try anyway. They have a huge menu with reasonable prices. Picture menu was helpful if you're a novice. We ordered the Matsuya sushi combo (10 pieces with tempura roll), their 4 piece white fish special, and 2 pcs of fatty tuna. The sushi was fresh, the urchin and scallop shooters with quail eggs were interesting start to the meal. The octopus in batter (takoyaki) got cold quick, tasted too much batter. The chicken teriyaki was great. See photos! Service was nice and attentive. Say hi to Ice and Nina. Total bill was $95 for 2 persons, but we took a lot of food home with us. We would return again.More

We have been here several times. The food is always outstanding. We had appetizers, sushi, sashimi. and dessert. We also ordered some of their specialty rolls, (the Monster and the Dragon). For the sushi and sahimi we went with the chef's selection, we always do,...and have NEVER been disappointed. We have also ordered to go for lunch at the office. Keep this place on your to go list.More

As an Asian teenager, I LOVE JAPANESE AND CHINESE FOOD! So when my cousins suggested to go to to Matsuya, I agreed. Let me just say- their udon is AMAZING. So is their rice! I LOVE IT and would totally recommend for Japanese food lovers.

Been searching for a Japanese resto in Chicago that serves takoyaki and YES they have it here! They also serve free fried tofu that is crunchy yet soft just deliciously good! Oh and try the katsu don too. Definitely worth the hour drive !

I used to live nearby and this was my go to sushi place for a long time. It's nothing fancy, but they have a nice variety and the quality is usually very good. The place is very casual and i think they do a lot...of takeout.More

My fiancé and I go here often. Usually very good (4-stars). Not the best on this occasion. In particular, the tuna was a bit stringy (anyone who's had maguro knows the texture of an excellent piece of tuna). I tried the Hawaiian roll. Mango, tuna...and avocado just don't work together for me (but I'm not blaming the restaurant for my choice). We'll go back. Just disappointed by the tuna on this one visit. If management reads these: don't skimp on the quality of the tuna.More
