This restaurant is one of my favorites. But, the outdoor dining experience wasn't good. I understand the pandemic has made it hard, but other restaurants are doing better with outdoor service. We arrived for our reservation and were told our table was half a block...north and then a tad east, to a shut down street. That was ok, we were not upset. All tables are without cover, so prepare for sun, but still ok. Our little tiny table rocked mercilessly, but they eventually moved us, still ok. The bar code thing didn't work, but we found menus online, still ok. Once we ordered, we only received some of the normal pre-dinner complimentary stuff and it was in take out containers. I wish the waiter had warned us we wouldn't get our salads. We were given little tiny plastic plates and plastic utensils wrapped in a napkin, like regular take-out. Our big disappointment was when our dinner arrived, in a huge take out bag. We had little tiny plastic plates, plastic utensils and no room on our tiny table to unwrap dinner and accommodate lids. We had Naan balanced on tandoori chicken. This was family style and we had to serve with our little plastic utensils. I look forward to returning when we can eat inside and the pandemic is over.More

I was able to try the food from Tandoor Char House at a popup Fooda in the State of Illinois building, The food was very tasty, and I would now be interested in trying the larger menu at the brick and mortar location on Halsted.

A group of us were visiting Chicago and this place was recommended to us. Hands down some of the best Indian food we've had. The tandoori chicken was a huge it. Along with the chicken tikka masala, garlic naan and the beef samosa. We will...definitely return!More

We have been to many Indian and Pakistani restaurants; this was surely one of the best. Everything we ordered was delicious and the service was superb. The restaurant is small yet cozy and not noisy. We look forward to many more visits!

Food was tasty, the quiet atmosphere was great for having an extended conversation, and our server was so attentive and helpful. Wonderful place to linger for two hours over a meal!

went there on a Friday evening, was a group of six. We had mostly vegetarian, but also tired the tandoor chicken bodi, which was cooked perfectly. I personally loved the biryani, and while the okra was not the way I usually prefer it, it was...flavorful. The owner swung by to make sure everything was to our satisfaction and we left full and satisfied.More

Delivery was fairly slow, close to an hour and this was saturday afternoon so can't have been too busy. Both the chicken karhai and the beef nehari had way too much sauce, and neither were spicy at all, even though I asked for extra spicy....The portions are pretty big and the garlic naan was very nice but the bottom was a bit burnt in places, overall an average meal, would give it 1 more shot if there was a voucher.More

Great place - very friendly and enthusiastic owner/manager. Huge portions so go hungry! Very reasonably priced. BYOB with you - they'll put it on ice for you. Within walking distance of Kingston Mines, BLUES and aliveone bar.

We cam here for dinner and the food was very good. But the service was WAY too slow for us to go back. In addition, they did not have the air conditioning turned on, so it was uncomfortably warm - we were literally sweating while...eating dinner.More

I would have given this a much higher rating if we hadn't had some serious glitches in our experience. We waited a long time for our order to be taken, then a longer time for any food to come. When it did come, there were...green and red peppers on top of both tandoor dishes, in spite of my explicit request when ordering that no peppers of any kind be included. The waiter assured us they would not put peppers in or on anything, specifically the tandoor dishes. But there they were. So I couldn't eat those dishes. Also, what was that terrible odor that pervaded the restaurant?More

We had already had one bad experience here (we were given raw chicken) but thought we would give them another chance. Mistake. We ordered a take out and were told it would be ready in 20 mins. 45 minutes later we were still waiting. When...we came to eat the food it was tasteless and just not very nice. The only saving grace was the small pot of tikka masala sauce which was tasty. I would give this place a miss.More

Upon entering the restaurant I though it smelled odd - a strong cleaner odor perhaps that was VERY unappealing. After being at the restaurant for 15 minutes and with all of the wonderful smells from the kitchen I couldn't smell it anymore (thank goodness). The...service was attentive, knowledgeable and friendly. Will was great at explaining the menu and guiding us on what to order. We had the Papadum - crispy and delicious and served with 4 sauces which were also accompaniments to the other dishes. The entrees we ordered came with rice and salad. The salad was fresh and the perfect size. We ordered Mutter Paneer Tikka Marsala and Seekh Kabob. The portions were a good size, so don't over order. The sauce of the Mutter Paneer Tikka Marsala was delicious, but it was mostly sauce and very little paneer. But the sauce was great with the garlic naan we ordered. The presentation of the Kabob was impressive on a hot plate and sizzling and it smelled delicious. I thought the Kabob itself was very dry and did not have the intense smoked flavor that was promised. We ordered both entrees as medium spice but wish we would have ordered spicy. I didn't get any heat at all in either dish. The highlight of the meal was the homemade mini-donuts soaked in syrup for dessert - fantastic and only two mini-donuts for the perfect after dinner bite. The restaurant is BYOB which is great. The atmosphere is intimate and cozy. Reasonably priced for the amount of food. I might go back and give it another try.More
