This is more than just a Cuban sandwich place -- not that there's anything wrong with Cuban sandwich places, I love them. This is a great dinner place. The Papa Rellena (mashed potato wrapped around ground beef then deep fried) was yummy and a new treat for us. Loved the oxtail entrée. I haven't had oxtail since I was a... More

For a date night, my husband wanted to bring me here, as he had been here with some friends previously. It was great!. Cozy but an energetic vibe. The service was excellent. We ordered the stuffed shrimp for an appetizer, which was amazing - pork cheese seafood!!! - and my entree was the strip steak, so delicious, and my husband... More

The skirt steak, plantains and black beans are something my husband grew up eating, and now that we moved to the suburbs we come allll the way back to Chicago just to satiate our craving. The plantains are crispy on the outside, flavorful and soft on the inside. I do not have a picture to share of the oxtails with... More

On a business trip from DC yelp guided me to 5 star Cuban restaurant and rum bar. Sipped a guava mojito in this Havana Hip Rum bar. The beef and chicken empanadas were delicious especially with their specialty selection of sauces. Upon my return, which will be very soon I will make sure to order the oxtail. ASK for Jana... More

Stopped in because of the close proximity to our bed and breakfast. Nice decor, place was somewhat empty when we arrived around 6. Did not have reservations, but they were able to seat us. The place started filling up within the hour. We were seated in the back dining room by the bar. Seemed to be that the bar area... More

My wife is half Cuban and had never had very much Cuban food. This was perfect! The food was to die for. Their 'Taste of Cuba' appetizer is a must, as is there Cuban sandwich. Service was a bit slow but you really feel like you're sitting in a Cuban kitchen. Also, the waitstaff were fantastic. Over all super authentic... More

I went to this restaurant during my visit to Chicago. Was visiting a guy I'm dating and he wanted me to choose where we'll eat. It was a good chose. What attracted me was the vast rum varieties . We sat outside and the food was delicious. Wish I took photos but well maybe next time!

We vacationed in Chicago this summer and Paladar was the best food we had all week. We tried the famous pizza and the famous steaks, but none of it was as good as the meal we had here.

Paladar Cuban Restaurant is a totally new concept in Cuban dining. Although private restaurants were forbidden by law in Cuba, paladares were sanctioned by the Cuban government in 1990 and began to spring up across the island in homes in response to the growing scarcity of food. Cubans began to refer to their own home-grown Cuban restaurants as paladares.

Rum Bar
"Over 30 premium and sipping rums"

The Rum Bar features a 12' ceiling of re-purposed wood scrapes , many from my parent's original restaurant which was located in the space for 42 years. This "using whatever you have available" practice is very common in Cuba. The first thing our friends usually notice in our new Rum Bar space is the large deconstructed wall revealing exposed brick and a 'Havana Club' advertisement, "el Ron de Cuba" (The rum of Cuba).
