I have been going to Union Sushi for over 5 years, it's always been a favorite for date nights, gathering with friends and I even took a couple of my clients for dinner there. After my last visit (Aug 30), it is safe to say,...that I will not be returning. I am not sure what happened to friendly service, cool ambiance, but most sadly, the quality, presentation and price of food. Simple rolls, like spicy tuna, for over $15! These used to be priced at under $10, on top of it, they now are at a grocery store level. Prices have jumped 75%-100% since the last time I visited, and it is just not worth it.More

We saw a promotion for Union and needed something to drive to get carry out for a Saturday dinner (to keep our sanity); saw their online reviews so gave them a shot. Food was VERY high quality, imaginative, and fresh. Loved it. Also, their online...ordering and streetside pick up worked very well and safely. Give them a try if you can.More

Union is "cool" when you walk in, but the fun ends there. Portions are as pricey as they are small. Our server answered that if portions were larger, we would not have the opportunity to try more dishes (and we also would not have to...spend as much!). The Mushroom Dumpling was not an auspicious start - a hard-to-define starchy taste overpowering the mushroom. The Mushroom Salad was tasty but gone in two gulps. The baked Squash was tasty and miniscule (squash is really NOT an expensive ingredient. The Black Rice Spicy Shrimp Roll was good, but rather skimpy. The server seemed particularly perturbed that we did not order alcoholic beverages. After spending more than $50 on dinner at Union Sushi, we went to another restaurant to have DINNER.More

I enjoyed the black rice sushi sampler - - very delicious! The Happy Hour provides half price mule drinks with select appetizers. I'll be sure to return next time I am in town.

I like all three restaurants in this group (Union Sushi, Franklin Room, and Madison Bar and Kitchen) - although I don't love sushi, others in the family think Union Sushi's is great. There are a few other veggie choices, but the Mushroom Ramen is a...huge bowl of vegetables and ramen in a delectable soup. I usually ask for the spicy peppers on the side, and I always end up sharing some of this with my husband, no matter how hungry I am. It's just delicious.More

Had the opportunity to have dinner with my son and sushi is one of his favorites. Got there before 630 to take advantage of the specials. Started with the house sake and oysters. They had a citrus, vinegar, spice mix that was outstanding. Vote them...the best oysters ever at this point. Then ordered the black rice sushi special, made up of four different rolls. Great flavor, great with the black rice. Followed up with the Pacific roll and the Union roll and we were stuffed. This is now our favorite sushi for that part of town.More

Ordered a cocktail and the bbq sampler. The sampler included 1 skewer of steak, chicken shrimp and scallops, plus roasted cauliflower and roasted squash. Everything was delicious. When I ordered the sampler, I thought I would have a lot of food but it sounds like...it more food than it is. Restaurant provided a bowl of salted edamame to snack on while ordering and waiting for food. All in all I enjoyed my visit but feel I may have paid a lot for the food I received.More

Union has a lot of buzz and I happened by for their daily happy hour at 5 PM for a quick break. The spicy shrimp roll was a generous log of 8 pieces and amazingly fresh and tasty! Since dinner with friends wasn't until 8...PM, I was tempted by a beef skewer or even their truffled tuna but held off, my loss. A number of drink specials (but no beer) and the Moscow Mule was a welcome refresher on a warm (but not hot) summer day. Had I taken a second course, I might have topped it off with the house sake so I'm already thinking of the next time!More

We were a family of five having dinner. The food was good but too pricy for what you got. My 11 year old son ate lamb for about 14 dollars but was still hungry afterwards so we had to order an extra dish.

Union Sushi + Barbecue Bar was good. We enjoyed a delicious Waygu beef tartare accompanied by fried lotus root chips. The contrast in texture worked very well together. Our soft-shell crab roll was equally tasty, light & cool on a warm summer evening. It was...wrapped in cucumber with no rice in sight, which was very nice (& Keto-friendly, if you're into that). The ribs from the barbecue were good, not great; they were a little dry and had teeny little bones that I found annoying. The wine pour, while not $$, was rather small. The service was friendly but a little disjointed. The server asked if we wanted dessert when we still had an entree course coming. When she brought our roll, she had to return to the kitchen to get the soy sauce & dipping bowls. When ready to leave, we had to catch her eye to ask for our check. Overall the service was ok; could have used a little polish. The restaurant was VERY loud, in part because it is essentially one large room and crowded and, in part, due to the fact that it is located right at the El (Chicago's in-city railway) and that the windows were open, since it was a (rare) lovely evening. Will we return; maybe, maybe not.More
