Great food, wonderful staff, great atmosphere, quick service. My plate was huge! Easily 3 meals. It was pricy, but for 3 meals it wasn’t bad.

Unusual perhaps, but I can only write about the service, not the food or the ambiance which others have complimented highly. In February I ordered a $200 gift card to be sent to me in Michigan, which I wanted to give to someone who lives...in Chicago not far from Viaggio. Weeks went by, and it never arrived. I called, and was assured it had been mailed. More weeks passed. When I called again, David offered to send another, but this time by UPS, taking it to the UPS Store personally and not USPS, trusting I'd destroy a second card, if it ever showed up. Guess what? They both arrived on March 15. Viaggio can't be held responsible for the slow mail, and David is to be thanked for sending a second card no charge. Will look forward to hearing about my gift recipient's experience.More
We had tickets to see a comedian nearby at the City Winery so we made reservations to eat dinner here beforehand. We were sat somewhat close to the front door, so unfortunately the draft from the door when guests walked in every 5 minutes was...unpleasant to the point I had to wear my coat over my shoulders during the entire meal experience. Only just before we left did I finally feel the heat kick on from a vent above us on the ceiling. The tables were also a bit close together, but I guess that's understandable as the place is not very big. It also got a bit loud at times while some men were watching horse racing at the bar and one man decided it was acceptable to yell out loud at various times. Their website advertises they serve traditional Italian cuisine, to which we mostly agree. We ordered fried calamari as an appetizer, which was served with something that tasted like shrimp cocktail sauce or spicy ketchup (which normally goes with shrimp) rather than the typical basic marinara sauce we're used to. I ordered the filet mignon with garlic mashed potatoes served in a red wine reduction, which was pretty good. My husband ordered the veal marsala, which was delicious. We each ordered a dessert too; me the double chocolate gelato which just tasted like plain chocolate ice cream but was yummy and him the cannolis which he said were the best he's had in years. The waitstaff was outstanding and very efficient, always there to check on drink refills, take plates away, or ask if we wanted anything else.More
We were in Chicago for a Blackhawks game. Viaggio was recommended so we decided to give it a try. Started with meatballs for an appetizer and they were excellent. My wife had the seabass special and I had the homemade cavatelli. The waitress suggested I...add crumbled sausage. A fantastic choice. The portions were large, the service was very good.More
Great table, great service, and the food was just outstanding!! Serving sizes are large, so be sure to come hungry. This is Italian food at its finest!
This was our first visit. The food and service was outstanding. From cocktails and wine to dinner and dessert we were so happy. We started with wine and cocktails. Then moved to appetizers of bruschetta and mozzarella marinara. Generous portions and delicious. Entrees included chicken...parm with creamy tortellini. The tortellini were soft pillows of pasta that melted in your mouth. Another was lobster ravioli. These extra large ravioli were stuffed with yummy lobster and cradled in delicious cream sauce. The veal Marsala, also a generous portion, made my husband happy. The veal was tender and succulent smothered in a flavorful Marsala wine sauce. Finally the rigatoni aka vodka sauce was so rich and beautiful. Perfectly done. Desserts ordered included coconut cake, my husbands favorite. And it was rich and moist. The tiramisu was perfectly balanced with cream, custard, lady fingers and a coffee liquor. Last but not least was Italian ice cream rolled into a ball and covered in a shell of decadent chocolate. Cappuccino capped off this satisfying and fun dinner. We have a new favorite Italian restaurant in Chicago!More
As Chicago has relaxed restrictions during COVID-19 and enabled outdoor dining, we visited Viaggio for dinner on a weeknight. They did a lovely job! We left commenting that the Viaggio experience had been far better than a well-known Chicago establishment we'd visited the week prior....Tables were well-spaced down Madison St.; we were not close to other guests. All staff were in masks consistently. Tables were cleared and linens replaced in-between each guest. I felt reassured they were following all guidelines. It was very nice to see white tableclothes, etc. used for outdoor dining; this added a touch of class not seen at other establishments offering outdoor dining. Our serve was also up to the same standard Viaggio offered previously; our server was attentive throughout the meal. Our food was excellent! Chicken Milanese was perfectly thin, with crispy breading and a wonderful arugula salad. And the pasta was delicious--just the right firmness, with a tomato sauce that had a bright, fresh flavor. A really nice meal; we will definitely return!More
Service was excellent. I had one of the pasta specials and it was prepared very well. Also, they made a good wine recommendation.
Just when you think you've dined at every outstanding Italian restaurant in Chicago, you discover another one...and another one...and another one. On the way to visiting my brother the other day, my wife and I drove past Viaggio. I checked it out on the Internet....It looked appealing and inviting. So we made dinner reservations. Lucky us. Located at 1330 West Madison Street, near the United Center, in the West Loop/Randolph Street Market neighborhood, east of Ogden Avenue, it is open from 11 to 10 Monday through Thursday, 11 to 11 on Friday, 4 to 11 on Saturday and 4 to 8 on Sunday. Check it out. You won't be disappointed. It is a relaxed, stylish restaurant and bar featuring traditional Italian-American cuisine, including lots of veal dishes, in a white tablecloth setting with a classy vibe. Executive chef Nicolas Biscaglia, a native of suburban Elmwood Park, a veteran from Carmine's on Rush, has put together a menu of Italian recipes that my half-Italian wife thinks her grandmother must have conceived. For starters, we had fresh tomato bruschetta on grilled garlic crostini and Caesar salad with garlic croutons, parmesan cheese and anchovies with chicken. If you like veal, this is the place. We have veal nearly every Sunday at home. Viaggio's veal dishes are superb. My wife had veal scallopini with onion, mushrooms, white wine and marinara served over linguine, garlic mashed potatoes and sauteed spinach. I had veal parmesan with fresh mozzarella and tomato basil sauce served with tortellini alfredo, vesuvio potatoes and sauteed wild mushrooms. For dessert, what else? Tiramisu is Italian for delicious. Viaggio is Italian for high quality.More
David, Gualberto and the team here gave us a very good service and made all of our hard requests with a big smile(: Really recommend the meat here so high quality!
Excellent service and food. Decorated for the holidays which added to the already nice atmosphere. I had the filet mignon and mashed potatoes. Husband had the bolognese. My friend ate an entire plate of bruschetta herself; I’m gluten free, but if I could, I would’ve...joined her it looked delicious!!More
Great place. I ate at the bar and they have homemade croutons and one made cavatelli as well! The salad and steak was great and chicken Parmesan pls amazing bread!!!!! Don’t forget the Fettuccine Alfredo!
I believe this restaurant has good food. However the dishes the wife and I had were mediocre at best.We both ordered their specials: She had a short rib ravioli dish and I has a sausage dish (dont remember the name). Both dishes were ok but...would not drive us to return to the restaurant. Perhaps if we had other dishes it would have made the difference for us. Interesting enough it was an early meal (5:30pm) and the wife ordered a Tiramisu. The waiter indicated they were out of it. Although it was disappointing that never happened before since Tiramisu is such a staple Italian dessert.More
I've made it to my latter years without ever having Chicago deep dish pizza. I was in Chicago for a conference and the locals were proud of Viaggo and brought a group here. I was disappointed. It tasted like good pizza but the crust was...almost cookie-like. I'll stay with my crispy New York pizza, thank you. Place was noisy.More
Shared a meatball salad as an appetizer. Great flavor on the meatballs. Numerous in our party were very happy with all the pasta dishes. Drinks were good with a very nice poor. Wait staff was friendly and attentive. Great place for Italian!
