Ok, this place is eye candy for sure. It looks like a little place on the Left Bank. The var is beautiful too. The food is good, not GREAT. But very good..you will get a great meal here. I think the next time I go, it would be for a nice bottle of Champagne or an Aperol Spritz int he afternoon. It is a lovely place and the chef actually comes out of the kitchen to be sure you are enjoying your meal. Covid protocol is great!

Eight of us booked the Savarin Room so we could enjoy our company together without bothering other diners in the main room. We recommend this highly. We ordered off the regular menu, though the restaurant will prepare a special menu if you prefer. We shared a variety of dishes and we all loved the food and drinks. The service was friendly and near perfection. We will certainly return for our next catch-up dinner.

I went with work friends to this lovely restaurant and went back two days later with my husband. What was formerly Crofton on Wells has been transformed by executive chef Didier Durand (formerly of Cyrano’s Bistro on Wells) - lovingly transformed into a lovely dining experience. Chef Durand has put together a tasty menu with more items to select when I return! Escargot is amazing, as is the black truffle risotto. Lamb is a favorite and I can’t wait to go back and sample SO many other items. This is a nice place to eat at the bar (bartender and expert wine and spirits aficionado David) will guide you through the exact bd rage to pair with your meal. GO - and enjoy this great restaurant.

AMAZING DINNER! The restaurant is beautiful. We were greeted by Phillipe, who knew we were celebrating a birthday. He was knowledgeable, making recommendations on food and wine. The food was fabulous. Between the two of us, we enjoyed......Amuse Bouche, Lobster Bisque, Mushroom Soup, Escargot, Pommes Frittes, Penne con Funghi (with extra Shaved Black Truffles, a special Lobster & Crab Ravioli and a wonderful bottle of wine. For birthday dessert we had Opera Cake (with a candle) and a delicious Tawny Port. This is a special dinner and truly worth every penny!! We will be back next time we travel to Chicago!!!

Elegant interior, authentic French food: mushroom soup, duck, and crème brule. Of course, great cocktails and wine. French music was soft so one could carry on a conversation. Located in Chicago’s Near North neighborhood. Yum! Friendly staff, too!

Dined with a foodie friend on the recommendation of another friend. Post birthday celebration, so not in a hurry, but service was slow, slowing as the meal went on. In spite that, the staff were friendly and made it right at the end of the meal. The food was excellent and the wine list has some interesting options. Overall vibe was upper east side new york and mostly not too loud for conversation (a nice change from too many places these days). I'll try this again.

A wonderful restaurant in all respects -- food, atmosphere, service. The place is gorgeous, with well-spaced tables that are beautifully set, and romantic lighting. It was especially delightful to be able to converse without shouting, or struggling to hear your companions. The food was top-notch. I had lamb and my husband had the duck and both dishes were perfectly prepared and well-presented. Our waiter was excellent, giving us plenty of time to relax with drinks and pacing the delivery of food and wine perfectly. Definitely our favorite meal over a 5-day trip to Chicago.

This is a classic French bistro. Food was perfectly cooked. My wife had the duck which was superb. Good wine selection. Wait staff was attentive. Can not wait to return.

The food here is truly amazing - we loved it and it is 5 star quality, but it was in the service area that I had to drop them down a star for my overall review. The entrees came while we were still eating our salad. We were then asked if we wanted them to go back. Why was it being delivered then and why were we asked if we wanted to fix it? We did: we moved some plates so that the entrees could be set down and we could finish the salad course. We got an apology and told our wine would be right over. It wasn’t! We got it eventually and we’re even given an extra glass before we ordered a dessert. This was to be a happy festive meal to celebrate my wife’s birthday and the service just didn’t live up to both the food and the beautiful venue. The maitre ‘d did say Happy Birthday on our arrival. My fault - I expected something more. Fortunately the food, as I said at the outset, was great: Foie Gras, Truffle Burrata, Rack of Lamb, Steak-Frites, Macrons, Wine, and Martinis certainly met our expectations. For the food - I suggest you give it a try. Perhaps our service issue was just an anomaly. I hope it was. The kitchen deserve better as do the patrons.

Absolutely incredibly from the service to the food and definitely the atmosphere! After a long week and a day of travel, the Champagne Cave was the perfect spot for sips and nibbles. Our hostess Natalie made us instantly feel like treasured regulars and her recommendations were spot on. The escargot and shrimp jovan are delicious especially with the hot fresh bread with herb butter. Simply delightful. We will definitely be back.

I dined here last week and have been telling people about my experience ever since. We had gone to Marchesa a couple of years ago but now heard that Chef Durand, formerly of Cyrano's was in the kitchen. The food was wonderful! We started out with a truly excellent octopus, the tentacle was very large but had a terrific seasoning on it and was perfectly cooked. We next had the Ahi Tuna, once again, like it should be - just seared on the outside. However, the tuna was placed with the most wonderful mushroom medley I have had in a long time accompanied by potatoes and peppers. It was sublime!! The service is the on the spot, extremely professional and very friendly. The wine list has some very interesting bottles not found too often in other restaurants. I highly recommend Marchesa when looking for a sophisticated yet very French restaurant in Chicago.

Dined here with friends. The premises are lovely and the food and service (Daniel) were very good. The menu is French, but not overly so. Cocktails here, unlike many new restaurants, do not stinge on alcohol. Wine by the glass offerings were good pours and nice choices. Prices, for the high quality, seemed quite fair. This is definitely a place to which we will return,

Dined here this summer after reading glowing reviews on Open Table. We had a table for four of us, and were seated right away, noting a few empty tables around us. The restaurant is beautiful, the artwork and ambiance are lovely. We were excited about our evening. However, as soon as our absent-minded waiter arrived, the magic of the evening dwindled. He was not attentive, we had to beg him to take our orders. The cocktails we ordered tasted like rubbing alcohol. The waiter managed to bring us bread while we waited on our appetisers, which took what seemed like ages to arrive. Escargot - overcooked and under seasoned. Meanwhile, a woman at the table next to us sent back her entree and mentioned it was "ice cold." The table had been waiting for their entree since before we had been seated. Now it was our turn to wait decades for our entree to arrive. While waiting, we flagged down the maitre d to bring us more bread because our waiter was never in sight. Once the entrees arrived, I noticed how undelightful my steak was and how embarrassed I was that I had been the one to suggest this restaurant for our girls-night-out evening. Will not return. Don't trust the "glowing" reviews on OpenTable because I am certain we were not the only ones with horrible experiences at this restaurant that evening.

Dear Laney713: First of all, please accept our sincere apologies for the evening you describe. When we opened Marchesa it was to showcase delicious food & wine in a beautiful setting with warm & welcoming service. To the extent we failed to convey these core values to you and your friends, we are deeply sorry. We have taken your comments to heart and have spoken with our team members to make sure no other guest has to wait ages for their dinner. Chef Didier apologizes as well, for the missteps. He has taken action to make sure his dishes are delivered hot, as they should be. We have also spoken to the service staff to make sure they know how important it is to be attentive to our guests. We meet daily to affirm these important steps and feel terrible that you didn't experience the evening that you hoped for, the evening that we strive to give each and every guest we entertain. We appreciate you taking the time to let us know how disappointed you were and we apologize to your companions as well. We would like to offer you dinner on the house, should you wish to give us another chance. Please reach our to us if you would like to accept this offer. We'd like another chance to show you what a night at Marchesa is all about. Thank you.

The ambience and elegance in the decor makes one feel like a princess in a fairy tale. The food was delicious and the French chef introduced himself. The attention to fine detail from the staff and waiters is precise and on point. Our duck and steak were delicious. What an experience.

Had my nieces wedding reception here. The upstairs room is tasteful Victorian decor. The staff are extremely attentive and polite. The food was amazing. Will be back to try the restaurant very soon. Make sure you put this venue on your a list.
