One of our family members lives in Chicago and picked this place for all of us. What a great choice! It's a very casual place and you sit at primarily long tables. There are smaller tables if you'd rather. Very unique menu items, primarily small plates for sharing - they're huge and plentiful. Since it was 6 people, we tried... More

Came here with my wife for a late Friday dinner. Place was LOUD, so we could barely speak to each other. And while I understood it was communal dining, I didn't understand the extreme proximity to others (elbows basically touching). Service was slow and pacing was just off, though maybe that is a "feature" and not a "bug" given the... More

Long communal tables and 'pens' for smaller groups. Charcuterie plate makes a good starter and the pork ribs are straight from heaven.

I love restaurants that seat you at the exact time of your reservation! Four of us ordered 6 dishes to be shared and they were all outstanding. Definitely a place to order pork and seafood dishes. We began with an amazing broccolini item and a wonderful Brussel sprouts side dish. We ordered a tasting of all 3 hams and half... More

Didn't care for it at all. It was too noisy and too crowded for me. It was also a real yuppie crowd. Didn't even bother to stay.

Delicious brunch, wait is long even with reservations but well worth it. Favorites: pork shoulder, French toast with raspberry compote, sausage and bacon pancakes. Loud, bright open space, lovely for a family brunch!

A group of friends ate at Publican for my wife's birthday. We had recently found out she was pregnant and they altered the tasting menu for us so she could enjoy every course. We loved everything they served, and they paired beers with each course for us. There was SO MUCH FOOD. Everything was great. Dessert was crazy, including an... More

Disappointing. On the good side, the salads/first courses were very fresh and tasty, and we liked the privacy of our dining "stall". The reasons we won't come back: The main courses were too salty; the courses were slammed at us--no sense of pacing; our waiter was brusque; the restaurant was uncomfortably loud. But what most ticked me off was that... More

We came to the city to visit to visit our son. He picked The Publican for dinner on Friday night. One word, WOW! Farm to table, local sourced. Small plates designed to be shared. Not cheap, but worth every cent. The chicken was the best I've ever had anywhere. Be sure to make a reservation.

The concept of farm direct to table isn't new, Zingerman in Ann Arbor has been at it for a long time. I feel Publican food quality and taste is good but wasn't amaze or think they are any fresher than most other restaurants. I have eaten there few times, each time I come away not being impress and think I... More
