Absolutely loved my experience here. I came for the truffle pasta (pecorini al tartufo nero) made in the table side giant wheel of parmesan after seeing it on social media, and it did not disappoint. It was quite literally the best pasta I've ever had--...so rich and delicious and such a fun preparation process. The service was wonderful, and the atmosphere was great. We also ordered dessert, and it was delicious! I will most definitely go back next time I'm in Chicago.More

This is our “go-to’ Italian restaurant when we commute in from the burbs, which is often. Since we discovered the restaurant a few years ago, we’ve been here easily over 20 times. There’s a reason we return. The food is wonderful, service is great, and...the ambiance is a bit above the norm, but cozy and not pretentious. You feel comfortable at this restaurant, either as a couple or with a group spanning various generations. It’s location is a few steps west of Michigan on Chestnut. So it is in a great location, which is a plus. Our favorite entrees are the Spaghetti Bolognese Emilia, Cacio e Pepe, and, for a great show and nice meal, the Pecorini Al Tartufo Nero served in a giant cheese wheel at your table. We also love the bruschetta here.More

We were staying at the Whitehall and attending a concert at Fourth Presbyterian with a bit of shopping on N. Michigan Ave. Just a quick afternoon, evening, and overnight. This restaurant was very handy, easily accessible, and turned out to be good food with excellent...friendly service.More

Love being able to eat out comfortably once again. Not our first time here, but the first time in well over a year. Fortunately the food is as good as ever! Always get a pasta item, because theirs is the best. We also recommend the...Calamari Fritti, & Seared Foie Gras, as well as a great wine selection and delightful Gin Martinis. A really fine restaurant that we highly recommend. Check it out.More

This is my 2nd visit to Osteria Del Pastaio. The food is wonderful, attractively presented and worthy of slow eating. I had the Gazpacho and enjoyed the unfolding of some spiciness. The spaghetti and meatballs was generous and I appreciated the fresh pasta. I'll go...back for a 3rd time soon.More

The food was amazing. The air conditioning apparently wasn’t working and it was very warm in the restaurant. All was delicious until the ladies needed to use the rest room which was deplorable. Extremely filthy!

The Italian place I wanted to dine at did not have any reservations available so I was able to reserve a table for two outside here. We ordered a Calamari and Shrimp appetizer and a Long Island iced tea for each of us which was...good. It was a bit chilly outside but they had patio heaters so it wasn’t too bad except when a strong wind blew through. It’s the Windy City so plan accordingly if you decide to eat outside. Both of us decided to order the same entree which was Lobster Risotto and it was really good. The person waiting on us was Jorge and he was great, no issues at all. I don’t have any complaints about this restaurant, I’m glad we decided to try it after our first choice was not available. I would dine here again with no second thoughts, the food was really good. I recommend it. Just for reference, the bill was $154 before tip and I attached a picture of it.More

First, I understand that restaurants are hurting in the pandemic/post-pandemic economy. But...if you're going to attract and keep customers, you have to be at the top of your game. We went here because my boyfriend had eaten there when he stayed at the Tremont Hotel...across the street--before the pandemic. Pro: The chianti was excellent. Con: Everything else. No QR code menu--it was the plastic-covered type of "yesteryear." Our server was not well-groomed. She wanted our drink orders before we'd finished sitting down. The "homemade" focaccia was lackluster--and I've had better tampenade from Trader Joe's. Then came our dinners...I was thrilled to see Osso bucco ($32) on the menu--I always order it when I can. It was practically inedible, full of fat and gristle . There is no way it was veal. More like a beef soup bone. I told the server, when she eventually came by to check on us--no comment. My boyfriend was excited to get pasta carbonara ($28)--except there was not a hint of cream. It was more like pasta with olive oil and pancetta. They did credit us for one glass of wine. Restaurants are smart to offer a limited menu--and make sure every item is stellar. Staff should be top-notch. Create an atmosphere that makes people want to return. Chicago is a foodie city. Don't waste your time or money here.More

On New Year's Eve, we ordered take out from Osteria del Pastaio. A man named Christiane took our phone order at 4pm for 7pm pick up. The receipt says he charged our credit card at 4:04 pm for the full order. We wanted to pick...up the order without coming into contact with staff due to Covid. When taking our phone order, Christiane asked me if I would leave a tip. We try and support local restaurants, but I politely said no tip please. Christiane became angry, arguing to leave a tip for take out/pick up. Ten minutes before my husband picked up the order, I called ahead to confirm the order. An Irene answered and said there was no order placed. This despite the receipt confirming our cc was charged at 4:04 pm. She said she would ready the order. My husband arrived at 7pm and they said there was no order placed, made my husband wait outside in the cold for 15 minutes while they "prepared our order", then made my husband come inside, call me using their phone to see what happened. Christiane then took the phone from my husband and said to me, "You're the person that left no tip for take out, so we don't have your order." Christiane asked me who I spoke with to place the order. I reminded him it was he who took our order. Christiane then became extremely unprofessional, belligerent, angry, carrying on about no tip before hanging up on me. It is 7:30 pm on NYE. He finally said he would ready our order. We asked to speak to the manager/owner. Neither Christiane or Irene would put us in touch, but said she was there. Upon returning home, the order was messed up/wrong. We got sick from the food. We feel their intent was to make us squirm/give us a really hard time since they knew it was the eleventh hour on NYE. Since they shielded the owner, we truly hope she reads this and does the right thing. All this to simply try to support our local business. Christiane and Irene: Please! No customer deserves to be treated/harassed in this manner! There's too much competition from which to choose! Not good for your brand! We also work hard for our living and it is the customer's decision whether to tip or not for take out!More

We started our dinner with the bread/tapenade AND it was amazing.... proportion of olives, garlic & OO was perfecto! We continued to enjoy the wild mushrooms and Caprese salad. Our party had the eggplant Parmesan, bolognese over homemade pappardelle and vodka penne. Thankful for the...short walk back to the hotel and room in the fridge for the leftovers. Highly recommend this place for ambiance, service and food. Can’t wait until our next visit!More

My family stopped in for lunch in a cold, rainy day in November. We were met by a lovely host who quickly seated us and a friendly server who brought menus and drink offerings. We all opted for homemade pasta dishes and each one was...delicious. Food was fresh, fairly quick and quite reasonably priced. Highly recommend.More

I don't believe so. Their menu called out vegetarian & vegan. Some of their appetizers appeared to not be made with any carbs, but as far as being certified gluten free I don't believe so. I would suggest you call them to... More
