First, I understand that restaurants are hurting in the pandemic/post-pandemic economy. But...if you're going to attract and keep customers, you have to be at the top of your game. We went here because my boyfriend had eaten there when he stayed at the Tremont Hotel...across the street--before the pandemic. Pro: The chianti was excellent. Con: Everything else. No QR code menu--it was the plastic-covered type of "yesteryear." Our server was not well-groomed. She wanted our drink orders before we'd finished sitting down. The "homemade" focaccia was lackluster--and I've had better tampenade from Trader Joe's. Then came our dinners...I was thrilled to see Osso bucco ($32) on the menu--I always order it when I can. It was practically inedible, full of fat and gristle . There is no way it was veal. More like a beef soup bone. I told the server, when she eventually came by to check on us--no comment. My boyfriend was excited to get pasta carbonara ($28)--except there was not a hint of cream. It was more like pasta with olive oil and pancetta. They did credit us for one glass of wine. Restaurants are smart to offer a limited menu--and make sure every item is stellar. Staff should be top-notch. Create an atmosphere that makes people want to return. Chicago is a foodie city. Don't waste your time or money here.More

On New Year's Eve, we ordered take out from Osteria del Pastaio. A man named Christiane took our phone order at 4pm for 7pm pick up. The receipt says he charged our credit card at 4:04 pm for the full order. We wanted to pick...up the order without coming into contact with staff due to Covid. When taking our phone order, Christiane asked me if I would leave a tip. We try and support local restaurants, but I politely said no tip please. Christiane became angry, arguing to leave a tip for take out/pick up. Ten minutes before my husband picked up the order, I called ahead to confirm the order. An Irene answered and said there was no order placed. This despite the receipt confirming our cc was charged at 4:04 pm. She said she would ready the order. My husband arrived at 7pm and they said there was no order placed, made my husband wait outside in the cold for 15 minutes while they "prepared our order", then made my husband come inside, call me using their phone to see what happened. Christiane then took the phone from my husband and said to me, "You're the person that left no tip for take out, so we don't have your order." Christiane asked me who I spoke with to place the order. I reminded him it was he who took our order. Christiane then became extremely unprofessional, belligerent, angry, carrying on about no tip before hanging up on me. It is 7:30 pm on NYE. He finally said he would ready our order. We asked to speak to the manager/owner. Neither Christiane or Irene would put us in touch, but said she was there. Upon returning home, the order was messed up/wrong. We got sick from the food. We feel their intent was to make us squirm/give us a really hard time since they knew it was the eleventh hour on NYE. Since they shielded the owner, we truly hope she reads this and does the right thing. All this to simply try to support our local business. Christiane and Irene: Please! No customer deserves to be treated/harassed in this manner! There's too much competition from which to choose! Not good for your brand! We also work hard for our living and it is the customer's decision whether to tip or not for take out!More

Oh my Goodness...run don’t walk to this special place!! I was in Chicago for a girls get-away with my daughter and my mother-law and we found ourselves at this wonderful restaurant. From the moment we made reservations we were family!! Every detail from the host...to the server was above and beyond. I can’t say enough about the service, hospitality, and attention to detail this amazing restaurant has to offer. George was our server—5 stars all the way!! We will return and bring everyone we know! Thank you for making our trip so special ❤️More

I visited with a colleague as I was staying just across the road. Very good food and the service was also good. It is a fairly small restaurant with a great atmosphere. Would recommend

We started our dinner with the bread/tapenade AND it was amazing.... proportion of olives, garlic & OO was perfecto! We continued to enjoy the wild mushrooms and Caprese salad. Our party had the eggplant Parmesan, bolognese over homemade pappardelle and vodka penne. Thankful for the...short walk back to the hotel and room in the fridge for the leftovers. Highly recommend this place for ambiance, service and food. Can’t wait until our next visit!More

My family stopped in for lunch in a cold, rainy day in November. We were met by a lovely host who quickly seated us and a friendly server who brought menus and drink offerings. We all opted for homemade pasta dishes and each one was...delicious. Food was fresh, fairly quick and quite reasonably priced. Highly recommend.More

Loved our lunch. Lunch portions were generous and the bolognese sauce was excellent. Our dessert was perfect and really hit the spot.

We really enjoyed our dinner here last night. This very much feels like a neighborhood Trattoria, it felt small, personable, and quality. Our waiter was Jorge Lopez who took very good care of us during our visit. He was very knowledgeable about all the dishes,...made excellent recommendations for food and wine, and made us laugh and ponder about some of his comments and wisdom. It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience! We particularly loved the eggplant Parmesan which was truly the best one we’ve ever had anywhere, since they bake the dish rather than fried which, makes it non-greasy and you can truly taste the flavors of the food and not the left-over flavors left in the oil used from frying other dishes (like seafood!). Since they make their own pasta daily, I decided to try the pasta of the day with a carbonara sauce which was also excellent and very well prepared. The texture of the pasta was truly enhanced by the sauce! The plates were plentiful and we even had leftovers to take home. I also enjoyed the fact that they have the option of their wine of the month, which gives a good quality, but yet budget option to get a bottle of wine with your meal. Overall we had an excellent experience, and this has now become our new favorite Italian restaurant in Chicago. We loved it so much, that we made reservations for a New Year’s eve dinner at Osteria del Pastaio.More

Nice setting, food was average, service was decent. Fried calamari had an interesting spicy flavoring. Pasta's were ok.

I don't believe so. Their menu called out vegetarian & vegan. Some of their appetizers appeared to not be made with any carbs, but as far as being certified gluten free I don't believe so. I would suggest you call them to... More
