The pandemic has put a stress on everyone, including people who operate restaurants and people who want to eat at restaurants. Dine-in, takeout or delivery? At Cafe Marie Jeanne in Humboldt Park, customer options are call-in, order online, delivery or walkup orders. How do you...order carryout for a five-course meal? The whole procedure isn't normal, of course, but life as we know it today isn't normal, either. So it is what it is. And Cafe Marie Jeanne seems to go with the flow. Located at 1001 North California Avenue, at Augusta, this all-day French cafe is a French version of an American diner with a high ceiling, tin roof, small wooden tables, friendly down-home service and a menu to please all appetites. Open from 10 to 5 on Thursday, Friday and Saturday and from 10 to 3 on Sunday, Cafe Marie Jeanne offers an all-day breakfast that starts with Lino's delicious donuts with such flavors as apple, pear, cherry and chocolate. Then indulge in a cinnamon roll or apple crostata. And a breakfast sandwich on an English muffin with a scrambled egg, cheese and sausage. For closers, try griddle cakes with maple poached apples and sausage and a buttermilk biscuit with sausage and country gravy. It's light and healthy. And when you're finished, you don't feel as though you're dragging an anchor behind you.More

WE rented an AIRBB near the cafe. We were looking for a place for breakfast and found the cafe. Each and every dish was far better than we could have ever anticipated. Cinnamon roll, steak tartare, sweetbreads, salmon omelet, melted leeks, cheese biscuit, habanero bacon...biscuit, lamb sausage, pork and cheese sausage, bacon, warm burrata with plum mostardo, foie gras, breakfast sandwiches, marinated tomatoes and , of course some wine. WE did not eat the entire menu but would wish we could. EVERYTHING is made in house. One regret--We live 3 hours away.More

We were exploring Humboldt Park with some neighbors and headed here for dinner, wanting to support and try a neighborhood establishment with an appealing menu. Disappointing experience. Service was slow and a bit clueless. Wines were disappointing for a French establishment. I was really excited...for the pickled and smoked fishes, since I love that kind of food; the plate we ended up ordering was not very good. The texture and flavors were muddled and not distinct, and the presentation was unappealing. French fries were limp and cold. Other dishes were equally disappointing. Not planning to return.More

Stopped by for breakfast on Saturday morning. Lots of staff with few diners - yet service was slow. Ordered bottomless cup of coffee, cinnamon roll, and a side of bacon. Wife ordered the Chai Latte. Coffee was horrible (very acidic and burnt) so I limited...the bottomless cup to just one. The cinnamon roll was dry as a brick - no amount of cream cheese topping was gonna help make it go down. The bacon came luke warm, dark and bone dry, and seemed to have been reheated. It shattered into a dozen pieces when I put my fork into it.More

Really fun place..eclectic,hip,delicious food. Went crazy about caviar toast, doughnuts ( spiced apple & summer squash with candied pepitas-yum!) Omelettes were amazing , decent size not gigantic. Cocktails awesome. If I lived here it would be a weekly visit!

I was there the past mont for a fast breakfast. I eat a Monte Carlo (I think; don't remember so much how it's called) and it was reallyyyyy good. I'm looking for a plate like this in my country and never found something alike. Highly...recommend! The service was excellent and fast, the table was set and have refill for coffee and water. I don't give 5 stars because there's just a few options; the menu is short and doesn't vary.More

French food in a cheap diner atmosphere where decidedly unenthused staff knock back shots with friends at the bar. The prices are high for the lack of ambiance and hospitality. The veggie galette was a touch too salty, but still delicious, the romaine hearts/bottarga almost...inedibly over-salted.More

I've been here numerous times for brunch and lunch. The food is pricey. The last time I had the smoked chicken salad sandwich, it was served on a baguette, chewy with not a lot of chicken, 2.00 for a bag of chips. I have had...slow service at times and the food although interesting is just ok for me. Another time the brisket was salty. It's fine, I've just had better meals for the priceMore

Went for Sunday dinner and felt like it was a night they should have been closed. Service was inattentive at best, wait person was nonchalant about offerings and attentiveness. Food was equally unremarkable, frites were soggy and not cooked through, rabbit was dry an over...cooked and duck dinner rivaled poutine in its lack of presentation. Somebody please train staff when to clear plates. Very disappointed, would not go back.More
