After moving away from Chicago many years ago, I was back and decided to have lunch at Berghoffs which used to be an attractive restaurant with wonderful German and other “comfort type” food. The Wiener Schnitzel and Spätzle ($21) were tasteless. The atmosphere was less...More

This was one of the restaurants I found offering GF options, close to the CIBC Theater, where we went to see Hamilton. There were a lot of GF options on the menu. I chose the "Sauerbraten" (marinated roasted sirloin of beef, sweet and sour gravy,...More

While visiting Chicago with some friends, we made reservations for Friday evening dinner at The Berghoff. Despite an initial rocky start where it seemed like our table was not clearly assigned a waiter, that was remedied, and we ultimately had a great time. As someone...More

We were there for a catered reception which served German classics like mini brats, chicken schnitzel, mushroom strudel. All very yummy. Looked like a hopping place - bar had live music.

It used to be great, but those days are long gone. It used to be a true German Restaurant but those days are long gone. It used to have waiter like you’d find in Germany or Austria masters of their art but those days are...More

We went at the recommendation of local friends, and we’re so glad we did! We went for lunch and started with the Reuben and the Sauerbraten. We changed up the sides so we could try the potato pancakes and German potato salad. We washed it...More

Enjoyed the dinner there. Definitely a place to go to and enjoy German food. As a German it is sometimes challenging to find a good German restaurant in the USA. This is a good option when in Chicago. Not overpriced and the Jägerschnitzel was excellent....More

Upon recommendation of a local, we had a late lunch at The Berghoff. The interior is old world and very nice. I had the wild game sausage plate and my spouse had a pork schnitzel. Both dishes were average. The spaetzel was dry and the...More

Not at all. We walked in wearing tourist uniform (shorts, t-shirt, and bag pack) and we didn't feel out of place at all.

I would call the berghoff to be sure but my guess is you could go & put your name on a list. When we were there, the restaurant was far from full so we were seated immediately but that was a weekday.

Description
The Berghoff Restaurant is a Chicago landmark, serving German-style cuisine and culture since 1898. One of the oldest family-run businesses in the nation, it is now run by fourth generation, Pete Berghoff. At today’s Berghoff, menus have evolved to add newer, lighter and more contemporary dishes, but it’s still the same old Berghoff, down to the famous root beer. Open for lunch and dinner, the Berghoff’s wide variety of appetizers, salads, sandwiches, and entrées is sure to satisfy everyone in your party. With fresh ingredients, seasonal menus and vegetarian & gluten-free dishes, it's “tradition with a twist!” Private Dining provides a truly unique event experience within the setting of the historic Berghoff building. Host your next event in one of our four private rooms. Contact us to start planning today!
