Yes, I now have discovered this place is famous as it was the awarded the first license after prohibition - but I came across it by chance on my first night in Chicago. Loved the ambiance and the food was good too. Helpings generous so a desert just wasn't feasible. Friendly staff too. I had no reservation but was shown... More

Highly recommended Old World European restaurant. The atmosphere is very much like a traditional Bavarian style restaurant and the food is quite unique and original with special dishes like walleye, venison, rabbit, calves liver and other specialities you don't often find.

The Berghoff is a great place for everyone to stop and enjoy a beer and snacks. Dinner is highly recommended by our Chicago friends as well. We ordered a pretzel and fried cheese curds. Goes great with beer. The pretzel was HOT! Fresh out of the oven. Place was loud and fun. German "band" in the corner. Sax and guitar... More

I was in Chicago for my nephew's 10th birthday and our plan was to eat t Berghoff's before going to see a play. We were late getting into town (flight delay and rush hour traffic) but thought we would try Berghoff's and hope they could get us out in time. The restaurant was full but I mentioned to our server... More

For starters we had the cheese curds with the honey mustard sauce and they were amazing! We also ordered a pretzel which came with 3 dipping sauces, also amazing. The restaurant is decorated lovely for Christmas. It was fun eating here with our two kids. My kids had the typical kids meals, macaroni, burgers. My husband had cabbage and sausage... More

This didn't live up to many of the earlier 4/5 star reviews for me. Soup starter was OK, but the main course (Wiener Schnitzel) tasted like it had just been reheated. Potatoes were almost inedible. For the quality it was also overpriced. Wouldn't return or recommend.

Good schnitzel. "Home made root beer" also good. Nice atmosphere. Liked it overall. Black Forest cake amazing. Bad part was that Hamburger was not fully cooked and partner finished meal before it came back. Nice of them to remake but another gesture would have made there visit 5/5.

This is an American idea of a German beer hall. Not authentic German but authentic American German with a century of dilution. This is a great American restaurant that is worth a visit but do not confuse with a German restaurant.

We visited The Berghoff for a late lunch on a cold, rainy, windy day, and we could not have been more pleased with the service and food. The restaurant was nearly full, but we didn't have to wait and were seated immediately. Our server, Esther, was very good and brought us a complimentary basket of bread and butter immediately. For... I go to The Berghoff whenever I'm in Chicago and and I had the pleasure while in town for a wedding recently. There are really very few places like it. Recently renovated, a loooong bar, their own Bier and classic German dishes. It is right for a family dinner, a few beers with the guys, gals or couples. Nothing but... More

The Berghoff Restaurant is a Chicago landmark, serving German-style cuisine and culture since 1898. One of the oldest family-run businesses in the nation, it is now run by fourth generation, Pete Berghoff. At today's Berghoff, menus have evolved to add newer, lighter and more contemporary dishes, but it's still the same old Berghoff, down to the famous root beer. Open for lunch and dinner, the Berghoff's wide variety of appetizers, salads, sandwiches, and entrées is sure to satisfy everyone in your party. With fresh ingredients, seasonal menus and vegetarian & gluten-free dishes, it's "tradition with a twist!" Private Dining provides a truly unique event experience within the setting of the historic Berghoff building. Host your next event in one of our four private rooms.
