Our waiter (didn't catch his name) was obviously a pro, and it appeared the entire was, too. We ate an early lunch before catching the train to O'Hare. You HAVE to get the pretzel! We enjoyed the Wiener Schnitzel. German fried potatoes, cold veggie medley, and creamed spinach, all of which were delicious. I would love to go back, the... More

Very family friendly! The girls got to find a pickle ornament on a Christmas tree and received a free root beer. The highlight of their night. The food is fantastic. It is always hard to decide what to get.

This was a wonderful flashback to my friends last visit to this restaurant - 30 years ago!. This place was packed, I think because "Hamilton" is playing across the street. We waited about 30 minutes. We ordered, just like the past, the pork schnitzel with the accompaniments. It was a great evening, noisy, energetic, and exciting, on a night when... More

Not really a German restaurant--no beef roulade, creamed spinach is minuscule, home made bourbon doesn't exist, and the wonderful old servers are gone.

We went on a Wednesday, just before heading out to see the show Hamilton (which is only about a block away FYI). It was extremely busy. We had made reservations and were quickly seated, but then waited about 30 minutes before a waiter came. I had to get up twice to request a waiter. I had one of the classic... More

We spontaneously came here for lunch on a Saturday after the Christmas holiday. The atmosphere was cozy and it was nicely decorated. My husband and I had started the Whole 30 a few days earlier and we were delighted to see so many gluten free menu items. In addition, our server, Matt was very knowledgeable about the way the food... More

Four of us ate at the Berghoff restaurant on Thursday evening before Christmas. The wait was about 35 minutes and the noise and chatter insider the place was fairly loud. Once seated, the server was humorous and engaging, and helped out dinner selections. The food was very good. I highly recommend the Bavarian Pretzl as an appetizer for all of... More

The Berghoff is a fixture in Chicago. In fact they received the first liquor license in Chicago after the repeal of prohibition. All too often we look to the latest trendy restaurant and forgot the well established places. I am glad I stopped. Great German traditional fare with American standards for those who don't prefer schnitzel. They always have seasonal... More

I visited just before Christmas, they were not taking reservations. The wait was not long, it was snowing but also a Friday night. The restaurant was beautifully decorated. I like German food and it was good. After dinner we sat at the bar and enjoyed a few cocktails. We had just missed the live music. After asking where it was... More

The Berghoff Restaurant is a Chicago landmark, serving German-style cuisine and culture since 1898. One of the oldest family-run businesses in the nation, it is now run by fourth generation, Pete Berghoff. At today's Berghoff, menus have evolved to add newer, lighter and more contemporary dishes, but it's still the same old Berghoff, down to the famous root beer. Open for lunch and dinner, the Berghoff's wide variety of appetizers, salads, sandwiches, and entrées is sure to satisfy everyone in your party. With fresh ingredients, seasonal menus and vegetarian & gluten-free dishes, it's "tradition with a twist!"
