Call me a skeptic, but I wasn't convinced that I'd find great Mexican food in IL. This place is legit and worth the visit! Pro tip - order the watermelon water.

Our family enjoys eating at Maize. The fresh traditional Mexican food is served really fast. Seating is limited to a dozen or so seats. Very popular with the college students. Can't go wrong eating here and will want to come back for more!

Very small place with just a few seats around the counter and outer wall. One of our Hispanic friends is a fantastic cook and this is as close to her homemade as you will find. Not your typical Mexican / Americanized chain restaurant food. Get there early and be prepared to stand in line.

We go to Maize often. During the summer it is great because it is less crowded with UI students. Try their burrito, available with chicken or beef. Also try their volcano. Maize has great and fresh salsa - hot and medium. They serve chips with your meal. Note: Understand that there are only about 15 seats in the entire restaurant.... More

I needed something not salad or pizza and saw a review recommending Maize. It's a shoebox that was packed to the gills when I stepped up. Everyone was smiling and friendly. No wonder, this may be the best cheap eats in town. I had a chicken gordita. A fish taco, chips, salsa, and a side of guacamole. Way more food... More

Super flavorful!!! Great tasting tacos. I highly recommend the chicharron gorditas!! They are very decently priced and probably the best tacos in the area.

We came down from Chicago and wanted to get real Mexican food. After circling the block a couple times for parking we got a seat at the counter and enjoyed the great food and service. We felt like family and will come back for sure!!!

Always great food in a very simple setting. Limited parking and seating but friends say food is just like their Mexican grandmothers. Really fresh really good.Do it!

This is a tiny place on Green Street. Not a fancy place at all. It has a very small eat in area which is often packed with people waiting. The food is out of this world. Delicious and simple Mexican food. The staff is great and will always greet you with a smile on their face. Truly authentic and delicious

This is not a wine and dine spot. This is a place for delicious pure and simple mexican food. Order it ahead, if you are impatient. My favorite item? Fish Tacos! If you are a Taco Bell fan, this place might disappoint you. If you enjoy clean and more authentic, Hola!

Thank Lisa B
