When you think of pizza, there are a lot of 'industrial' franchises out there that push out cookie cutter pizzas with bland sauce and blah toppings. Whether it's Dominos, Pizza Hut, Papa John's or some of the others, the pizza quality is on a par...with what you get in the frozen department at your local grocery store.
Rosati's is a franchise also, but it's far from industrial. Pizza from their places are the kind you find in those little hole in the wall places you love. It's spicy, it's messy, the cheese is gooey, the toppings are fresh. I happen to live in an area with a Rosati's, and we just keep coming back. Whether it's delivery or in house, the quality remains the same. Some of my boys like the traditional thin crust, with its crackly crust and spicy sauce. Others like the double dough, a hand tossed type with a thicker, very chewy crust. Since this is the Chicago area, there's also the Deep Dough (not tried it, I'm not a deep dish fan), and they've added a double decker, which is basically a pizza built like a double cheeseburger, i.e., crust, sauce, toppings, cheese, crust, sauce, toppings, cheese. I actually liked this one quite a bit, but the rest of the family is more conservative.
They also serve and deliver the normal range of food (Wings, Burgers, Pasta), but I'd stick to the pizza, that's where they specialize. The Rosati's came up with a pizza like the small independent places we always loved, wonderfully spiced, heavy, and delicious.More
