Great food, fantastic service. The steaks were wonderful and perfectly cooked. The decor is a must see. It's a local landmark with notable memorabilia throughout the restaurant from Hemmingway's riffle to mounted record breaking chinook. We met the owner who toured us through the restaurant and made us feel like family. Must go!

The Pioneer is known for ribs and other grilled meat. Always crowded, always popular but a little "seedy" by now.

Went for dinner tonight and greeted by a very warm and friendly man JC. Got us a table for five with actual space for 5 people (we have been squeezed into tabletops for four so far on this trip). Food was delicious from the Jim spud (you have to just try it) to the chicken kabob to the steaks and... More

This rustic little restaurant was a great find. Don't expect too have much elbow room in this gem. You are literally elbow to elbow with people next to you. But the food was worth it. The filet I ordered was cooked perfectly and my husbands prime was also excellent. The sides are ok rice and baked potato. And we had... More

The minute we walked into this packed house, we were greeted, Put on the list & had two cocktails in our hands. Amazing place to hang out. Cowboy cut steak to share & a bottle of wine. Doesn't get any better. Only draw back, tables are close & we had the pleasure 🙄 of sitting next to The Loud Talker.... More

We actually walked in the door and were seated immediately! Overall the food was good. One of our Filet Mignon steaks was actually burned and cooked very well done when it was ordered medium. The waitress was very nice and substituted a prime rib for the filet. The prime rib was excellent, I heard another waiter telling a table that... More

This place is one-of-a-kind. Dim lighting, long bar (always packed early), taxidermy on the walls, and - above all - steaks. Go early and be prepared to wait (no reservations). You'll enjoy the vibe in the bar/waiting area as you are served drinks and complimentary chips and salsa. Even though the highlight is red meat, my wife swears by their... More

Why is the Pioneer "THE" local favorite for the past 35 years? Because it's always good and you know what your going to get. We're not talking Morton's, Ruth Chris or The Palm here, we're talking Ketchum, Idaho and The Pioneer Saloon....good all American beef. The food is good, the drinks are great and the service always with a smile!... More

This place is great. My family and I went there for dinner recently. The first thing you need to know is they don't take reservations and you will more than likely have to wait. If that bothers you, don't go there. They have ample seating for those that are waiting and they offer you chips and salsa and you can... More

We arrived on a Friday evening at about 7:15 with no reservations. The wait was a good hour plus, but the waitstaff kept us well supplied with drinks while we were waiting. The people watching during the wait provided great entertainment. When we were finally seated, our server was very friendly and attentive. My wife and I split the fish... More

Description
For some The Pioneer Saloon is the first restaurant to head to when coming into town and the last place to go before leaving. For others, it's where they met their significant other, perhaps over a bar marg. The Pioneer Saloon, renowned for perfectly aged, tender and flavorful beef, is typical of an earlier Idaho where ore wagons rattled down Main Street and business was done with a handshake and a drink. Natural woods, mounted game, and period firearms help recreate an authentic saloon atmosphere.

Duffy and Sheila Witmer have been the sole owners of the Pioneer Saloon since 1986. Today, with their children, Alyson, Chloe and Dillon, they strive to honor a historical classic while bringing new ideas to Ketchum's restaurant scene.
