My family and I came here craving a good BBQ place and we wanted to try this one. I'll say right off that bat that our experience here was just average. The place itself was not the cleanest and it was cluttered in the back...room. Just had storage laying around and a lot shoved in the back corner so that was not visually appealing. The customer service was friendly but was not very attentive and were slow to bring the food out despite us being one of the only families in the restaurant. They were quick to help if you requested something which was appreciated.
As for the food. My wife had the pulled pork sandwich and I reviewed slaw on the side. The quality of the meat was really tasty. Juicy and very tender. They had a tasty BBQ sauce and a vinegrette slaw that was really awesome to have on the sandwich. Was very sweet. My one complaint with the sandwich is the bun choice. Very poor quality of bread and the juice just made it quickly soggy. My wife couldn't eat her bottom bun since it was just a goop. They should really switch to some type of brioche bun. That would really solve that problem. Another payment on another meal was that the meat was a bit chewy and tasted like it was something that had been heated up rather than prepared fresh. So that was off putting for them. Overall we thought the meal was just very average for BBQ place. Kind of a let down, places like this are usually the go too BBQ places in town.
Our visit wasn't the worst but honestly we probably won't be coming back. Simply because we know of a lot of other BBQ places in the city that we highly prefer so we would much rather go to those ones.More
My experience of dining-in at Grandpas was not a good one. The dining room looked more like an employee back room... messy, storage stuff all around, and the surfaces all looked like it needed a good cleaning. Not even recognizable to the photos on their...website.
The food however, was worse. The tiny hind quarter chicken lunch was closer to a jerky lunch. I was very disappointed as I recalled delicious meats from this restaurant. It was sad and overcooked. The tiny cornbread muffin was okay but butter would have been helpful. If all that wasn't enough... I received a packet of utensils that were dirty looking... kinda had a "licked off" look to them, so I used my one tiny napkin to rub them as clean as I could get them. But then when I used them, I could taste the cheap metal... these utensils were the cheapest metal type I've ever seen. I realize this has been a hard year to make a profit, but at the least I should expect cleanliness in the room and the utensils. If this isn't possible, then maybe take-out is the ONLY option here. Best of luck to this restaurant as I believe the food was the high point to go there... but not on that day if you ordered chicken.More
Many people will review the bbq, which was good. I would like to tell you to consider the desserts. They are wonderful! You will eat your fill there, as the portions are generous. Consider buying a slice of each pie and sharing them with a...best friend later. We bought four different slices and they became a beautiful indulgence. I'm gonna try a young term . . . YOLO! One meal of desserts won't kill you unless you are diabetic and the experience is sublime. Idaho Falls in on the way to Yellowstone NP if you are coming from the south. BBQ for lunch and pies for supper. Go for it.
On another note, this place is kind of like visiting your aunties house. A very sweet lady visited with us and several other tables of, I presume, regulars.More
Best food all around. No only is the main meal great but the sides are real. The tough part is knowing where to find it. It is well hidden and does not get as much local support. The environment is not fancy, which means that...you can just enjoy great food. Looking forward to post COVID to go back.More
We drove from Salt Lake City to try this wonderful family owned and run BBQ cafe. They have the best brisket around and killer sides. Try the collard greens and for a true country experience, add the pepper sauce. Now for the best part. The...desserts are authentic southern cooking. I may adjust my route when possible to drop by this gem.More
While here for work we’ve eaten at nearly every restaurant in town. I wish we’d found this place sooner. We had brisket, pork ribs, collard greens and baked beans.
We were greeted by our lovely waitress followed by the owner. Our service was prompt and...the dinner delicious.
We’re big brisket eaters so the bar is high and Grandpa’s did not disappoint. It is tender and flavorful. Maybe even some of the best I’ve had. The ribs were wonderful as well, as were the greens and beans. I don’t know if they make their own BBQ sauce because it wasn’t needed.
We ended with the peach cobbler which is to die for.
We’ll be back.More
