About
Capitol Cellars opened in Boise, Idaho on March 3, 2015. Melinda and Skip Smyser, along with daughter, Logan Smyser Griffin created a restaurant that focuses on serving high-quality, local cuisine and offering a world-class wine list and full bar in Boise’s subterranean Belgravia cellar location. The Belgravia, which was built in 1904 is one of Boise’s historical buildings which is reminiscent of Boise’s turn of the century elegance. Capitol Cellars serves Boise’s best business lunch and an elegant-upscale dinner menu that changes with the season’s bounty. As of Summer, 2017, Capitol Cellars now has a lovely patio area, which is a perfect place for lunch, happy hour, and dinner. Capitol Cellars

We hosted a rehearsal dinner for 15 people at Capitol Cellars in the middle of the COVID pandemic. The planning on our end, was last minute and sporadic due to the bride and groom's indecisions. However, Logan and Capitol Cellars were a joy to work...with! The private space in the back of the restaurant was set beautifully, while also maintaining the COVID rules and protocols regarding social distancing. The food was tasty and all of our guests, many whom have not dined at Capitol Cellars, enjoyed their time. I would recommend the French onion soup, halloumi fries, croquettes, salmon, prime rib, wine varietals, and any of their deserts! We will definitely be back, both for more private events and for date nights too!More

Whenever we spend close to $100/person on dinner, we have certain expectations. We had eaten here pre COVID, so we were anxious for a return visit. Firstly, the ambiance is great with the stone walls. Unfortunately, they don’t comply with the distance restrictions between tables,...and the sound of voices bounces off the walls and the low ceilings making it difficult to hear those sitting across form you. Now that many of the restaurants have reopened, we find that the best ones have two or more weeks advance reservations, this one does not; lesson learned. This restaurant must be experiencing a talent shortage in both food preparation and service. Their menu specialty steak was overcooked and poor quality. We had one appetizer that was decent. The wait staff was shockingly rude and ungrateful, not offering a thank you at any time. Even the host at the entrance threatened us when we said that our current experience had degraded dramatically. Clearly, people are not flocking to this restaurant and we won’t make that mistake again. Apparently, COVID has had an impact here, unlike many of the much better choices in town.More

In the midst of the COVID restrictions, Capital Cellars did a fantastic job. The food was great, the wine list was impressive, the service was excellent, and we were sure everything was done to put us at ease for concerns about the pandemic. We were...a ten person group and had a memorable meal in a relaxed and elegant atmosphere. Well done Capital Cellars.More

A lot of people forget about Capitol Cellars, which is really sad because it is amazing! The food is absolutely delicious and service is outstanding. The server remembers what we order every time and what wine we like, etc. They also have a great wine...list. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a nice night out.More

By far the most disappointing high end meal we have had in boise. We had such high hopes for this place it's in a really cool location. The prime rib was over Cooked to the point it was dry and chewy. My wife's salmon was...dry as well her risotto was mushy. Never been this disappointed with a meal when you spend 165 dollars for a two person dinner you expect something amazing. We let the manager know that it was the most disappointing meal that we have ever had in boise and that we would never come back and that he should be checking the food before it goes out to customers. Please if you are Traveling to Boise there are so many amazing places to eat. This place is not one of them.More

I went to Capitol Cellars recently with a group and had a lovely time during happy hour on their patio. The food (Halloumi fries) were pheromonal! And while we all sipped on different beverages, I enjoyed the 2C pinot gris. It was refreshing and hit...the spot after a long day of work! Staff was attentive and despite COVID-19 pandemic, I always felt safe and like safety measures were being properly followed by all employees. Will be back soon!More

As we all suffer through the Covid-19 isolation, my wife and I opted to procure Capitol Cellars' special Easter menu. Pick-up was seamless, the re-heating instructions were concise - and the meal dramatically exceeded our expectations: a generous portion of ham, among the best au...gratin potatoes either of us could remember, a vegetable, focaccia bread, and an amazing chocolate gateau (with two sauces) for dessert. There were no flaws. Plus, the price charged for the meal was an outstanding value. My wife and I so miss "live" dining at Boise's great restaurants, but an experience like this does make life somewhat easier. We shall return soon!More

VERY DISAPPOINTED. It's a very old building built in early 1900 interior is lined in big blocks very cool. It seemed like there was only one waiter and lots of table runners Once your oder was taken it was difficult to find him again. The...menu seemed to direct you to their capital stake at market price 48 bucks. My wife ordered pork chops which was three small pork chips smaller than three chicken nuggets. At 29 dollars. This restaurant is a great find. It is a great place for Breakfast. Good service, good food, and great menu. Roy was a wonderful waiter and very friendly. One of the owners was there and we enjoyed visiting with her too.

The waitress was the only rude person we met in Boise. Miserable experience. It was like she was intentionally trying to cause discomfort.

There is a vegetarian menu selection but it changes on a regular basis. Best to call ahead and ask. Ask, too, about their Happy Hour.
