We had a very bad meal. Here were the problems: 1. French onion soup was so thick and salty that you felt like dumping your water glass into it to dampen it down 2. Ordered rare Lamb chops, they were beyond well done, like eating...mutton 3. Ordered medium-rare Prime Rib, it came medium well, I think that’s what you could call it, a strange chewy and gummy texture All the sides were super salty, and our table was wobbly. We didn’t even try to finish our meals or take any home. We paid a high price, not only for the bill but the after effects of the menu. Too bad, because it’s a beautiful venue and could have been a lovely valentines dinner.More

We loved the location and the ambiance. Downtown location is great. We ordered the French onion soup… it was terrible, tasted like a mix and had a square of sliced cheese on top…no kidding. The ravioli they said was homemade, there is no way. It...tasted like a frozen meal. The burger was ok and wine selection was good.More

The young man that was our waiter never came back I'm assuming because we were upset! I guess social media hasn't taught him how to apologize or treat people with respect. Or just maybe it was because we were old. We eat out a lot...and have wanted to try Capitol Cellars in Boise for a while. We put an hour in the meter and walked to the restaurant...took a while to get seated (they we not busy yet) but we did and a tall young man seated us. He was very attentive at first but when there was questions about certain things on menu...it was just what they had on the menu no suggestions about leaving the seasoning off this item or that item. We got our beer, ice tea and our soup. Had to ask for bread but that was the end of our service. Order got mixed up and we were there for over 1 1/2 hours. One of the waitresses or manager, wasn't sure which, was very apologetic and kept coming back to our table. The young waiter we had also came and told us there was a ticket mix up and basically that was that. When I wanted him to explain he was very matter of fact....this was the way it was! No apologies from him. After that, the very apologetic lady took care of us...she was great! People had come, ate, paid and were on their way. Not us, we had to take another trip back to the parking meter, Eventually our food did come. We're very understanding about mix ups etc, but not very understanding about rude, disrespectful young people. This tall young man didn't know how to communicate as a waiter (to old people) or apologize.More

I am so sorry to hear that you had a bad experience at our restaurant today and that you felt disrespected. That is certainly not the dining experience that we strive for and I will be certain to discuss this with the employee in question....More

My husband and I happened upon this restaurant as we were walking down the street. We paused to read the menu outside and a lady going into a nearby building said the restaurant was awesome. We had dinner there that night and we're quite pleased....It is in the basement of an old stone building. Each dish is named after an important political figure in Idaho's history. A table is reserved for the mayor and another for the governor ( neither was in attendance that evening). Many prices end in 43 cents since Idaho was the 43rd state in the US. My prime rib was delicious and I enjoyed the Idaho baked potato. My husband's lamb chops were cooked expertly and were tasty. We would recommend this place.More

We hosted a rehearsal dinner for 15 people at Capitol Cellars in the middle of the COVID pandemic. The planning on our end, was last minute and sporadic due to the bride and groom's indecisions. However, Logan and Capitol Cellars were a joy to work...with! The private space in the back of the restaurant was set beautifully, while also maintaining the COVID rules and protocols regarding social distancing. The food was tasty and all of our guests, many whom have not dined at Capitol Cellars, enjoyed their time. I would recommend the French onion soup, halloumi fries, croquettes, salmon, prime rib, wine varietals, and any of their deserts! We will definitely be back, both for more private events and for date nights too!More

Whenever we spend close to $100/person on dinner, we have certain expectations. We had eaten here pre COVID, so we were anxious for a return visit. Firstly, the ambiance is great with the stone walls. Unfortunately, they don’t comply with the distance restrictions between tables,...and the sound of voices bounces off the walls and the low ceilings making it difficult to hear those sitting across form you. Now that many of the restaurants have reopened, we find that the best ones have two or more weeks advance reservations, this one does not; lesson learned. This restaurant must be experiencing a talent shortage in both food preparation and service. Their menu specialty steak was overcooked and poor quality. We had one appetizer that was decent. The wait staff was shockingly rude and ungrateful, not offering a thank you at any time. Even the host at the entrance threatened us when we said that our current experience had degraded dramatically. Clearly, people are not flocking to this restaurant and we won’t make that mistake again. Apparently, COVID has had an impact here, unlike many of the much better choices in town.More

In the midst of the COVID restrictions, Capital Cellars did a fantastic job. The food was great, the wine list was impressive, the service was excellent, and we were sure everything was done to put us at ease for concerns about the pandemic. We were...a ten person group and had a memorable meal in a relaxed and elegant atmosphere. Well done Capital Cellars.More

By far the most disappointing high end meal we have had in boise. We had such high hopes for this place it's in a really cool location. The prime rib was over Cooked to the point it was dry and chewy. My wife's salmon was...dry as well her risotto was mushy. Never been this disappointed with a meal when you spend 165 dollars for a two person dinner you expect something amazing. We let the manager know that it was the most disappointing meal that we have ever had in boise and that we would never come back and that he should be checking the food before it goes out to customers. Please if you are Traveling to Boise there are so many amazing places to eat. This place is not one of them.More

I went to Capitol Cellars recently with a group and had a lovely time during happy hour on their patio. The food (Halloumi fries) were pheromonal! And while we all sipped on different beverages, I enjoyed the 2C pinot gris. It was refreshing and hit...the spot after a long day of work! Staff was attentive and despite COVID-19 pandemic, I always felt safe and like safety measures were being properly followed by all employees. Will be back soon!More

As we all suffer through the Covid-19 isolation, my wife and I opted to procure Capitol Cellars' special Easter menu. Pick-up was seamless, the re-heating instructions were concise - and the meal dramatically exceeded our expectations: a generous portion of ham, among the best au...gratin potatoes either of us could remember, a vegetable, focaccia bread, and an amazing chocolate gateau (with two sauces) for dessert. There were no flaws. Plus, the price charged for the meal was an outstanding value. My wife and I so miss "live" dining at Boise's great restaurants, but an experience like this does make life somewhat easier. We shall return soon!More
