Very good Mediterranean/Middle Eastern food, but you can find the same quality and quantity around Boise for $5 less per appetizer or entree.

A friend advised us to eat Middle Eastern food while in Boise so we took a quick Lyft out to Ishtar Market, which has an adjoining restaurant. I am sure we looked lost and the proprietor warmly greeted us and led us to a table....We both ordered this dish and although we had not eaten lunch could not quite finish. There is a quaint market next door where many locals shop for foods. My son wanted candy and the owner kindly directed him to the best option, explaining that the candy all was imported from Europe. Fun, casual cultural experience and inexpensive, delicious dinner all to a soccer game with commentary in Arabic.More

I ate here about a week after returning home from a trip to Egypt and Dubai, where I enjoyed some excellent local cuisine. When I walked in, it smelled just like the restaurants I had visited overseas. The food was good, decent sized portions and...the staff was friendly. The hummus was particularly good.More

Excellent falafel, a good but perhaps overly tart eggplant salad (the same salad at The Goodness Land just down the street is the star of the meal), good lamb, good hummus, generous portions for the price, service a little slow, acceptable but not excellent homemade...baklava. There is a Middle Eastern market attached to the restaurant, which has imported sweets, cooking ingredients and household staples ~ lots of fun to browse in the market while you wait for your food.More

Ishtar has some of the best middle eastern food I've ever had. Their homemade bread that comes with the hummus and sandwiches is to die for, and the falafel sandwich was the best I've ever had and absolutely huge for only $3.50. Their desserts are...unbelievable as well - the baklava is fantastic, as is the halva and another pastry thing that I can't remember the name. Highly recommended if you're into middle eastern/ Mediterranean foodMore

Had a nice time sampling middle eastern cuisine at Ishtar restaurant. The hummus and falafel were very good. Lentil soup was delicious. Everything was uniquely spiced and delicious that we tried. Service is slow but food is worth the wait. Good place to try something...different.More

The food at Ishtar is good, just do not go there to eat if you need to be anywhere anytime soon. It will be awhile before they take your order and it will be even longer before the food arrives. The food is good though,...especially the bread that comes with the hummus. Yummy.More

Good food, but it should be more authentic and has a variety of old Iraqi food. The market is kinda more expensive than other markets, but still you will find what you want. They need to redecorate the restaurant.

We went again after a long absence. I had memories of fantastic food and large portions. However, the portion size has declined. Still good food and a good value but not as great as it was before. The bread is the best bread in the...valley. Sometimes they are stingy with it though. The bread is for sale at the market next door for 40 or 50 cents a piece. It would be okay to charge for extra bread with meal rather than hesitate to give it to a customer who asks for it. But don't ignore the request! This place is a true ethnic dive, but very good food.More

This is a wonderful restaurant and marketplace! I drop in at least two or three times per week to purchase ingredients for my Lebanese dishes along with the fresh bread for 40 cents. The family that owns it is very friendly and helpful. I highly...recommend them. 5 Stars!More
