My wife and I visited Richard's to celebrate our anniversary in June. I don't know why, but this was our first visit to Richard's since moving to Boise in 2003. We were very impressed with the food and service, and the prices were surprisingly reasonable...for the quality of the dining experience. For whatever reason, my perception of Richard's was of a very expensive dining experience, but that wasn't the case at all. And, the food was delicious!!! The staff were superb. We thoroughly enjoyed chatting with them during our visit. Andrew and Megan stood out with their great service and very friendly demeanor.More

Excellent hotel in a great location in downtown Boise. Only area of improvement is the Richard's in-room dining - suggest they step up the customer service and remember to include the obvious things that one needs to eat a meal - utensil set ups missing,...ordered food items missing, condiments missing, etc. Needed to call back frequently to obtain these items with each in-room service meal. Otherwise a great stay.More

One, if not the best food choices I have made. I highly recommend this place. We stayed at the Inn at 500 capital and decided to eat at Richards the 1st night. OMG... The 2nd night we ordered room service and my husband choose the...same dish, which was Canaloni, and I ordered steak, OMG It was the best we have ever had. Also know, we have been to several 4 star restaurants and nothing comes close to what we tasted at Richard's. You wont be disappointed... Thank you, Richard's for giving the best tasting food we have yet had... We will be back!!More

Sometimes eating in a hotel restaurant is just OK. We chose this restaurant after we went to the Idaho State Museum. The tomato soup was very good along with a side salad. Really liked the potato chips with Truffle Oil.

Sat at the bar with a coworker. Drinks were good but priced to the high end of Boise cocktails without being any better than other establishments. Dinner was quite good but again high prices for Boise. I prefer Alavita.

The hotel felt like a chain hotel with limited amenities. The staff was nice and helpful, but the restaurant (Richards) more than quadruple charged us for a $40 tab, which turned out to be a $190 line item on our bill at check out. I...didn’t notice it until I got home. They admitted they put the check through 4x and offered to credit us the proper amount. But how does that happen by accident? If I could take back the tip on those two drinks I would. It left a horrible impression and I will not recommend or stay at the hotel again.More

We continue to dine here whenever we are in Boise. Food is always excellent, service superb. They have a full bar and dining area that can be intimate. This time I had the stuffed quail which was delicious. My spouse went for the Prosciutto Wrapped...Chicken Breast, again delicious. They have a reasonably priced wine list worth buying from. It is downtown but there is adequate parking next to the front door.More

We decided to make reservations for Thanksgiving, & luckily got on the wait list & secured a res. for 6:30pm. A credit card was required to hold the res. Free covered parking was available off to the side of the restaurant, which was nice &...convenient. Arriving it was quiet, but it seemed that the staff was busy. Our server was professional, if a bit stiff. Hostess also was setting tables, but I guess that they don't use tray service to reset as she was holding bread plates against her sweater before placing them on the tables. This didn't appear sanitary to us. Tables were beautifully set & elegant. Unfortunately, the small booths on the raised platform were claustrophobic & not comfortable, so we opted to move to a table w/chairs. The server was quite gracious to accommodate us. We ordered iced teas & we accepted the offer of lemon, but we declined the sugar, however the server still brought the sugar to the table. It took up unnecessary space. The amuse was a surprise, but also seemed to be prepared quite early in the day & had lost it's freshness. The prosciutto wrapped figs w/gorgonzola were oddly greasy & tough. The panko crusted goat cheese was also wet & not a nice texture from the barely covering panko. The mixed salad w/pomegranate pips, orange supremes & feta & the squash soup were both delicious & flavorful. Service appeared to be of a fine dining level, but our table was never de-crumbed, perhaps that is not a standard that they follow. Entrees arrived next. We got the Thanksgiving turkey w/ all the trimmings & the King Salmon. The salmon was crispy & delicious, served w/rice w/ imperceptible saffron & a corn/pepper pudding. The turkey was juicy, but we both remarked at how salty it tasted. Perhaps it was salt-brined to keep it moist, but I needed several refills of iced tea just to finish. The bread stuffing was generous & highly anticipated, but it did come off lackluster, w/o much flavor & an insufficient amount of gravy. The accompanying green beans, w/cream sauce, were still slightly too crunchy & several were grey in color. My disappointed came in the small ramekin of cranberry sauce as it was so minuscule to almost be missed on the plate. It was barely half full & I greatly would have enjoyed more as it was perfectly balanced. After dinner was cleared, we waited & waited for the desserts to arrive, w/ no offer of coffee & not sure why this course the timing was so much longer. I understand that the dessert course is classically served w/ a spoon, but a hard crust pecan tart (pie) is difficult to cut into w/ a spoon & shards of crust did fly across the table, still it was the most delicious item of the evening. The house made whipped cream had an odd texture, but excellent flavor. The chocolate mousse was a disappointment. Much to airy, but dense, almost cake-like, at the same time without the depth of chocolate that was expected. Another odd texture & it was not entirely consumed as the pecan tart was. Never did a manager appear in the dining room & although there wasn't anything outstand to comment on, it would have been nice to receive a holiday greeting from a manager at such a named fine dining restaurant. Yes, the server did check on us several times, but again, nothing so egregious to voice a complaint over & we did tip above 20%. Would we return? Yes, we have heard great things about their regular Italian menu & it will be nice to dine on the upper terrace come spring, but we will approach w/ appropriately lowered expectations. After posting this review, I received a tersely worded reply from Richard, the owner, of which he has since softened his response, but I saved the original reply here; "Glad to see you had the time to post this diatribe on every review site. Perhaps we should not have put you on our wait list - then neither of us would have been disappointed". No apology, no offer. I felt my review was fair, balanced & thorough & only posted on 2 sites, but I will now drop a star from 3, due to his attitude & post on more sites.More

We rarely travel to Boise, but when we do we love to eat at Richard's. Staff is exceptional, especially Kimber. Good, representative wine list to compliment the food. I had the rabbit which was delicious. My wife had the cheese ravioli - AGAIN; she loves...the dish. Two of us had the tomato basil soup and both of us wanted the recipe. We highly recommend this establishment for good food, reasonably priced.More

We stayed at the wonderful hotel here, and came in for a terrific breakfast after our first night. It was all so smooth, the food was so tasty, and the service so spot on we decided to come for dinner. That was even better!!! Service...here is on par with very high end restaurants, as is the food. This is not a casual hotel joint. WE had an amazing evening - and with the pandemic it has been a long time since we’d had one. So grateful to all of the staff here for that gift. After our great dinner we decided to breakfast there on our last day - we never do that sort of thing, as there are always lots of places to go eat, but this was just too good to miss out on. If you find yourself in the area - GO!More

The service is very professional. The menu outstanding. My husband has had rabbit all over the world, and the preparation here was his favorite. My duck was excellent. Prices are reasonable for the quality of the meal.

Excellent food at very reasonable prices. Extensive wine selection and full bar. We are from out of town, went here based on last minute decision. We had such a good enjoyable experience we ended up eating here there times in three weeks. Lamb chops were...some of the best I have ever had - done medium rare, moist, very flavorful. I had the lamb chops three times in three weeks - that says enough. My wife had the Confit of Duck leg, said it was one of the best she ever had. Prices were very reasonable given the high quality of the cooking and presentation. This is a first class operation. Staff was incredibly friendly, pleasant and personable. We had three different servers, were loved all three. This is a place worth spending time to drive to. Plenty of parking even though it is down town. We highly recommend and intend to return next time we are in Boise.More

I stayed in the hotel attached to the restaurant, but was a little disappointed in the selections being so large (when it should be obvious people staying in restaurants aren't really going to want left overs with a 12 oz steak). The food was good...and well prepared. The fig flatbread was excellent. But there were only 3 selections on the menu I thought of ordering.More

My husband and I had a lovely dinner at Richard's last night. We are staying in the Inn at 500 Capitol and arrived yesterday afternoon. We decided on Richard's since it is in the same building and simple for us after traveling all day. Great...choice! Our waiter Giovanni was superb -- attentive, helpful with site seeing suggestions, present just when we needed him. My husband had the caesar salad with anchovies and the duck confit. Both were excellent. The halibut I had was melt in your mouth tender with a crispy crust. Outstanding.More

Does Not matter what you wear because Boise ID is not NYC, but you will still be disappointed by the average to below average food at high prices!
