My new favorite

I recently had lunch at Abuelos and had not been there in months. Frankly, the last time I was there I was unimpressed. However, this meal was quite different. Not sure if there is new management but the first thing you notice is that the interior has been completely redone. It might have a few less seats but the bar and kitchen on either side with tables in the center works well. I was greeted promptly with a friendly smile and a "sit anywhere" response. Once seated, I was served chips and salsa and must say that the salsa is outstanding. Slightly spicy with tomato bits, it was perfect for my taste. There was a lady making guacamole with fresh limes and I took some home. It was outstanding. My meal started with excellent cheese dip and a cold beer served at a perfect temperature. I had a couple of grilled chicken (soft) tacos which were served with a homemade sauce containing habanero pepper. It is not for those with a weak stomach but was perfect for me. The wait staff was attentive without being intrusive and I left there quite full and eager to return. Check this lovely restaurant out. I am glad I did and will return soon.

A Covid Miracle

Are you tired of being constantly in your home? Are you tired of Social Distancing? Are you tired of the ... masks? A dew days ago I stopped by Abuelos Mexican Kitchen? I was concerned about being cold or too close to others. I was able to sit about 12 feet away from other guests. Abuelos had a heater outdoors. The staff wore masks. The outside dining was great. The food and drinks were excellent. Did I mention that the drinks were great. Service was provided by Pablo. He is very knowledgeable about food and drinks. He was also prompt and attentive. Ask for him when you go. The Sergio the owner stopped by our table at the end of the meal to make sure every thing was ok.

Great Mexican!

Just came back for my second visit and, as before, the food was delicious, the service was fast and friendly, and the prices are reasonable. Highly recommended!

First Time Here

Where is Pablo?

We started going here a year ago and fell in love with it especially Pablo and his family. But the last 3 trips, none of the family was there. We ask everytime and always get sketchy responses. Anybody know?

Great Margaritas

We came here for a family birthday. The organic margarita with fresh limes was wonderful. I ordered the Chicken YMCA (chicken with spinach, mushrooms and queso) and my husband had the shrimp fajitas. Our children enjoyed their food as well. It's a great casual, family-friendly place with good service.

Our Favorite Mexican Restaraunt!

Abuelos is our go-to spot for Mexican food. The food is delicious. I recommend starting with the queso, salsa, and freshly made guacamole. Yum! I also recommend the tacos and empanadas. The margaritas are good, too! The staff is very friendly and attentive. We're looking forward to another dinner here soon!

Not all Mexican food tasts the same.....

Let me start this review by saying that we went to Abuelos after taking a sick child to CHOA for an MRI and waiting for the follow-up appointment two days later. So, we were stressed. I think most Mexican restaurants taste about the same. We found this one on trip advisor and gave it a try since it was close. We didn't think it was as good as some of the others. The frozen drink machine was not ready so we could not get an Original frozen margarita and it took some time before chips were brought to our table. The food was OK. Honestly, it may have been that we were too stressed to actually enjoy anything we put into our mouths.

Our New Favorite Restaurant

Really great restaurant with very good Mexican food. Staff is super friendly. In Abernathy Square on Roswell Rd and Abernathy Rd. You've got to try their "Special Tequila"...enjoy it. ** Absolutely the Best Margaritas Anywhere **. Guacamole made fresh for each order. The gracious Pablo and his staff love to make you feel at home.

Great Mexican Find

I found this place one day when I went out for lunch from work on a Monday. It is tucked away in Abernathy Square off Roswell and Aberanthy Road, right behind Hardees. I walked in and was immediately seated. I started with chips and salsa, which was good. The salsa had quite a kick to it. For lunch, I had the chimichanga with beef, which was excellent. It had a tasty queso sauce on top. The prices were very reasonable the service was great. Three different employees were checking on me, constantly. This is a great place for some good Mexican food and a good place to bring a small party or family. Plenty of parking is available in the lot.

Decent new Tex-Mex

I recently met a friend and colleague for lunch and he suggested Abuelos. There are lots of Mexican restaurants in the area but it is always nice to try new ones. We were greeted by lovely people in this family owned restaurant. It is not a large place but seating was no problem. The chips and salsa were quite good and the wait staff kept the chips and salsa in adequate supply as we munched. I ordered the chicken quesadilla and a chili relleno. The quesadilla was quite good and served with pico de gallo and sour cream. The portion was large and the food was served hot and with a pleasant attitude. I was a bit disappointed in the chili relleno as it was not prepared the way I like mine prepared. It is more of a Tex-Mex menu and not like food from central Mexico. My lunch partners each had entrees including an avocado salad and we all took "to go" boxes with us. The service was excellent and we were thanked by the owner (or manager) as we departed. Moderately priced, pleasant and decent food. I like the family owned attitude and smaller footprint so we will definitely return to Abuelos.

Gourmet Mexican. The best.

The best! Great food, comes out hot. Margaritas actually have authentic tequila. in them unlike other Mexican restaurants. Strong! Tequila shots are smooooth! Generous portions, attentive ownership, We go once a week. Go there enjoy. Fun place. Family restaurant. Ask for Pablo.A++++++++++++. Agree with Chris B, Love this place. Treat you like family.

My New Favorite

If you want fresh and delicious Mexican food in a bright and clean family owned restaurant, Abuelos is the place for you. From the handcrafted salsa & guacamole to the delicious frozen cocktails to the authentic fresh cuisine and friendly service, Abuelos will not disappoint. My favorite dish is the YMCA Chicken which includes tender grilled strips of chicken, fresh mushrooms and spinach with queso, rice & beans. I skip the rice and go for a side of their homemade guacamole instead. The best! It is so refreshing to dine in a clean well appointed restaurant with lots of sunlight and an open kitchen. The staff really seems to care that you have a good experience too. I have given up on the traditional dark hole-in-the walls and the big chain restaurants and am very glad I did. Prices are moderate and less than many Mexican restaurants for much lower quality food. I think I'll head over for lunch again today.
