Garlic Bread and Gluten-free Pizza

There is truly a reason this is the #1 rated restaurant in Helen! The customer service is the BEST in Helen, by far! Our waitress was busy, but sweet and attentive. The same could not be said for many other Helen restaurants where the wait staff was annoyed that you were there. We ordered the garlic bread with fresh ranch as an appetizer and that was a great decision. It was FRESH, smelled amazing, and tasted even better! Everyone in my family eats a different kind of pizza, so we had many options that night. My husband also noted that they make their dough, fresh, in- house. My son loved the cheese pizza, my husband ordered pepperoni with mushroom, my daughter ordered a specialty pizza that she loved and I ordered a gluten-free pizza. I have a food allergy. Our waitress was sure to relay this to the kitchen. My pizza was excellent. I did not get sick afterwards, either. It was BY FAR one of the BEST gluten-free pizzas I have ever had. The restaurant and bathroom were clean with ample parking behind, on the hill. This will for sure be added to our list of places where we "must eat in Helen."

Great Service & Food

My boyfriend and I came to dine in at Nachoochee Tavern. The food was amazing and definitely plenty to take home for leftovers. Our server, Will, was very attentive and helpful when recommending items on the menu. I would definitely come back and request Will when we come back.

Best pizza around, unique and fresh ingredients, huge 18" , highly recommend their Tavern Combo appetizer with order og focaccia bread. It easily feeds 4 . The best part of our experience tonight was out server, Jill. What an awesome smile and customer service 150%. We have a lot of tourists in our area and I've heard them be so hateful to our business/ restaurant staff. It is not an easy job!! I appreciated her courteous and efficient service, excellent recommendations and attentiveness. Thank you Jill for making delicious food fun and an enjoyable experience

Bad Experience; Won’t Return

After tubing my husband and I stopped in for a late lunch. We were very hungry, and I was in the mood for pizza, which is rare for me. I found this restaurant online, and I thought the menu looked good. So we ordered a large Chuck Norris to share- chicken, bbq sauce, bacon, grilled onions, and cheese. After several minutes, the server, Hannah, who was very nice, informed us and said they were out of chicken. They had the pizza ready to go in the oven, so she asked us whether we wanted a different pizza or to substitute a different meat. We were disappointed but very hungry, so we asked to substitute ground beef. After a very long wait, the pizza arrived. It was mostly very salty bacon and cheese, some ground beef. There were no grilled onions, and there was only a tiny bit of bbq sauce around the edges. It was not tasty. We ate because we were so hungry. The server asked us how it was, and we told her it wasn’t good and why. She told us to wait so she could see what she could do. She said we were getting a 30% discount. I felt like that was an insult because she’s the pizza was so bad. Hannah was nice, but we won’t be coming back when we visit Helen again.

I am a chef, in the true sense of the word, and I have much experience in making pizzas and I truly appreciate pizza that resembles ones from NY and Chicago, or at the very least one that is made with effort and dedication to the craft. I had guests staying with me over the last couple of days and they were wanting pizza on two of there nights here with me us and we, my wife and I, choose Nacoochee Village Tavern to provide us with a hand crafted Brooklyn style pizza that would satisfy most pizza aficionados requirements. Alas….didn’t happen. My opinion is that either they don’t know how to deliver on this or they don’t have the tools to pull this off. Either way, $23 for these pizzas was in no means fair and equitable. So dissatisfied and disappointed, that I couldn’t apologise enough to my guests. There are hungry and will more that likely eat a slice or two but it will not at anytime conjure up memorable moments of there stay here with us in Helen. BTW, they are from NY. Sorry but I will more that likely go with Dejourno. Oh, almost forgot, the paper that was under the pizza was stuck to the pie itself. Undercooked.

OMG this place is sooooo slow! We ordered 1 pizza and 1 salad and it took them an hour to bring out the pizza! We were about to leave, but out of our own goodwill stayed. The pizza was okay, slightly burned and nothing to write home about. I would not go back or recommend this place!

Dropping in for a casual bite, ordered the Junker pizza (minus peppers and olives, added mushrooms). Had to search for the sausage and mushrooms. Guess it was okay. Service would have been good except we couldn’t divide the slices. Asked them to recut the pizza and waitress goes”I’ll bring you a steak knife and you can!” SMH. Sitting outside is nice enjoying a beer is nice. Just expect average.

Disappointed by changes

Every time we are on Helen, this restaurant is on our list of places to go. Tonight we went and were disappointed to find out you can no longer get pizza by the slice. With 3 picky kids, I always loved being able to get them each their own slice.The cheese bread appetizer was also disappointing. It was loaded with the pre minced garlic that has a bitter taste. The pizza we ordered was good. Our server did not feel very interested in helping us even though the restaurant was not busy.

We visited this place after a day of hiking around Helen and was looking forward to a salad and some pizza. We arrived around 7 pm and it was busy, but not packed. We waited about 10 minutes for a table which we felt was very good for a Saturday evening. Our server took our order - a house salad to share and a pizza. After about 45 minutes, the hostess who seated us noticed we had no food yet and said something to our server. She came to our table and said she was checking on our food. A couple of minutes later she came back with our salad. The house salad was very good so we thought if this is an indication of the quality we were looking forward to the pizza. After about 15 minutes more, she cam back to our table and made some comment about so many tickets in the kitchen and she had no idea when we would get our pizza. She asked if we'd like to have it put in a to go box when it was ready of if we'd like to cancel the order. We looked at her and asked - you have no idea? She said the kitchen was really backed up. Again, the place was busy, but not packed and there were not a huge number of people waiting to be seated. I told her to just bring the check for the salad. I suspect, she failed to put our order in until the hostess said something to her. Major disappointment.

Big Disappointment

We have come here everytime we visit Helen and it was always great until.. ........this time the junker pizza we ordered was mostly cheese with very, very little toppings. Not the great pizza we have always gotten. Also, the bloody Mary was soooooooo salty I couldn't even drink it and last year it was one of the best I had ever had. Don't know if it is different people running it but it was a huge disappointment for my husband and myself.😢😢

Will was our server and he was fantastic. Gave us recommendations for which pizza to order and helped with a beer selection. Very attentive service and cool chatting with him. He also offered to bring milk with the sticky bun we were splitting which was a brilliant idea. We are staying in Helen, GA until the end of February and have family coming to visit. We'll definitely be bringing them to this place. Thanks again, Will. Service is a large part of restaurant dining.

Great Food & Service! I called to make sure they were open and was told they had a large party and it would be a 45 mins wait for food. We decided to try it anyway. Glad we did!!! Walked in and we’re warned again that they had a tour bus with 50 people and it may take a while. Ordered our lunch and, much to our surprise, it didn’t really take that long. Server was friendly and very attentive. We’ll definitely be back soon and often!

Tasty surprise!

I've been coming to Helen for years but never stopped in here. I came in around 2pm on Tuesday Sept 26, 2023 just to get a sub sandwich for take-out. I sidled up to the bar like a good pilgrim and was immediately greeted for my order. I ordered The Gobbler, a turkey sub on hoagie with a side of potato salad. The sandwich was very good and huge! The hoagie is large and loaded with turkey, a relish sauce, tomatoes and red onions. The potato salad was decent, no mustard at all which was a disappointment but that's how they make theirs and it was still good. If you are ordering The Gobbler, make sure you get a fork and knife, it's so large it's almost impossible to eat because you can't get your mouth around it to take a bite (not a complaint!). The atmosphere is really chill, they have a bar and a couple tables inside and a great patio out front for outdoor seating. They are pet friendly, at least ok the patio. The servers are really friendly, professional and efficient. My server was apparently a new employee, I wish I had gotten his name but he is a great guy, very polite. Definitely recommend and will return.

Stopped in with friends on a weekday afternoon. They had a seat yourself sign out front so we went in to find a table but every empty table had not been cleared from the previous customers. We waited next to a dirty table as other groups were. Eventually, there were about 4 groups standing next to dirty tables waiting to sit down. After we had been standing there awhile one of the servers came over and instructed all of us waiting to go back outside to wait for the tables to cleared and they would come back to get us. After about 10 minutes we looked in and saw the tables were cleared but still had not been wiped down. While waiting more customers continued to arrive and those of us waiting had to tell them the seat yourself sign no longer applied. After waiting a while longer and tables still not being cleared we went in to inform them they had a crowd waiting outside and no one had finished cleaning to tables. They allowed us to come in and wait at the dirty tables, which they still didn’t go around and wipe off for at least another 10 minutes. We counted at least 6 different servers walking around but it was another long wait for one of them to bring us menus and take our drink order. After getting menus there was another significant wait to place our order. We could see there were plenty of servers going around but none of them were stopping at our table. An employee identifying herself as the general manager arrived at our table to take our order and made it very clear she was not supposed to be taking orders but the other servers were not doing their jobs. We had been there for well over an hour when our food arrived, one of our orders was wrong but we had waited so long we didn’t want to wait for them to remake it. Our new server checked the order that was put in and found that Miss Snooty General Manager that was not supposed to be taking orders had put the order in wrong. When we finally left we had been there for 2 hours just for 3 people to eat pizza.

Very overrated by others, food fair, service average

The pizza was ok. Nothing great about pizza. Crust was burned on one half, with a bitter charred taste. Pizza was supposed to have fresh basil, but the server that brought pizza said they did have anybody to chop the basil. Pizza was delivered, but server said they didn’t have plates! Our server came by and said it was a real mess back their, also no plates but he did come up with a large oval plate. Then I had to ask for silverware. Our server was polite.
