We gave Spartina another try, stopped in for lunch & we are so glad that we did!! What was going to be a quick lunch, turned into an almost 2 hour lunch! Between the delicious food thanks to the cook and fabulous friendly server Susan...D... we had a wonderful time & enjoyed the views of the shrimp boats & river. The raw oysters, pork chops & red fish tacos were DELICIOUS!! We had closed out our tab, but were enjoying ourselves so much, that we placed an order of another round of oysters & drinks! Ask for Susan when you stop in!More

We, three adults, exited I-95 and drove to this restaurant on Sunday afternoon. It only took 10 minutes from I-95 Exit 49. The location was excellent. There were not so many choices in Sunday Brunch. All food we ate were good, but services were very...slow. We ordered Beef Melt, Crab Cake Bennie, Chicken and Waffles Sliders, and soft drinks. We paid $75 including 20% of tips. After brunch, we walked around the restaurant. It was a beautiful location! We might be back when we have more time.More

There were 12 of us in our party. The server handled everything perfectly. Kitchen was quick on 12 different meals. Each of the 12 different dishes was excellent. Fried shrimp, fish tacos, and redfish sandwich were especially good. Very nice view of the river. The...place seemed extremely clean. There are several excellent restaurants in Darien, including this one. For a small town, they have an abundance of talent in the local kitchens. A well-run place.More

The drinks were lackluster but of good size. Our waitress,Jessica, was the only waitress in the restaurant. The manager was there but made no discernable effort to improve our experience. When the pasta dish finally came it bore little resemblance to the one described on the...menu and was almost inedible. The crab cakes, fish tacos and grits were good. The beef sliders were edible.More

We are locals and frequently visit all of Darien’s restaurants and have tried and tried to be happy with Spartina. It’s hard to keep staff, we know that and it’s not always easy to train the kitchen to get consistently good food out the door....And Spartina deserves a huge round of applause for staying open during the pandemic. We know this hasn’t been easy. All of that aside, there are some basic problems that have never been fixed, since the opening. Here are some of the details and issues: - Brunch plates seem unfinished and frequently are missing either an ingredient or are just lacking in presentation overall. Case in point: the beef melt sandwich. It comes out all alone on a plate, a sad looking concoction with cheese barely melted. It sure could use a side item, which is true of many of the brunch plates. Why not offer patrons a choice of fruit, green salad or hash browns? Low price items that could ramp up the quality and satisfaction greatly. - The Hollandaise sauce is disgusting. Hire someone who can make basic sauces. Anyone who’s gone to culinary school can make basic sauces. - Why is there only one small crab cake on the Crab Bennie? There should be two eggs and two crab cakes in that plate. Eggs are cheap and you can up the price a couple of dollars and deliver more value. - The ambience is not great. What happened to the flowers on the tables? Put some artwork up on the porch or do something that makes it look less like an industrial cafeteria. That’s the main theme at Spartina: Do. Better. You have stiff competition and your failure to deliver beautifully prepared and presented food consistently means that you are losing the race. Offer more salads AND more locally sourced products. Don’t make patrons ask for salsa when they order the shrimp huevos rancheros, just bring it automatically! We want you to thrive and be successful, but the lack of presentation and value really makes it hard to keep coming back. Get your act together and hire someone who knows how to run a restaurant.More

Service was friendly and efficient. Clearly our server was only one of maybe two this evening, and she handled it well. I had the salmon, others had burgers, scallops, and mahi-mahi. Recommend this to anyone in the area. Not fancy. Just good food.

No smiles, no greetings —“what do you want?” Well I came in to be seated and served. “Porch or inside?” Porch thank you. After dropping paper menus on floor, then placed them on our table. floor was dirty, now table dirty. Grilled???Chicken??? Salad??? ChickenTasted wet...and not very done. Lettuce less than desirable... worse salad ever had. Won’t come back. Sad for Darien GA ... your community deserves better.More

My husband and I enjoyed a quiet date night at Spartina Grill. We experienced excellent service. Our waitress was friendly and ensured we always had a drink, while other staff would quickly retrieve plates off the table that were no longer in use. I enjoyed...the Mahi Mahi with coconut rice and side salad. The food was delicious, well cooked, and fairly priced. My husband had the fried shrimp with fries and coleslaw and was also pleased. Overall, we enjoyed our experience and look forward to our next visit.More

It was a little rough around the edges but overall, an excellent dinner. Another couple with us ordered the evening special chicken and waffles. When served both of their orders were void of any chicken whatsoever and the expected waffles were actually waffle fries. The...orders were apologetically corrected but changed to a good steak filet and scallops with dirty ricotta. My wife selected a large aged rid eye that was of average quality and with a texture that would be more expected of a sirloin steak. Happily, my order of diver scallops and dirty risotto was just absolutely “par excellence”! Both the scallops and risotto rice were as good as I have ever been served and definitely the highlight of the dining experience. Desserts were favorable and quite delicious. Service was at a rather leisure pace and prices were realistic, but not at any discount. Ambiance was good and the marsh/river view was excellent. Overall, we would return.More

Traveling from Maryland to Tampa Florida with one night’s reservation at a bed-and-breakfast in Darien. Arriving late we discovered the “new” Spartina Grill. We called to see if we could order carry out and take it to Inn. Service was extremely friendly, courteous and responsive....We ordered two delicious gourmet burgers (custom cheese selection with the garden!) with crispy fries and it hit the spot after a long trip. We look forward to actually visiting this establishment on another trip and spending a bit more time enjoying their delightful fare.More

Food was excellent and service was attentive and prompt by our server Wakeelah. We came on a Sunday during brunch. I liked that the menu was only 1 page. Too many options makes me think that food is less than fresh. Everything ordered was fresh...and delicious! Will certainly seek them out next time coming through Darien!More

We had dinner there twice. First visit the food was acceptable but overpriced for what it was and the waitress was attentive. Second visit the service was horrendous. Our waitress was nonexistent and I had to continually ask other waiters for water, where is my...dinner, where is my check, etc. Waitress finally appeared with the check and I had to explain to her what TIP meant. To Insure Proper Service. She received nothing. I truly wanted this restaurant to be successful as we eat out three times a week, but Spartina is an absolute train wreck. Its been three months since our last visit and I see that recent reviews mirror our poor experience as well. The co-owner Clay is a nice person but this is obviously a rudderless ship that will soon run aground. Hire quality waitstaff and pay them a premium to keep them. Until I see a series of positive reviews of Spartina we will be dining elsewhere.More

How do you write a review of a restaurant in a town where the #7 restaurant already moved to Brunswick and # 9 is the Waffle House? Anyway, we've now been there three Sundays in a row for brunch because we want to like the...place. But our three visits were wildly different. The first time was wonderful and the service was tremendous. The second time was one of the worst restaurant experiences I have ever had. Service was non-existent and I had to complain about being charged for something we didn't ever receive. Our third visit featured good service again. We have no complaints whatsoever about the food. In fact, it's refreshing not to see the same high-fat, fried foods comprise the entire menu as is the case in so many local restaurants. I wouldn't call the menu chef-inspired but it's not bad. Prices are just a tad higher than some places but they have limited seating and you are not crammed in shoulder-to-shoulder. I'll gladly pay more for good ambience and not being able to hear each and every conversation from the tables around us. Nice view of a magnificent old live oak and the river from the screened-in porch seating. Our three trips have shown us that the place is a work in progress. We sincerely hope the owners finally get all the pieces put together properly. Meanwhile we eat out a lot and will be back. Haven't tried dinner yet but we will.More
