It was an adventure getting out there. Desolate, dirt roads at dusk and the overall appearance of the restaurant was not appealing. Quite scary actually. It was around 8p, about to be dark and I come into a parking lot, with a big long shack....I did go into what I thought was the main entrance but there was no one up front so I thought I was at the wrong entrance. Went around to the side and it's the kitchen. The "staff" said they were open and to go around up front. I went back to where I started off and someone was there to greet me. I was nervous because I didn't see anyone and even though it is a Covid pandemic I wanted to see that other people were eating there. After confirming they were open, the waitress invited me to come inside and take a look. I got the kids to come inside too. There was an odor that my 5 year old couldn't help commenting on. It reminded me of an old house/old basement smell. There were 2 other groups inside eating so I felt a little better. Although we ultimately decided to order our food to go, the waitress helped me feel at ease. She gave us some snacks while we waited and Chef Jerome came out to greet us. He was friendly and kind. The seafood was good, although the french fries weren't seasoned at all. (FYI for anyone who cares this is a black owned establishment. Also the ride out to an unknown area like this can be very scary. I would have gone earlier so I wasn't riding in the dark but thankfully there was nothing that happened that made me feel unsafe).More

I thought when I say the exterior of this "diner"it would prove to be an adventure, I WAS WRONG! This restaurant is not inviting on the inside and just plain horrible. There is no ceiling just insulation covered with net. The walls are papered with photos...of "people". OK definitely bring your own untensils if you do decide to take a chance. THE FOOD was horrible and we had everythng they had from shrimp, fish, ribs and steak. Horrible! Cold and mine was just not edible. The prices are really outrageous for the what you are served. I would rather go to Popeyes for their shrimp and fried food and supposedly delicious chicken sandwich.More

Nothing about this place was good. When you pull in you drive on old carpet that looks like they pulled out of abandoned houses. The restaurant stinks when you walk in. The food was horribly overpriced and not good at all. My wife got stuffed...shrimp and there was only 3 with mediocre crab cakes on top. I got the 34$ gator tail dinner with barely a handful of meat. I didn’t even make it back to hwy 17 before stopping to puke. Will never be back and will be sure to tell everyone I know to stay away.More

We've been expanding our culinary adventures beyond our local area & this place was highly recommended to us. So we said hey why not? Drove the hour to get there and even after checking it out online & from what others said, we were still...like, what have we got ourselves into? Well, we had a great time and great food! Our server Dee was fabulous. Chef Jerome visited our table several times and even brought out Maxine his parrot to end the night. Best hush puppies! Perfect light breading on our grouper, shrimp, scallops, oysters. Grilled salmon also very good. Potato salad and Mac and cheese delicious. No bar beyond beer & wine. So much food that our leftovers to take home were more than some places entrees! "Trust your Chef" is a true statement!More

A positive was the staff and owner were welcoming and nice. We ordered the wheelchair platter for our group and beyond the fried shrimp being good, the rest of the platter was awful. Why on earth would a restaurant, within 5 mins of the Atlantic...ocean, serve Tilapia as the fish on a $68 platter? Fries were not hot, potato salad was not cooked enough, potatoes were too firm. BBQ was not good and was just a couple of beef ribs...gotta be pork ribs IMO! I am certain the BBQ sauce was homemade and not very good. Decor was funky but the smell of old carpet was not ideal for a meal.More

This is without a doubt one of life's memorable moments. As we pull in the "carpeted" parking lot, there comes a gentleman directing us into a space, as we get out of the car he immediately introduces himself as "Chef Jerome". From that point forward...the hospitality never missed a beat. The wait staff is as accommodating and friendly, we wanted for nothing. As for the food well there is a menu, with seafood, meat, sides etc. But the suggested entrees are the Wheelchair "Trust your Chef" meals, they come in a variety of sizes as in "for 2, 4, 6 or more people". Ours consisted of an abundance (we ate hardy and brought home almost as much as we ate) of fried fish and shrimp, a slab of ribs, hushpuppies, slaw, potato salad. All of which was prepared perfectly. This is truly an experience that you will never forget. Oops! Almost forgot, the lemon pie is a great ending to your meal.More

My wife and I were driving north from Florida and found the Old School. I can not put into words the drive to find this place. Old back roads which lead to a dirt road and then the Diner building itself which is beyond words....DON"T be put off by the appearance, this is a gem of a place. The walk in, the items on the wall, its all so original and fun its just outrageous. Now the food..... the excellent food. I had fried shrimp and it was some of the best I have ever had. The fried chicken was great also. The chef came out and introduced himself to all and told us we are "all family now". What a great experience and atmosphere. Take the extra time off RT 95 and experience America, like you should. GO HERE!More

The best part of travelling is finding awesome restaurants that you'll never find anywhere else. It's like going back time & again to your favorite mom & pop place in your home town. Old School Diner has the perfectly seasoned Shrimp Creole & fried whole...flounder --my first meal there. Unlike the predictable chains, this place makes you happy you drove 8 miles east of the Harris Neck National Widlife Refuge half way between Savannah, Ga. & Jacksonville. Chef Jerome thank you & we will be back with more of our friends & family.More

We loved loved loved the Old School Diner!!! From the warm greeting when we arrived (and we were wondering if we were in the right place!) to the friendly engaging servers to the incredible bounty of delicious food, we were totally knocked out. This restaurant...is one in a million. If there is any way you can get there- get there! You will be as happy as we are.More
