Stopped off for a quick Sunday lunch whilst using the N8 Veurne - Ieper road as a pleasant alternative to the A26 via Lille on the way to Germany; and we loved the individuality of this carefully tended small town pub / restaurant. Superb beers...(of course), and excellent food, impressively presented, including seafood salad, from a Flemish-only menu - but the friendly owner cheerfully provided necessary translations. A delightfully neat town centre too, around the church opposite. Strongly recommended to passing Brits wanting to get into a Continental frame of mind 50km in from the Channel ports.More

Our group stumbled upon Het With Paard on our way to Ypres, and boy were we lucky. We were greeted by owner Benny Godderis and he made our lunch absolutely delightful. Seated in a cozy courtyard, we picked two items from the menu that made...our day. The cheese sampler was deemed incredible in the selection, freshness and amount of cheese dished out. I ordered the lasagna, which, in my long life, was the best I've ever had. I couldn't finish the dish, and kept it for the following day, which was a reminder to me how good it was. Well worth visiting.More

A friend and I recently went to Belgium on a bike / beer trip. We found this place by chance on one of our rides. As beer was a big part of the tour, this turned out to be ideal. The host, was knowledgeable and...warm. We ended up coming back every day to see him. Absolutely fantastic place. Can't wait to come back and see him again, Thanks for everything.More

If you are tired of the same old menus in the Grote Markt in Iepers, as we are, go to Het Witte Paard. It is worth the drive (20 mins). The food is outstanding. We had a vis pannetje (hot yummy Belgian fish dish) and...a cold fish salad that had way more fish than salad. The owners are wonderfully kind and they take pride in their product. This is now going to be a regular spot for us to take dinner or lunch. We cannot say enough about this place.More

We stopped for a drink, they brew their own beer: blond and dark, very nice. Very friendly people who run their business with pleasure. Very charming and cosy interior. Chosen as most cosy pub in 2008 and they earn this award! Will come back for...sure!More

We like to come to this place, in summer or winter, in fact any season. The owner who most of the time also does the serving is quite a character. I can imagine that not everyone can savour this but we quite like his sense...of humour. The food is always nice and hearty. You can feel it is prepared with love. So this is a place always to return to.More
