We visited the t’Vleterhof for lunch after visiting the abbey Saint Sixtus. The restaurant is located in the genuine Flemish countryside, on a farm, about 7 minutes drive from the abbey. Hence, the nearby surroundings are farmland, cows, horses and fields. This is a restaurant operated by a family and the feel is familiar and totally local. If you are looking for really genuine Flemish food, this is the place. The food is well cooked, rich, and traditional. Don’t expect the staff to speak anything but Flemish, however French works (reluctantly) but only very little English. We had carbonade and “rundstong” (casserole with cows tongue). Very good, felt like the right choice on this kind of restaurant. They serve Flemish beer on tap. The prices in general are a bit high for a quite modest place like this, we paid about 16 or 17 Euros for our dishes. The service was friendly but a bit slow.

service was a bit slow , and the tomato / shrimp starter at the ' day price' was far too expensive.. However the ribs were good and meaty

t' Vleterhof is a great little restaurant in the heart of Hop Land, very near to Poperinge, In De Vrede and Struise brewery. it was recommended to me several years ago when another favorite restaurant was closed on a particular evening. The menu is basically Flemish preparations. It is a very cozy environment, the staff are wonderful, the service great and the food even better. I always try to visit each time I am in the area.

I think this place is really for the locals as most people in Belgium I talk to are not familiar with it, but if you want traditional Flemish food at a decent price, friendly and efficient wait staff and great owners, then this is your place. It is about 10 minutes from St. Sixtus Abbaye, offers outdoor seating (if you understand that this is horse and cow country) and fantastic food. I always order the ribs when I visit. They are dry rubbed and slow cooked over an open fire and are excellent. I recommend their salads, steaks and most everything on the menu.

Ideal for booking a covered wagon tour with friends/colleagues. We started with an extensive breakfast at Nancy & Geert van 't Vleterhof. Then a covered wagon ride to the abbey of Westvleteren. We could enjoy the beautiful terrace of the abbey in peace and quiet. Geert rightly stayed with the horses. Rarely have I seen such a person who pursues his profession/hobby with passion and drive. Then we enjoyed the beautiful landscape and Geert's stories/experiences. Once back at the farm we had a Breughel meal there. In the afternoon, back on the covered wagon for a relaxing trip through the Westhoek. This with two stops. After the covered wagon ride we ended our adventure with a dinner (bone-in ham with fries) from the regular, honest kitchen. We first had an extensive aperitif there. We were really impressed by the whole thing. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, stops, covered wagon ride…. unique formula brought to you by people with a passion for their profession! Nancy & Geert + team, well done!
