Sigh… this place used to have the absolute best Smokey ribs on the planet! The ribs and pork were tender and meaty but what really set them apart and made LONG drives worthwhile, was that they were incredibly SMOKEY! Sadly, sometime during the past couple...years the new owners made a conscious decision to change the process. No more Smokey ribs… as far as I could tell they might as well have cooked them in an oven. Also as someone else has pointed out, they no longer have that wonderful lean and textured “pulled” pork. Now it’s just plain old meh chopped and sigh… not Smokey at all. Jim, where are you??? We need you back friend!!More
We've been eating here since 2013 when Jim and Donna were the original owners. When we heard that they were interested in selling, I asked Donna about it. She said that they would never sell to anyone who would change the way their BBQ was...prepared and served. Well, reality has arrived at Jim's Smokin' Que.
I noticed over the summer that the pulled pork was more watery and a little more salty. Now the pulled pork and brisket are all chopped instead of pulled. This makes for very dry BBQ without a lot of smoky flavor. Also, the prices have been raised twice since the new owners have arrived! You can tell that all of these changes have make an impact. The Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend should have had people lined up to the highway but there was NO line and lots of empty tables at 11:45 am!
Sorry, but we will no longer find the best BBQ at the Smokin' Que. !!More
I travel to Jim’s weekly and have had everything on the menu. Never a disappointment. The food is always fresh and taste great. Some of the best bbq I have ever had. I drive 45 mins to get there and I would not unless I...loved the place. Staff is courteous and friendly. Lunch line moves fast and it’s worth it. JVMMore
We discovered Jim’s years ago and as a foodie, I was immediately in love. The pulled pork was my go-to for many trips. Tender, lean and SMOKEY!!! Then one day I went with a group who were all getting the ribs. I never was much...of a “rib person” with just occasionally getting ribs from Sonny’s or Rib Country. So anyway, as I was thoroughly enjoying my pulled pork one of the friends shoved a rib on my plate, insisting that I try it. I bit into that meaty, tender, juicy and SMOKEY, SMOKEY, SMOKEY… rib and… son, I thought I’d died and gone to heaven! As soon as possible a week or so later we returned and I anxiously waited in line, hoping they wouldn’t run out before my turn, and finally ordered my own personal half-rack of heaven. (Note that Jim’s half-rack is like a full rack at some other places). Thereafter, we continued to go whenever we were in the area. When we heard Jim was selling out it was a bitter blow but we kept going and it seemed for a while that nothing had changed. THEN… we began to note that the wonderful infusion of smoke in the ribs was disappearing. The ribs were still meaty, tender and juicy BUT, most of that wonderful smoke flavor was gone. Used to be that when you left Jim’s, your fingers kept that Smokey fragrance for a long time, reminding you of the wonderful culinary experience. Alas, those times seem to be gone as you can now actually wash it away with soap and water. So, nowadays we still go there but I’m mostly back on pulled pork with only an occasional rib order just to reminisce, whimper, sniff… on just how truly wonderfully SMOKEY they used to be.More
They have changed the low and slow recipes unfortunately, this does not taste anywhere near as good as it did when Jim and Donna owned it and were doing the cooking. PLEASE go back to cooking the way Jim and Donna did it. The ribs...tasted like they had a pickling spice rub on them, pickling spice is great on corned beef, NOT on ribs!More
This has been our favorite restaurant for 7 years. Even after the sale of business things seemed the same. Today’s visit was a miss. Smaller ribs, less fries and beans not up to usual standards. I hope this was just a bad day.. not even...near as busy as usual.. maybe there is a reason?More
If you like BBQ, Jim's is the best place in this area. BUT, be prepared for items you like might be sold out after you stood in line for 30 or more minutes. There is no table service except to deliver your order. Standing in...line with other people breathing down your neck is unpleasant regardless how good the food might be. I like the smoked turkey breast sandwich and some of the sides. The original owners sold the restaurant a year or so ago. Has it changed? You decide.More
