This place is amazing! Better than expected. I have been wanting to come here for years and found the perfect opportunity to go for magical dining month! The staff are great and make you feel welcomed. Special shout out to Muna, the bartender that took...care of me and the hostess Kara who is a great conversationalist. They are awesome at customer service! The owner was so sweet as well and made sure everyone was having a great experience. All I can say is order the Hamachi Kama (chargrilled Yellowtail). Once you order that, you know that anything you order on the menu will be good. It honestly was the best yellow tail I have ever had. Fresh, flavourful, and chargrilled just a way a fish should be. The food and service has me coming back whenever I get a Japanese food craving!More

We visited here on Labor Day weekend. The service was outstanding (Thanks Ray!). The owner was extremely nice and took the time to visit with us a few times to make sure we were enjoying ourselves. Our sushi and Ramen was excellent and the atmosphere...was very nice. Will definitely go again.More

I have to say, I love sushi and just asian cuisine in general. Normally I go to Kabooki as it is very close to where I work. However, I did some research online and saw overwhelmingly positive reviews for Umi so I figured I would...give it a try. First bad sign: I went online and made reservations for my party of 2 in advance. When I went online to reserve I was asked if I would like to be seated indoors or outdoors. It was cold that day and I also knew it might rain so of course I requested indoor seating. Upon arriving, the hostess informed me that they were unable to seat me inside because they "lacked the space" even though my request for indoor seating had already been approved. So, we were taken to our table outdoors but as I look through the window that we were seated by, I could see numerous empty tables inside which is partly why I was so confused. I had specifically requested to be indoors and was told that I would be when I made the reservation. I will say the hostess did everything she could to help. Initially they had us near the edge of the awning so the rain was hitting us a little and she moved us to a table that was right up against the wall/window. She also brought a heat lamp near the table to help warm us up. The next issue I had was the server. I think there was some sort of miscommunication with the staff because when he arrived (10 minutes after we had already been sitting there) he said that he wasn't even aware that he had a new table outside. So, we place our order and he walks off. About 10 minutes later he comes back and informs me that the entree I ordered, the Hamachi Kama entree, was unable to be made as they had run out of Hamachi. I'm not sure why it took so long for him to return and tell me they were out of Hamachi because that seems like something that should have already been mentioned to me before I placed my order. I was already annoyed at this point but I said that's fine and ordered the Korean style Chirashi instead. When the food comes out I notice that I was brought the Japanese style Chirashi which is about $7 more than the Korean chirashi and does not come with the spicy Korean sauce. Now, I would like to end this review by saying that the food was by no means bad. I was disappointed that they didn't have my first choice and then slightly annoyed that I was brought the wrong entree after re-ordering. However, the quality of the fish and sushi rice was superb. I haven't been back since because of how disappointed I was with my first experience but I may make a trip back and give it another try.More

I visited Umi Japanese Restaurant again and to my delight they exceeded my expectations for creative dishes, remarkable service, and the best staff that I have experienced in the area. Unique decor and original artwork decorate this restaurant and I am always met with a...smile and welcome back from the owners who can give me the whole story on some amazing pieces of art and antiques that are displayed. I would highly recommend trying Umi for that special dining experience.More

Went to Umi for dinner on Valentine’s Day. There were 4 couples ahead of me that had not been greeted by the hostess. The restaurant was busy but a hello I will be with you shortly would have sufficed. After about 15-20 minute wait hostess...final greets customers. Meanwhile line is building up to the point that the line is out the door. We were finally seated at the bar which I would have much rather sit at a table but due to how busy the establishment was we sat at bar. I did have reservations so I was not a walk in. After about 20 minutes of being seated a waiter final took our drink order. Drinks came out fast and our food order was taking. I kid you not .. it took 60 minutes 1 hr for our rolls to come out along with shrimp tempura. Everything we asked about it the waiter said that food was coming out shortly. People next to us said they waited 45 minutes. The shrimp tempura was cold. The waitress waiting on people next to us gave them free apps and salad because of how long food was taking. We were offered nothing. An older Lady who looked to have been maybe an owner came to check up on couples seated to both sides of us but never said a word to us. We had originally ordered pork belly but it never came and waiter assured us it was on the way. It never came. Finally we told him take it off our ticket.. paid and left. I definitely do not recommend this restaurant.More

The flavors, the smells, and the food! All is wonderful still at Umi. The favored dish this past weekend was the Pork Belly! The taste was scrumptious, although very fatty. The smells from an adjoining table for the edaname beens was almost better, as they...were cooked in bisket basted sauce. Next time, for sure, it will be my dish! Everything was amazing regarding flavors, although the sushi fell apart a bit too easily! Chopsticks just didn't work, so it was fingers all the way with the sushi! Basically, just about everything is very good here, although a bit pricey for the sizes of some of the items. It is fine with me, as the food is always so well prepared. Wines were selected, and they were just as yummy! Of course, we will return!More

food, but this if overall. I am giving a 1 star solely on the rude manager and experience I received. I order a glass of wine, “house wine” to be exact. I asked the waitress how is a glass of wine $20. And it is...house wine. She said a rang in 9 ounce glass for everyone at the table. She assumed I automatically wanted the biggest glass which is the most expensive. Which is not right, I told her no I ordered a house glass of wine which means I want the cheap wine I should’ve been asked or told that I was getting the 9 ounces versus just assuming that’s what I wanted. She apologized and was super sweet about it and said that she would talk to her manager, then the manager comes and says sorry absolutely not I cannot do anything about it it is already rung up. I found it very condescending and rude, as the leader of this restaurant to act this way towards your customers. There is always something you can do about it. And even though the sushi was good, it was mediocre, the atmosphere was OK. The waitress was nice and did her best, but the manager I think is what just sets me off. You are supposed to be the face of this restaurant which means you are supposed to help make your customers feel welcome. And I did not feel this at all. Finale, just be prepared to spend a lot of money for sh** wine and mediocre sushi. If you want to do that, at least go somewhere else where the service is better.More

Food was of average quality however I feel you pay more than what the food is worth. the service/waiter was very good however the food took a little longer than expected. I had a miso ramen and it was okay. I was a little surprised...that they did not have any togarashi pepper? A little surprising...More

Loved the sushi was just so super fresh and imo the best in orlando area hands down. They are super creative with different fusion tastes and can’t wait to see what else they come up with.

I absolutely love Umi! They have a unique drink selection and they now offer a tasting for two for $75! I tried the robota sampler and it’s the keto diet dream. The robata pork belly was definitely my favorite. The jelly sake is also awesome...and a unique drink if you’ve never triedMore

Dear Douglas, We do not offer a menu section of gluten free, but there are options on the menu that you can still eat. Sashimi and the Robata grilled items will be your best options, as well as select hot & cold plates... More
