Why is it when a new chef comes in they change everything? If isn’t broke Don’t fix it. The short Ribs looked great but incredibly bland! $28 on top of that.

Nice little place that serves Asian/Japanese fusion type dishes. The server was courteous and provided recommendations on what to order. First, I had the miso soup which was standard in it's flavor. Next came the tuna tataki which lacked any flavor. The brussel sprouts which...came with the dish provided any sense of taste to the dish. After that we had the pan seared gyoza which was decent. If you like sashimi I'd recommend the Japanese style chirashi which came with four different fishes (3 pieces each), sushi rice and pickled vegetables. The portion was good for the price. My partner had the bibimbap bulgogi which was very tasty. Overall we had a good meal.More

One of the best Japanese restaurants I’ve dined at. I had the Lemon Kiss roll, which is vegan. In the roll was roasted cauliflower, avocado, carrot, spinach, and asparagus. It was rolled in soy paper and came with sesame dressing. I also had a Ramen...bowl with miso broth. It came with bamboo shoots, bean sprouts, egg, corn, and baby bok choy. I decided to have them take the egg out. Quality and quantity was excellent. The service was friendly and superb! On a separate note, I witnessed the manager and/or owner, talk to one of the servers in a condescending tone. First, don’t speak to your colleague in that way, even though you may be “the boss.” Second, you never know when a guest in your establishment may witness your behavior.More

We dined here for half Magical Dining- half regular menu. The ambiance was very relaxed and comfortable while still being romantic and stylish. The service was friendly, prompt, and efficient. All staff encountered were very nice. Chirashi was very tender and good with the pieces...taste of melt in the mouth. The magical dining not only had the, of course, dessert, appetizer, and a main course but also an additional miso soup and ginger salad. The ginger salad was very tasty and even had tomatoes in it. The appetizer on the magical dining was the fire fly roll. It was delicious. The main course of the salmon on the magical dining was unbelievable tender and tasty. The dessert of the day which was some kind of Chantilly cream with mango was so delicate and delightful. How have I not been here before?! We will be back.More

One of the best sushi restaurants in Orlando! I have been here many times and the service and food are always impeccable . But a group recently went for the Bite 30 experience, and they outdid themselves . Most restaurants o ltp have a 3...course meal for Bite 30, but Umi had a 4th course so we could sample appetizers, rolls, entrees and desert . Everything on the menu was amazing , and the owner even sent us a complimentary dish ! Highly recommend this place for any type of occasion!More

This was our second time here from a looong way off!! Thats how much we loved it!! Started with theMiso soup, Had the Tuna Tataki, WHole Grilled Squid, and The tuna by tuna sushi which were all excellent! However, the next time I would try...a different sushi, as found it bit too spicy! Another thing on my wishlist to try is the wagyu beed and the godzilla sushi! The creme Brulee was divine, maybe a bit on the sweeter side for some, but we loved it! The Servers we had from Maria to everyone else, we re so so super friendly and courteous, a big shout out to all of them! So great service! Decent value and one thing I thought was exceptional is that since I was travelling with my 84 year old mum, I asked for a single table not very close to other tables, and they very sweetly obliged! not all restaurants are so co-operative! We travelled 20-25 mins from our hotel ( and an expensive uber ride) both times to get there! But well worth it!!More

While in Winter Park for a six-night get-away, I ate dinner at Umi four nights. They have the best raw fish and shellfish of any Japanese restaurant in which I have eaten, including many in Japan. Kudos to whoever does their buying. The sushi chefs...are excellent, well-trained, knowledgeable of their product, and engaged with customers at the sushi bar; I enjoyed talking with Michael, Trung, Anthony and Simon among others. The servers were all excellent and attentive. I highly recommend the Crunchy Tuna Tataki, Hamachi Chimichurri, scallop sashimi, uni nigiri, toro sashimi and nigiri, ikura nigiri. The ceviche was good but was too big and too much of the same thing. Be sure to ask to have the sashimi cut thin; otherwise they do it American-style. All the sauces were innovative and excellent. It would be great if they offered more items lightly done on the robata grill. If I lived in Winter Park, I would eat here every night.More

We sat outside and enjoyed the excellent weather and people watching with our dog. Our pretty server Lulu brought our pet a bowl of water and even though it was very busy she was quite a fast and took good care of us. I got...two orders of spicy tuna sushi and my wife got her usual tango mango. We also ordered a godzilla roll which we both shared. (The only downside was the seaweed salad which tasted old and very dry). My wife was cold so she ordered a glass of hot sake and unfortunately loved it, which means this will be a regular addition at our future meals here! I am not a big sweets eater but Lulu brought us out a dish of creme brûlée and for the first time ever, I loved it. Compliments to the chef! Park Avenue is a safe, chic upscale area with plenty of restaurants to choose from, boutiques, shops, bars, sweets, cigar bar, coffee shops, and even has a sun rail station here. There are a couple of parking garages available so use them or try the side streets, parking on the avenue itself can be a little tight. My advice is to make reservations if you visit on the weekends.More

This place is amazing! Better than expected. I have been wanting to come here for years and found the perfect opportunity to go for magical dining month! The staff are great and make you feel welcomed. Special shout out to Muna, the bartender that took...care of me and the hostess Kara who is a great conversationalist. They are awesome at customer service! The owner was so sweet as well and made sure everyone was having a great experience. All I can say is order the Hamachi Kama (chargrilled Yellowtail). Once you order that, you know that anything you order on the menu will be good. It honestly was the best yellow tail I have ever had. Fresh, flavourful, and chargrilled just a way a fish should be. The food and service has me coming back whenever I get a Japanese food craving!More

I have to say, I love sushi and just asian cuisine in general. Normally I go to Kabooki as it is very close to where I work. However, I did some research online and saw overwhelmingly positive reviews for Umi so I figured I would...give it a try. First bad sign: I went online and made reservations for my party of 2 in advance. When I went online to reserve I was asked if I would like to be seated indoors or outdoors. It was cold that day and I also knew it might rain so of course I requested indoor seating. Upon arriving, the hostess informed me that they were unable to seat me inside because they "lacked the space" even though my request for indoor seating had already been approved. So, we were taken to our table outdoors but as I look through the window that we were seated by, I could see numerous empty tables inside which is partly why I was so confused. I had specifically requested to be indoors and was told that I would be when I made the reservation. I will say the hostess did everything she could to help. Initially they had us near the edge of the awning so the rain was hitting us a little and she moved us to a table that was right up against the wall/window. She also brought a heat lamp near the table to help warm us up. The next issue I had was the server. I think there was some sort of miscommunication with the staff because when he arrived (10 minutes after we had already been sitting there) he said that he wasn't even aware that he had a new table outside. So, we place our order and he walks off. About 10 minutes later he comes back and informs me that the entree I ordered, the Hamachi Kama entree, was unable to be made as they had run out of Hamachi. I'm not sure why it took so long for him to return and tell me they were out of Hamachi because that seems like something that should have already been mentioned to me before I placed my order. I was already annoyed at this point but I said that's fine and ordered the Korean style Chirashi instead. When the food comes out I notice that I was brought the Japanese style Chirashi which is about $7 more than the Korean chirashi and does not come with the spicy Korean sauce. Now, I would like to end this review by saying that the food was by no means bad. I was disappointed that they didn't have my first choice and then slightly annoyed that I was brought the wrong entree after re-ordering. However, the quality of the fish and sushi rice was superb. I haven't been back since because of how disappointed I was with my first experience but I may make a trip back and give it another try.More

I visited Umi Japanese Restaurant again and to my delight they exceeded my expectations for creative dishes, remarkable service, and the best staff that I have experienced in the area. Unique decor and original artwork decorate this restaurant and I am always met with a...smile and welcome back from the owners who can give me the whole story on some amazing pieces of art and antiques that are displayed. I would highly recommend trying Umi for that special dining experience.More

Went to Umi for dinner on Valentine’s Day. There were 4 couples ahead of me that had not been greeted by the hostess. The restaurant was busy but a hello I will be with you shortly would have sufficed. After about 15-20 minute wait hostess...final greets customers. Meanwhile line is building up to the point that the line is out the door. We were finally seated at the bar which I would have much rather sit at a table but due to how busy the establishment was we sat at bar. I did have reservations so I was not a walk in. After about 20 minutes of being seated a waiter final took our drink order. Drinks came out fast and our food order was taking. I kid you not .. it took 60 minutes 1 hr for our rolls to come out along with shrimp tempura. Everything we asked about it the waiter said that food was coming out shortly. People next to us said they waited 45 minutes. The shrimp tempura was cold. The waitress waiting on people next to us gave them free apps and salad because of how long food was taking. We were offered nothing. An older Lady who looked to have been maybe an owner came to check up on couples seated to both sides of us but never said a word to us. We had originally ordered pork belly but it never came and waiter assured us it was on the way. It never came. Finally we told him take it off our ticket.. paid and left. I definitely do not recommend this restaurant.More
