An iconic restaurant along Dixie Highway not far from Forrest Hills Blvd. It has served the community faithfully for many years. If you like authentic Cuban food, this is the place to come to. It has been a number of years since our last visit....Don Ramon’s of 2022 did not disappoint. We were visiting during lunch. The doors open up at. 11:00. By 12:00 the place was crowded. There are plenty of painted pictures and photographs on the walls. It adds a bit of ambiance of being in Havana. Tasty authentic Cuban bread came to the table first. It was lightly buttered, but so very good. I could have a meal alone with that pressed bread. One of my friends loved the Picadillo. The ground beef in Cuban gravy was made perfectly. Most of the party ordered Black Beans, Sweet Plantains and Yellow Rice. I did have our waitress put a side of cut onions for my Black Beans. I had the Shrimp Creole. It was tasty and the shrimp were done just right. I would indeed order this dish again. My other friend ordered the Garlic Shrimp and liked it too. One of my friends did say the pork was rather dry and it separated in “strings.” My friend would not order this dish again. They were pleased with everything else though. Easily the best Cuban around! Have been coming for 21 years and it is consistently the best food around. I get the #1 with black beans and rice and sweet plantains and if I could eat this meal every day I would! Service is fantastic...and atmosphere is super homey and cozy!More

Went for Sunday Lunch today and this review is very mixed: 5 stars for Beef Empanadas w/chimichurie (at least I think that's what it was- garlic, oil, chopped cilantro and citrus juice) sauce and 5 stars for the delicious Flan but I had a chicken...breast and it was dry, tasteless and over breaded, plantains which were good and black beans which were also tasteless. The breaded fried chicken breast and black beans did not seem to have ANY seasoning at all. My husband had what seemed to be chicken carnitas (fried chunks of chicken with sautéed onions) and he liked them but also found the rice, beans and plantains dull. It's a shame because we have eaten at Don Ramon's so many times and had great food so maybe it was our choices....I am willing to own that. In the past we have loved the lechon and other dishes. Our server was wonderful (as their employees seem always to be outstanding- at every location) and the restaurant is older but very well maintained and spotless! It is a charming place to eat- very comfortable and lots of atmosphere carried back from the best days of Cuba.More

We really enjoyed our dinner here! It’s very cute in a vintage type of Cuban vibe. The churasco, black bean soup & garlic shrimp were fantastic! Service was a bit slow... but overall great food.

I like that it's run by husband and wife for over 25 years. Private parking. I celebrated my birthday in the private room, and I was glad the menu was large enough (soups, meats, liver, seafood, even lamb, etc.) to please everybody. It was cozy...and lots of fun with live music. We couldn't help it, and started dancing LOL I took my parents to dinner one Sunday, and they had a piano lady there. It was relaxing. We had cocktails, enjoy our Zarzuela (seafood creole), and of course desserts! PS They also cater.More

I had dinner at this restaurant with friends and did not like it at all. First of all, the decor is old, dark, dusty and outdated. Even though The restaurant was not packed, it took over 30 minutes to be served our food. We were...advised that an appetizer we ordered could not be served because the cook could not do it right! Our waiter barely spoke English so it was hard to understand what he was trying to explain. Everything in my plate was cold, the steak tasteless and the highlight of my rice was that is was yellow! My friend ordered pork and it was also cold. It was pricey for the quality of food and extremely slow service. I do NOT recommend this place.More

After a visit to the Norton Museum, we proceeded south on Dixie Highway to Don Ramons’s restaurants for a very late lunch. This family run restaurant was packed with a diverse clientele. We ordered skit steak.. the juicy, tender steak was accompanied by perfectly prepared...plantains, a dirty rice(rice and black beans. ..a classic side. Our tea and sofa drinks were replenish in a quick and friendly manner. We splurged and decided to enjoy the house flan Try it. Delicious. The whole meal was very reasonable, our waiter pleasant and helpful. It is worth a visit. Several evenings there is live entertainment. Parking is adjacent to the restaurant.More

Less than a third of the tables had guests when we arrived and yet it took 10 minutes for our waiter to show up, 25 minutes for bagged Caesar Salad to arrive and another 35 minutes for bland and unattractive entrees. This gave us lots...of time to note that other guests were having similarly poor service. The sides of mixed rice were the best part of the meal, A medium steak was what everyone else would call well done and the pork was dry and tough. By the time the entrees arrived we had already decided we would never return. Thankfully they had live music to distract us and the soloist was terrific.More

It's one of the local Cuban chain restaurants in the area. There was live music and constant people coming and going. I tried the combination with chicken, steak, and port with rice and beans on a side. The portion was so big that I could...not finish it. Everything tasted good, just the right amount of flavors and spices. On the other hand, the steak that I ordered medium came out a bit over-cooked with no pink in the center whatsoever. Besides that everything was good. The mojito was excellent, don't miss it.More

A cuban at the hotel recommended this restaurant, his favorite Cuban restaurant. We visited for Lunch and thought the prices were good. Service was friendly and fast. There were not too many people at the time. Lechon was good. The best was the Stuffed Plantain...appetizer.More

We arrived this past Saturday night for what we thought we be an awesome cuban dinner. We, three adults and two children, arrived here and we were sat immediately. Beautiful atmosphere and ambience with a nice flare of the latin culture. As we sat, our...server(a female, did not get her name), came over after several minutes to take our drink order. I should have known this was the start of it as she appeared annoyed to be waiting on us. She then went to get our drinks. We browsed the menu and all of came up with our decisions. After we received our drinks, we placed our dinner orders. The kids ordered yellow rice and beans with each wanting a different soup, one black bean and one chicken soup. The wife ordered a cuban sandwich, I ordered the Lechon Asado(roasted pork) with white rice and pink beans and a bowl of Caldo Gellego (spanish white bean soup) and my buddy ordered Churrasco, rice and beans and Tostones(fried plaintains). Well let us start here. Everyone around us was getting their cuban bread prior to dinner but us, so we asked another server for some bread at which time he gladly did because our server never brought it the first time. With an empty basket on our table, she finally brought another basket of bread after we asked again! Here was the dinner issue, the kids never received their soups but were ok with it until the check reflected it, addressed and removed. My buddies tostones were great but the Churrasco was bland. My wifes cuban sandwich was great! My meal, I ordered pink beans, received black beans, I dealt with it. I had to ask for my white bean soup as it never came until I was into my dinner. So I have no clue what the issue was but that wasn't the end. After our meals, I ordered flan and a cappuccino, which the server repeated back to me. Guess what, flan came but no cappuccino! Unbelievable! We were done with this poor service and no attention to detail. The check arrived, of course I had to correct the soup issue that the kids never received and what was hard to deceiver was the check contents. Of course the cappuccino was not on it but think we corrected everything else. We left so frustrated and annoyed as we watched other servers take care of their customers. Maybe she had a bad day, but you shouldn't make it ours! Will not be back!More
