Dine here with the elite class, but we were here just for breakfast.

This restaurant is located in the swanky Kimpton Hotel & Spa. A room here will set you back at least $600-700 per night. It does have an ocean view though (we were staying in a hotel a few blocks away with an ocean view for $119/night) as does the restaurant. Which is why we came here for breakfast...for the view. There is valet parking only on the hotel grounds, so you will need to find street parking if you don't want to pay. We parked two blocks away and walked over. When you enter opposite the hotel lobby across the parking area, you find that it is one floor up. The restaurant/bar overlooks the ocean and it is right on the beach with the water a mere 40 feet away. So yes, the view is very nice and they have an outdoor seating area. The morning we were here though - January 9, 2020 - it was chilly and windy. The hostess seated us and said our server would be Richard, though our server was actually Julie. I think "Richard" was too snobby to want to serve us. Service was fine, and of course we had the enjoyment of HUGE dump trucks hauling sand back and forth in our view. ... apparently trying to restore the beach after a recent hurricane. Coffee here is fine but not that great at $4/cup. I had the Steak & Egg Hash breakfast which was curiously cooked in a tiny round pan and it retained that shape (see my photo). It tasted fine, not the best. My daughter had the BLT Benedict, which she said tasted somewhat off and weird with the fried green tomatoes. My wife had the Coconut French Toast, Challah bread with coconut is not a good pairing, ugh, but she ate it. Overall, this mediocre breakfast cost us $67 (3 people) not including the tip. I guess we did expect the cost, but did think we may have had higher quality food with a better chef. We paid extra for the view and dining like pretentious snobs for an hour.

Fantastic Fish

Had a really great dinner from Cobalt, considering it had to be take out due to pandemic. I was pleasantly surprised. The fish was so fresh and delicious. My husband really liked his steak. With 20% off steaks it made it more affordable. It’s not the cheapest restaurant and had a limited menu but I don’t want to judge it too harshly since they are doing the best they can under difficult circumstances. I’m sure if we had eaten there with the full-service dining experience it would’ve seemed of greater value. The chefs seem to know their way around the kitchen. And the views are great: hard to find oceanfront dining. Like them on social media and help them out during this challenging time. Bonus - great wine prices right now!

Great Breakfast. Avoid anything else.

Had a great breakfast on their beachside exterior deck. Good service, great food, and at a fair price with a delicious view. Figured we could replicate the experience for dinner. I figured wrong. There was a sea of open tables but we still had to wait a while to be seated. Then they tried to stick us in a dark corner, inhibiting the ocean view and breezes. They agreed to move us, but moved us to a table nearer to the beach but even darker. No lights, not even a candle on the table. We were ignored for quite a while, and flagged a waiter down who told us someone would be with us soon. Another fifteen minutes went by without so much as a “hello.” No water, nothing. We threw in the towel at that point and just left. I doubt if anyone working for the restaurant noticed. Here’s what I noticed: at breakfast the wait staff consisted of an older, more experienced crew who collectively seemed to want to be there. At night, it was a decidedly younger crew who appeared disinterested at best, as if they were only there as part of some deal with their parents to have some sort of job in order to be permitted to continue to live rent free.

Beautiful Setting But Doesn't Honor Special Night Promotions

This is a beautiful property with generally good service. My wife, friends and I have frequented this property as we are full time residents of Vero Beach. You pay top dollar for meals, and our dinner experiences have been good. Every now and then we just want appetizers and drinks and to avail ourselves of local specials. Cobalt advertises all day Taco Tuesday's that includes drink specials. However, when you arrive they have no menu to offer you (except for the regular menu) and will not allow you to order before 6:00 PM, even though its advertised to be all day. Its also not stated anywhere in the ad that you are required to sit in the bar area and not oceanside. Since our group was already at Cobalt we ordered, at 5:55 and were charged full price on our drinks and when we ordered our second round at 6:15 (presumably because we arrived prior to 6:00 PM) and were charged full price as well. We were offered the tacos @ $4.00, which were not nearly as good as the El Sid's down the street. We inquired multiple times about Taco Tuesday and got the same response. While we generally enjoy this property, and will be back for the setting, we will avoid dining here in the future. This is clearly a case of "buyer beware". Fortunately, there are many other good choices in Vero.

Two extremely disappointing experiences.

We have eaten here many times and have always had a great dining experience, but these last two were horrible. Waited longer than usual to be seated. Ordered our food and waited about 40 minutes before our waitress said our order was on the way. Fifteen more minutes went by before we got our food. The next day we had the same situation. The waitress said the manager was aware of today's wait and that he was going to something for us. The bill came and nothing was done. In addition, my 3 year old granddaughter got some macaroni noodles with butter and we were charged $ 12, which seemed expensive. When I asked to speak with the manager he told me to get used to this kind of service due to cover and that his workers had to wash their hands for 5 minutes each time they came in our out of the kitchen. We saw right outside the kitchen door and this simply was not true. We saw the wait staff talking and going in and out of the kitchen repeatedly for way less time than that. I feel that this was not the usual customer service that we have had at this restaurant for the past 7 years. Was extremely surprised and disappointed.

No way to treat guests that drove an hour to dine

We arrived at 2:15 on Friday. Told no dining on patio just drinks! Lunch was over and told to head out to the “other “ restaurant which was the pool bar in the middle of a construction site. No more shrimp tacos. Shrimp and grits no more!! New chef and boring menu offerings when they don’t turn five diners away early NO MORE COBALTS FOR IS!!!!

Disappointing

We had friends from Ohio visiting. They wanted to take us out for dinner and wanted to eat outside with an Ocean view. I was disappointed with our last lunch we had there and debated with myself on whether to take a chance. Although these are some of my best friends we also have a business relationship and I knew he was planning on picking up the tab. So before making reservations I went online and checked the menu. I called him and told him that Cobalt is very pricey and told him about my last experience but the the ambiance was great. He wanted to go. My male friend and I got a dish with shrimp and lobster buried in rice. The potion was ample but for $34 I was expecting something really special with a taste that would beg for more. The dish was just okay but I’d never order it again and, of course, it came with no side. My heart of palm salad, $10, was okay. His wife ordered a salad and the crab cake. She enjoyed the salad but did not get the crab cake until everybody else at the table had eaten their food. The waiter was polite each of the three times she asked where the crab cake was. You know, even if the ambiance is hard to beat a third rate restaurant serves better tasting food. Cobalt is mediocre at best. I will not return. There are so many better places in Vero Beach to eat. Like Ocean Grill, The Tides, etc.

Thankfully the food was amazing because the service was embarrassing

I first want to say that the food was absolutely amazing and that our server was terrific but sadly, that's where it ends. When our party first arrived there was a big to do about where to seat us. Yes, we had reservations. They made us hop from one table to another, after being seated, because they had "reserved" the table they sat us at for another party. This was the assistant Manager, Albert, who had us hopping back and forth. Then when our food arrived only half of the table received their food and the other half took over 30 mins to arrive. This is completely unacceptable. Management allowed for the server to take full ownership and accountability for this and offer up no restitution (at first). We knew that this was not our servers fault. We asked to speak with the manager. After another 20 mins to waiting, the manager, Marco, sent the assistant Manager, Albert back over to explain and he offered us a discount. Which is fine, but I still expected to speak to the Manager himself. Who was too busy working the hostess station to deal with customer complaints. After another 20 mins the manager finally came over to off his apologizes and couldn't get out of there fast enough. Once our bill came and our cards were being charged, the assistant manager came back to our table and asked us to leave. I am appalled at this treatment and its truly unfortunate since the food was so delicious. I wish I had read more of the reviews on other sites before selecting this location.

Not one hot dish

I never write reviews but at the price point of this restaurant, a review seems necessary. Took the family here for their last night with us in Vero. Staff is very friendly. View is gorgeous. Signature cocktail was nice. As we had been waiting for our entrees for awhile, we asked how much longer. Was told "a couple of minutes." 20+ minutes later the food was finally served. There was not ONE hot meal in the bunch. My daughter's chicken was dry, dry, dry. Son's $50 steak was requested medium rare, was well done, not a hint of pink at all. My risotto was barely warm, the scallops seared well but again, not hot. Daughter and DIL salmon, again, not warm! Husbands veal chop overcooked, not hot and leftovers only fit for the dog. I will say that the manager, upon asking how everything was, did offer to have dishes re-done but we had an extremely patient 9 month old and it took so long to be served the first time, we just couldn't. Had it been just myself and husband, I guarantee those dishes would have been sent back. It was embarrassing. I would bet those dinners sat under the warmer for 10-15 minutes prior to being served. The kitchen staff should be ashamed sending out food overcooked, dry and barely warm. The atmosphere was nice, listening/watching the ocean. The 3 surprise comped take away desserts was a nice gesture but strange as we were 6 adults and really did not make up for the delayed dinners. The outdoor fire pits were lit while we were waiting for our food (was this the reason for our food delay?) because having that heat waft over us mid-July in Florida makes sense?!?! I don't know. If it wasn't for the hostess and the waitress being personable, it would have been a complete and VERY expensive bust. Very sad, disappointed, and extremely embarrassed.

What a disappointment! The outdoor seating here is right on the beach and beautiful so we wanted to love this place. I’m stunned by the many good reviews because our food was consistently below average. Prices are very high and we are happy to pay for good food, which this wasn’t. We started with a watery and odd version of lobster bisque that was ok, but absolutely not a bisque. The soup was dark, without cream, and tasted like a lobster flavored onion soup base, not one morsel of lobster for $12. After the soup, we waited much too long for our main courses and since we were there for an early weekday lunch, we were among the only ones there. For my main dish, I had a kale and quinoa salad that was served without the dressing, so obviously not tossed in the dressing. The salad components such as beet and avocado were sparse and so finely chopped that the dish was tasteless. My husband got the steak, ordered medium rare, and got a medium well steak served without the chimichurri sauce and with cold potatoes. To be fair, I should mention that our server was very good and the manager did make accommodations. Even with that, it was so bad that we will not return.

Beautiful View Poor Service Poor Food

Server slow, asked preference for food order, completely disregarded. Saw no more than 15 tables eating with a reduced holiday menu yet, runners brought food, wait excruciating. Great cocktails. Tuna poke was so tasteless I brought it home, I’ll give it the wasabi the menu said it had, some ginger and soy. Salad with hearts of palm ok but, only a few tiny pieces of palm, an expensive plate of salad greens and cucumber. Truffle fries good, completely lacking truffle anything! Again expensive French fries. Beautiful view, good cocktails. Food and service no.

Disappointing Venture!

Four of us decided to try Cobalt for dinner, it was a very disappointing venture to say the least. We had reservations for 5:30 but arrived early, we were told that because they were doing shift change, we couldn’t be seated immediately and were invited to wait at the bar or at the fire pit and they would text when our table was ready, after 30 minutes and watching several other patrons being seated, we went back to the hostess stand, they apologized for the mixup and seated us. We ordered additional drinks and an appetizer which were delivered promptly, that was when everything went down hill. Our entrees took 40 minutes to arrive and the dessert we ordered took another 40 minutes. Our server Alicia kept apologizing to us for something that was out of her control. I understand the kitchen being slow when the place was busy, but there were only 12 tables occupied in total. I think this was my last visit to Cobalt!

Great Atmosphere, Excellent Food and wonderful service. Top Drawer

We had made reservations for dinner and upon arrival were offered the choice f outside or inside seating. Initially, we opted for outside and found it rather windy so we were moved inside with no problem; a good start. Upon being seated , we noticed that either the table was high or the seats too low. When Tom, our waiter approached in just a couple of minutes, he explained that many people found that to be the case and he offered and brought us cshions which resolved that problem. He then quickly brought us water and took my drink order. They offer a very good list of wines, whiskeys and more and I chose a better quality bourbon which was served with one large ice ball. We ordered the calamari apetizer which was well prepared and slightly spicy. For mains, my wife ordered the salmon and I had a lobster boil with clams, calamari and mussels. Bot meals wre excelllent. It was my wifes birrthday and a complimentary chocolate dessert was presented to her. Not being a chocolate fan, I opted for a very good Creme Brule which I thoroughly enjoyed.

Upscale with vegan options

Had dinner with friends and really enjoyed both the ambience and the service. Our waiter was very accommodating and ensured all my food restrictions were covered. The tangine is a great vegan and gluten free option. The hearts of palm salad is a wonderful starter. Only call out is Friday night there is music and the bar so it can be quite loud. Would recommend this as a nice spot for a couples/friends evening.

Great service and fabulously fresh and delicious food is what we get every time we go to Cobalt. They patiently set a table for u outside... then just as patiently moved us indoors when we realized it was too windy to eat outside. Tom, our server, was great. We love this Vero Beach gem and will be back soon!
