The food is pretty good but it is the ambiance and the employees who make this place special. I usually have the stone crab in season, but tried something different this time - shrimp and grits. A treat! It is always busy, so make reservations. Parking can be a problem, but they have a shuttle if their own lot is full. It is usually a special treat to dine here, even tho the food is not spectacular, but pricey.

On a Saturday night during a two-day visit to Venice, Florida, we weren't able to get reservations. SO we decided to stop by Crow's Nest to have a drink at the bar in the upstairs part of the restaurant. Lucky that we did! Under the watchful eye of bartender Erik and Will, we enjoyed our drinks and then decided to order dinner right there. Erik provided top-rate service, was very attentive in a subtle and pleasant way, and managed (with help from Will) to juggle his way through all the orders that came his way on a busy evening. Our salmon was cooked perfectly, we enjoyed green beans, cole slaw, spinach, and baked potato, and also shared rolls and crackers served with whipped butter, an olive oil concoction, and red pepper hummus. Nice! Topped the meal by sharing key lime pie. Love this place and will return!

Dinner downstairs in the tavern has a more casual less expensive menu than the main restaurant upstairs. Consistently very good.No reservations so wait can be long at times.Good atmosphere good food.

We like the prompt and professional attention but our waiter was awkward which ended up making us all a little uncomfortable at times. While he tried not to be intrusive his hovering ended up distracting us and we wish he simply would have interrupted us instead. His service was a little slow as in inattentive despite the appearance of white glove service. We had to flag him down finally to get our drink order in and overall I think he was trying too hard to offer 5 star service and it appeared stilted (and awkward). Our group of 4 all had different entrees. All very good, but the sauce on the grits (shrimp and grits) was a little over the top making it overpower the dish. I had a special - pompano with baby shrimp. It came with rice and green beans. The rice was crunchy - perhaps not cooked enough? Overall, the ambience is inviting, the interior dining room is setup in a nice way to offer each group a feeling of having their own private area and it's easy to talk and hear each other. The menu is extensive with items ranging from quite affordable to high-end. The specials menu seemed well thought out and offered some great options beyond the great sounding menu. Great drink menu, too, and many wine selections.

Great location. Food was only average at best with high prices. The mussels were drowned in cream and ruined. The lane snapper special was a very mean portion and tasted generic. Overall the portions were very small. No-ones food was above average, but apart from what I mentioned nothing else terrible either. Service was poor. We got our drinks and had to wait 20 mins before we could order. When paying and waiting for my credit card, a waitress insisted on clearing our table getting us to pass everything. In the end my wife had to ask her to wait a minute as we were about to leave. Our children got disapproving looks from a couple of particularly unfriendly staff while waiting for our table. A swanky looking place in a great location but with small portions of average at best food, iffy service and high prices. Would have expected something far more.

We have been to The Crows Nest every year since we have been coming down to Florida, 10 plus years. It was our friends birthday. We all ordered the shrimp basket at a pricey $16.99 each. Two of us paid $1.50 extra for onion rings. Our portions were very scanty compared to what they used to be. Eight shrimp are now six. Fries are half the usual portion. Onion rings are a small 6-7 each. Coleslaw was about a tablespoon The food is very delicious, but for the price you pay, why not a little more coleslaw, onion rings and potatoes that cost very little for a restaurant to provide. All the restaurants in Venice give much bigger portions for lower cost at the same quality. Will rethink this restaurant in the future.

We met another couple for lunch at 1:30 pm. I’m glad I called ahead and made a reservation as it was very busy and we were seated right away. Our server was busy, but very prompt and courteous during our entire visit. Large windows give you a beautiful view overlooking water. It was great to be inside as it was cool and very breezy outside. Large selection of drinks to choose from. Menu was also varied in its offering of food. We had Ahi Tuna, Fish Sandwich. Ruben Sandwich and Groupher Bites. All were of generous portions and tasted very good. As we were celebrating a birthday, Sandy received a free piece of Key Lime Pie and we including server sang her “Happy Birthday “. Key Lime Pie was good, but we have had better Overall, very good experience

This restaurant has everything. Beautiful view wonderful service and excellent food. There were 5 of us and we had NE chowder seafood bisque flatbread chicken wrap crab cake and nest shrimp and crab salad. Everything was absolutely delicious. We drive 15 miles to go there and would do it again

We dined here in late January 2021 and were very pleased. Although FL has minimal protocol in place for COVID in restaurants, this place offered seating on a lower, outdoor level with tables 6 ft or more apart. The waiter wore a mask and was very efficient and friendly. We enjoyed a glass of wine each and the salmon salad and ahi tuna salad. Food was excellent. It looks like the restaurant also has a screened in upper porch with views of the marina and indoor dining both of which were packed with diners. Coming from a state with strict COVID practices we did not feel comfortable in that environment but very much appreciated the option provided by The Crows Nest. We will return some day FOR SURE!

Went for our 46th anniversary dinner. Food and service were subpar. Server was unconcerned, did not clear appetizer plates before bringing main course food poorly prepared. This used to be one of our go to favorites but not anymore.

First the atmosphere was delightful, great view and the service was also good; sadly it was the food that was the biggest issue. The wine list was great by the way. The seafood tower was the starter for us along with the clam chowder. The tower was average. We are used to eating raw oysters and steamed clams but they served the tower with raw calms and that took us by surprise. The calm chowder soup was terrible and no one ate more than a single bite. It was like paste, thick and dense; I think too much flour and too little clams. No real flavor at all. We were given a sample of the bisque and I found it much more pleasant and delicious. My daughter got the crab cakes and although some shell is expected, every bite was full of shell. She only first 1/2 of a crab cake and there were two served. Bigger surprise and disappointment was my Key Largo Grouper with seafood on top. How can that taste bad? But it was dry fish, lacked flavor, the sauce they served it with was bland; I only ate a couple of bites and then push it aside. We spent over $900 for 6 people, with wine and most of us left 90% of the food on the plate. I am surprised this place is so popular given the taste of the food. everyone at the table agreed that it just wasn't worth the money when we were all disappointed. Maybe it was an 'off' night, I can't be sure.

Not just because it happened to be my birthday but because the Crows Nest is consistent with its quality of food and fantastic service. Anthony couldn't have been more patient and attentive (as well as "hot under the mask"). The seldom mentioned bartendress definitely added to our merriment with her perfectly mixed manhattan and dirty Vodka martinis with cheese stuffed olives. My favorite, the walnut encrusted salmon is hard to beat, although my galpal said the Grouper Special the Best she'd had. After dinner celebration on the open veranda service by Cathy was delightful as well. Well deserved KUDOS and a big thank you for once AGAIN making my 39th and 69th memorable! LOL

My family has owned a winter home in Venice for the past 40 years, and Crow's Nest has been a familiar and inviting restaurant for generations of children, grandchildren, cousins, and friends. Without fail, a success to satisfy everyone with fresh lobster and seafood, adult beverages at a fair price, fun Happy Hour and theme evenings, and conveniently located near the pier and famous white-sand beach. Staff being creative and accommodating during COVID-19 restrictions, and hope all with support them with holiday gift cards or a personal visit!

Talking to staff and a few other patrons they seem to believe COVID is over, no enforced vaccination or mask requirements for staff. The food for the price was very average and outright expensive, service to get another drink was very slow, they need more staff, location and parking are ample, scenery good. The food seems to be directed at the taste for old folks: good portions, selections can be greasy and salty. I have been here 3 times and will seek seafood elsewhere but options in Venice are very limited

We meet friends at Crow’s Nest once a year for lunch. We’ve discovered that having a reservation at opening time (11:30) best suits our needs, although I wouldn’t hesitate to select CN for dinner. Weather permitting, we prefer to sit on the upstairs patio. The food and service are both very good and the menu provides many options. We typically order grouper dishes. CN is easy to find using your GPS. Parking is limited; to compensate, CN runs a golf cart shuttle. The view is worth the trip. We enjoy the on water activity. We’ll be back.
