When we are in the area (2-3 times a year) we stop in to Dimitri's, particularly for the grilled octopus entree. It is without equal! Truthfully, the decor could use some updating, and the deck area could be spruced up, but we have always found...the waitstaff to be friendly and courteous, and the food is top notch Greek cuisine! Unless you're feeding your entire family, order the small Greek salad!More
This was one of the most disappointing meals/dining experiences my husband and I have ever had! It was even more disappointing, as my husband and I had dined there about three years ago and had been very pleased.
As we entered the door of the...restaurant, a man standing nearby asked us, “How many?” I quickly told him two. Without saying a word, he grabbed 2 menus and began walking away. We followed. When he stopped at a table, we expressed that we’d like to dine outside. He picked up the menus, walked outside to the dock area (not the deck area), placed the menus on a table and walked off. (BTW, the menus were filthy, laden with food.) We sat and in a reasonable amount of time, a waiter appeared with our utensils and glasses of water; he then walked off, never uttering a word. Shortly thereafter he returned and took our orders, maybe uttering a few words, not sure. Both my husband and I ordered the grouper. Since there was no mention of accompanying sides, we did inquire and were told either potatoes or a salad.
As we waited for our dinner, we watched children tossing bread into the water to multitudes of catfish that were clamoring for their meals there at the dock. When our meals finally arrived, the server placed them at our table and walked away. As I looked over at my husband’s generous portion of grouper that he had just tried to cut, I noticed redness glowing from the portion that was facing me – IT WAS TOTALLY RAW! I had begun to eat around the edges of mine and noticed it wasn’t flaky and the more I cut, I realized it was very UNDERCOOKED. When our waiter finally reappeared, we explained the situation. He took both plates and said he would replace them. Once this was finally done, there were no apologies or follow-up from the server, the management, or anyone else! Upon completion of our meals, the check was presented to us with an additional $2 charge. By this point, we didn’t even inquire!
In addition to the meals being far inferior to any restaurant where we have eaten, the establishment was just plain dirty. The outside door from the dock was filthy, with sticky handles. Both the men’s and women’s restrooms were dirty, mildewed and sinks were detached from the walls. This building is in serious need of a deep cleaning and remodeling. Considering our meals, I’m afraid to know what happens (or doesn’t happen) in the kitchen! In our opinion, there should also be some training for the staff regarding public relations!
There was one positive portion of our meals – the olive oil for the bread was delicious! Thus, the "One" rating.
This was a dining experience that will not be repeated, as we will NEVER return to this restaurant when in the Tarpon Springs area!More
My husband is Greek and we visit this restaurant every time we go to Tarpon Springs. We've been going there for over 15 years. Our recent visit was extremely disappointing. The gentleman at the door asked "how many." We said "two," he grabbed two menus...and walked away ~ so we followed! He literally threw our menus on the table and walked away. Our table was very dirty, the menus were sticky and ratty looking, there were crumbs on the chairs. Though the food was okay, we feel that this restaurant has adopted the "we don't care" attitude. This place is caught in the 1960s and needs a remodel. It is dirty. The bathroom was also dirty, and the paper towel holder was hanging off the wall. I doubt that it happened the day we visited. On our way out, I saw a worker in the open kitchen wipe his nose, he had no gloves on. Wonder whose food got touched by him!!More
Not very elegant dining, but probably about as good as it gets in Tarpon Springs. The host seemed to have a chip on his shoulder, but our server was excellent. Everything we tried, from appetizers to baklava, was very good.
I’m a big fan of Plateia, but I was very close to Dimitri and decided to give it a try. The octopus was good, but the zucchini, the eggplant and the baked feta were very disappointing. I won’t eat there again. The service however was...good, can’t complain and they have a beautiful terrace with vines on top, it’s a pity that a nice restaurant like that is lacking the quality of food.More
The food and service was excellent, after a very disappointing meal yesterday at the #1 Greek restaurant down the street. Pita platter had enough for at least two people. The dipping sauce for break was great.
This was out last night in town and a good one. The rain came down heavy and we all enjoyed watching the thunder storm through giant windows. People there are really Greek and they are nice. I would go back again for sure. It isnt...fancy at all but that isnt the point of this place. GREAT location and good food!More
