Went for dinner with my husband

Went for dinner with my husband and daughter, we were immediately impressed with the friendly staff at the host desk. The concept of the menu was explained by our server, Thomas, who gave excellent recommendations for our meal. We ordered charcuterie, he asked a few questions then selected the perfect cheeses for us. The sommelier helped us select a bottle of wine, which we truly enjoyed. The most surprising dish for us was the grilled octopus, which Thomas recommended, and we all loved. We also liked the Gouda Fritters & the Warm Sweet & Sour Beets. The dishes are served family-style, so all we’re shared. Sticky Toffee Pudding topped off the meal. We will return soon!

Classy Hyde Park restaurant

Made a reservation for inside and had large space for seating. The evening was beautiful so the outdoor area would have been equally great. The server Daniel did an awesome job with upbeat personality, accurate recommendations, and a great explanation of dish sizes (more tapas-style) since our first visit. There is a slimmed down version of their charcuterie board right now. They also serve steaks sourced from nearby Berns steak house, I think a sister restaurant. The ‘here kitty kitty’ gin cocktail was gimmicky, it tasted good but in a weird drinking vessel. The rye whiskey cocktail with strawberry I had was really really good. Was sizable so while I would have loved to have a 2nd one, it would have been too much. The oysters with the marinade was very flavorful. While the crab hushpuppies were a bit dry, one of the 2 dipping sauces provided was amazing. The salad we shared was really big. I really enjoyed the coal grilled octopus, my friend raved about the chicken with crispy crust and the very spicy but powerful flavor of the sauce. Finally, ended with ice cream (vanilla, coffee, macadamia) with the much recommended Valrhona chocolate fudge! Again service was excellent and will be back often! Dress code appeared not formal but dressy casual. Reservations a must, it was full by 7pm on a Wednesday.

We went for Valentine’s Day, and I have to say it was ran very smoothly!! The waiter was fantastic, very attentive and personable (wish I could remember his name). The menu was set but there were 3 options per course (4 with dessert) including a vegetarian option!! I would have loved to try the full list, but we were impressed either way. Food was full of flavor, and the service put it over the top. The Haven Old Fashion Maybe one of my favorites top 5, at least!!

Foodie paradise!

A great evening of food and wine at the Haven! This is a loud, noisy fun hipster bar that is operated by the Bern’s Steakhouse group. Lots of fabulous cocktails and great wines by the glass. Foodies will love all the choices of tapas style dishes available here. We chose many dishes including Hamachi Sashimi, King Crab Dumplings, Wagyu Tartare, Piedmont Truffle Ravioli, Tellegio Mac & Cheese, Pumpkin Mole Bone Marrow and Pastrami Duck Breast. All dishes were superb, with the Truffle Ravioli being our favorite. We enjoyed several wines by the glass, which were all great pours. Valet parking is available here and all Covid protocols are being followed here. Our service was sporadic as they were extremely busy for a late Monday night. Our server was very professional. We highly recommend this restaurant for a great evening of food and beverage.

Interesting & flavorful small plates

The regular menu is not very long, but has a wide variety of dishes. The Happy Hour menu adds some additional dishes as well as inexpensive drinks. I had the shrimp & foie gras dumplings - while they were very good, neither the shrimp nor the foie gras flavors "spoke" loudly. I also had the octopus - nicely done - tender and spicy. Their specialty cocktails are a good choice. Service was prompt and knowledgeable about the menu.

Amazing experience

The service was excellent even with the COVID precautions. The food was a nonstop stream of hits where each tapas item was better than the next. Started with the chefs choice charcuterie, delicious. Beat Blue Cheese I ever had. Pear salad was delicious and light. Delmonico was delicious with a beautiful purée on top. Chicken thighs were excellent like 5 star crispy chicken wings, tilefish was like a Thai/Indian sauce that was really light and balanced. Dessert was homemade and perfect. I had the homemade ice cream and hot fudge. We had been to Berns several times and wanted to try something new, we were not dissatisfied. Bought a bottle of their blend of Barrel Bourbon at the Marriott Epicurean where we stayed- their cocktails were equally impressive at Haven. World class experience. Our server had a great personality, was informative and made great suggestions.

Just gets better and better

Just before the pandemic hit Haven had started to up its game considerably. I'd had a long relationship with the establishment and people dating from the old SideBerns days. I never thought they quite had the swing of things until they started offering Brunch around the holidays or before (in COVID time seems so difficult to gauge). The brunch was discontinued before the pandemic shutdowns started but the elevation had solidified and (like some other establishments in Tampa) Haven really rose to the occasion with fantastic takeout ideas/themes. I'm taking this opportunity to write about Haven as it exists in our current world. It's really fabulous. As the reopening started I appreciated the caution with which they operated. I always felt far enough away from other guests and servers were always masked (nose and mouth!). The food and beverages have been top notch and I want to call out the Perigord Truffle Raviolo egg yolk, mushroom, fontina, spinach, lots of shaved truffles Wow! I'll let you imagine how all these items beautifully pair. You must go now.

Larceny is a good name for this event

We have had wagu beef many times, so we ordered a pound of their supposed wagu brisket. It was tough & had GIANT globs of fat, not the normal wagu marbling. Charging $39 per pound for meat that is 1/3 fat is truly larceny! Also, we love burnt ends which are usually the very well done ends of a smoked brisket or other roast. These supposed burnt ends were tiny short ribs with barely any meat on them! Again, true to the term larceny. The pork ribs were tough on the surface & layered with fat under the surface, so much that it made me gag ! I guess there's no larceny here because they never said that the ribs were not 80% fat! Well, 2 out of three still qualifies it as a larcenous undertaking. My advice is:STAY AWAY unless you like getting ripped off!!!

Alan S., we apologize that you didn't enjoy your bbq from Larceny. Our burnt ends are inspired by the traditional preparation, but done our way, utilizing back ribs from USDA prime beef. In regards to the briket, we use 9+ graded beef, which has an extremely high degree of marbling. The 76 hour cooking process is done in a manner to make this fat soft and decadent, but not to fully render it. Again, we apologize that our offerings were not to your liking, we celebrate serving non traditional preparations of barbecue, and understand that they may not be for everyone. Thank you for giving us a try.

Great dinner in Tampa

Met some long time friends while visiting Tampa and went to Haven for dinner. Great restaurant with creative food and beverage options. Started with a charcuterie platter the hav so many cheese options it can be tough to choose. Had an excellent dirty martini to start. Most everything on the menu is served as small plates and it is great to order several and share. We shared the char grilled octopus, seared red snapper, garlic roasted cod and Brussels sprout salad. Everything was delicious and very flavorful. They have a great wine list by the glass or bottle. We had a couple of glasses of Orin Swift eight years in the desert which was spectacular. Definitely a must if in the Tampa area.

Great experience and food

We tried Haven bc we wanted to go to Bern’s but couldn’t get in and this was their sister restaurant. The menu is fancy and can be intimidating but our server Thomas was so knowledgeable about the wine and food menu that we felt comfortable ordering his recommendations. We had 9 things off the menu including dessert and it was all different and amazing! My parents don’t like brussel sprouts but loved the Brussel sprout salad! We really enjoyed our experience there and would definitely recommend!

Mixed Bag

I had the truffled pork rinds and grilled octopus. We shared the roasted olives. My wife had the Happy Hour cheese plate and the Key West Pink Shrimp. My 2 dishes were very good – portion size and flavor. The olives were seasoned with red peppers – a lot spicier than expected and detracted from the variety of olives in the dish. The cheese was a good value. However, the Key West Pink Shrimp were covered in a brown spicy sauce that masked the flavor of shrimp without adding any interesting flavors. The menu features a huge assortment of cheeses and charcuterie meats. Service was attentive. Outdoor seating is nice, despite traffic noises from Morrison Blvd.

If I was a connoisseur food snob

If I was a connoisseur food snob I am sure I could judge my meal tonight against previous restaurants with similar fare. But alas I am not. We just enjoy the simplicity of good food, good drink and great service. Daniel our server was extremely knowledgable and very attentive to our dining experience. The three epicurean dishes we had were over the top. We will definitely put THE HAVEN at the top of our list of go to places in Tampa.

Great tasting menu

The valentines dinner at Haven was our best gastronomic experience in Tampa. They seem to have a real chef who prepared the most beautiful and tasty dishes. We finally have a local and modern restaurant that can compete in a cosmopolitan city. I will definitely return.

Wonderful Surprise -- Unique Menu

I'm so sorry, I forget to take photos. I couldn't get into Bern's Steakhouse a week before we arrived so they recommended their other restaurant I was disappointed and hesitant but it too was a Michelin Restaurant so I made reservations online. Such a great surprise!!! It was a lovely time with my family. The staff was wonderful and atmosphere was relaxed and the food was fabulous. My son realized after having the Brussel Sprouts Salad that he loves Brussel Sprouts now. Makes mama happy to see him eating his vegetables and loving them. The Seabass and Scallops were awesome and the presentation was phenomenal. I loved my Steak and the twist on the sauce. The atmosphere was a bit loud but wonderful. Everyone was having such a great time. Valet could use 2 people on as he was very overwhelmed with all the traffic but handled it very well. Enjoyed the very unique menu, but I was just not brave enough to try those menu items. Thank you Haven, you rock!!
