I’ve lived in Tampa almost my entire life but just recently discovered this restaurant. I stumbled upon it because of a business dinner and everybody loved it so much that has now become one of my go to‘s for both business and pleasure. It is...the perfect blend of amazing steaks, fish and Italian dishes. The wine menu is outstanding and be sure to try the tiramisu.More

We've been to Donatello's in the past, but it's probably been about 10 years since we last visited. It was one of our favorites back then, so we introduced 4 new people to it the other night. We were very excited. Unfortunately, none of the...things we loved about it, great service, great food, and great atmosphere, were present this night. The service was so slow it was painful. Additionally, the people that waited on us were not friendly, and when they were there, they were in a rush to get away. This alone was enough to ruin our entire night, however, the food was just meh too. The Osso Bucco my wife got was as good as we remembered but other than that, my veal chop was overcooked and had to be sent back, and the veal scallopini my friend got was pedestrian at best. There really wasn't anything any of us got, other than the Osso Bucco, that was a 'just wow' experience. And frankly, you go to a place like this for a 'just wow' experience - and you pay for it. We have no issue at all paying for greatness, but this was so far from that. We were all really disappointed with the entire experience. I wish I could recommend it, but I just can't. Very disappointing.More

For my birthday, my longtime friends invited me to dinner and asked me for a recommendation even though they live in the Tampa Bay area and I do not at the present time though I have on and off for a long time. The most...glaring deficiency, though there are many others, is the quality of the ingrediants for the food. You would think that at premier prices they would maintain quality. But no, they think they can now get away with lower grade ingrediants and coast on their reputation. Specifically, I had the Osso Buco for $69.00 a plate. Outrageous, yes, but it was a significant birthday and I wasn't paying. What was wrong? The veal was way overcooked and it was stringy to the point that it was inedible. I would have returned it immediately to the waiter IF I wasn't their guest but I did not want to make a fuss in their presence. After all, it was my restaurant choice. The restaurant itself hasn't changed over the past 30 plus years that I have been going here. However, the patrons have changed. You predominately have a thirty-forty year old crowd who are boisterous and the women are trying to out do each other trying to make themselves into sex symbols. Then you have the occasional older couples celebrating some life event as well. The noise level on a Friday night is ear shattering. With that, you should have the picture but I could go on and on.More

I don't know why people give this restaurant five stars. The service is not at the same scale as the price of the food. The restaurant is too expensive for "Italian food".

Understated family oriented dining with polished service and decor. Stop at the bar for a nightcap and live comfortable jazz. Each of our entrees; veal, grouper and salmon swam in a mild heavy cream sauce so ask for less. The tomato sauce which we had...on the pasta plate appetizer is creamy/sweet. Nice desserts, especially the limoncello ice cream. Ample free parking in rear.More

Touristy rip off. Our reservation was made and confirmed three weeks in advance. Parking was totally inadequate with long waiting for valet. We were shown to a table in an "overflow" room remote from the pre-offered entertainment show, and essentially treated as second class patrons....The food was so-so considering the excessively high prices, and the service rendered by a busboy was perfunctory at best. The greedy management clearly took more reservations than they could properly handle with disastrous results. STAY AWAY!!!!More

We came here as guests of another family. What a memorable and enjoyable dinner. Hard to believe after living in Tampa for so many years, we had not been here before, at least I don't recall coming here. We were there on a Monday night,...arriving at 6pm. By the time we left two hours later I would say the restaurant was 90% full, and that was on a quiet Monday night! I had their ossobucco, which was terrific. Tender and falling apart, along with risotto. My daughter had their pasta bolognese dinner. We had some tiramisu and chocolate mouse cake for dessert. Yum!More

One of my favorite Tampa restaurants for special celebrations. It doesn’t fit into the budget as often as I’d like, but a visit is always memorable and this was our 48th anniversary. During the holiday season, getting reservations is difficult so I made this one...about 2 months in advance. The dining room atmosphere is a wonderful change from the typical huge space, high ceiling, loud rooms. The linens are rose, the lighting coordinates. The low ceiling creates a much more intimate feeling. Wait staff is all in black and white and the maitre d wear tuxedos. The food is fabulous and finished with flair as we watched from our booth. We had cocktails, then wine with the fried calamari as an appetizer, which they divided into 2 plates for us. For our entree we had the rack of lamb for 2. It was moist, tender and beautifully seasoned. The baked beef steak parmesan crusted tomato was a great pairing. The broccoli was crisp tender. We shared a tiramisu and also had coffee. The service is not rushed and done in a manner that makes you feel truly special, rather than something they have to do. Nothing was rushed so that they could turn over the table. There were new staff being trained with careful supervision and gentle correction from the maitre d, but this was only a mild distraction, I suppose because we were observing so many interactions. As life normalizes after almost 2 years of COVID, at least inexperienced staff aren’t left to their own devices. With the pandemic, so much has changed, so it was refreshing to see that this classy place remains, and...is still honoring the tradition of presenting the guest with a long stem rose! It absolutely was perfect closure as we left.More

INCREDIBLE!!!!! Total mismanagement to be “out” of so many things simultaneously….. Good Lord, I just wanted to eat dinner with my girlfriend and was subjected to this type of lunacy!!! There were no apologies for this insanity whatsoever….. 100% lame…..More
