We saw a write up about Big John’s in Southern Living magazine so gave it a try. Wife had a smoked baked potato with pulled pork, and sides of slaw and corn on the cob. I opted for a two meat combo, chicken and beef with fries and slaw. The chicken was excellent with crispy skin and good smoke. The other dishes were just average. The restaurant is very clean and the service is cordial and professional. If in the area would get a half or whole chicken to go but would not make another special trip to dine there again.

Finally decided to stop by and eat here since I pass it up every day going to work. And I'm so glad I did. I've been looking for a great bbq place for a reasonable price. They did not disappoint. It's a small restaurant, but they do well with take-out orders. I decided to eat in since my drive home is usually over an hour. I had the 2 meats and 2 sides meal which was 2 ribs with sweet sauce, sliced up sausage, baked beans, macaroni salad, and 2 slices of white bread. I also got a large sweet tea (free refills). Total came to a little over $16, which is a great price for the amount of food you get. But what matter to me the most was the taste, which was excellent! Even the sweet tea was the right amount of sweetness, very refreshing. I'm so happy I found this place and will probably stop in once a week for my bbq fix. I highly recommend it, so if you're in the area stop by for some great bbq food!

This is obviously a popular place. We areived a littlw after noon and the parking lot was full.
I had the sausage sandwich with the.mild.sauce and a side.of.potato salad. My husband had the chopped pork, cole slaw, potato salad, and a sausage with the hot sauce.
The sausage was good and I also enjoyed the mild sauce which had a tomato base and just a touch of spiciness. The potato salad was good but too sweet for my taste.
The chopped pork was also good and my husband liked the slaw and the potato salad.
One negative was that they were having issues with the soda machine so I wasn't able to get my Coke Zero. Not a big deal and someone was trying to repair it while we were there.
So, not a place that we'll go out of our way to visit but definitely worth a return trip the next time we're near Tampa.

Amazing bbq! Son had a pulled pork sandwich with mac n cheese and daugter had mac. They loved it all! U had 3 meats (ribs, pulkednpork, sausage) and some beans. All was fantastic! I am not usually a raver of sausage but it was perfect in the sauce! The woman that greeted us was so wonderful to us we will never forget. She took care of us like family...so awesome!

Our family has visited Clearwater multiple times the last three years.We always make it a point to visit Big John's Alabama BBQ.Everthing has tasted great everytime!!*****We look forward to the beach and the BBQ!!!!Norm in Cincy

This place was recommended by a friend and the food was not disappointing. What I didn't like was that it was super hot in this establishment to the point of me getting nauseated. 2. The owner/boss kept yelling across the room about work etiquette and how she was the boss. It was a very dark place but the food was great.

I read that this place was rated #1 in Fla in Southern Living magazine. So my wife, on our 39th anniversary, suggested that we go. She is always right. Yeah, we waited on line to order, and waited for our food, but the people who work there are nice and the atmosphere was awesome. The wait was worth it. Don't go here if you want a waitress, Go here for the Q. Even the coleslaw was good, no joke.

GREAT FOOD, wonderful staff. The place was busy with locals who all made us out of towers welcome. The type of place that helps build a neighborhood. We live 2 hours away and will be back. Don’t miss this place!!!!!

we got a slab of ribs and a whole chicken to go. when we got home and opened food the ribs we so burnt and dry they were inedible. threw them away will never go there again $52 wasted

We were hankering for barbecue and happened to be near Big John’s, where we’ve never eaten before.
The atmosphere is spare…typical barbecue joint. Staff members were all pleasant and helpful. You order at the counter and come get the food when your number is called. Servings are generous and prices are fair.
The ribs were too salty. But once past the outer part, the interior of the ribs were very good. The chicken was quite tasty. The collards were too salty. The cole slaw was typical buy-in-a-big-jug-from-Costco, so OK but a bit bland—a little vinegar would have elevated it. Their barbecue sauce was too sour for us.
We had a lot to take home and we’ll find a way to modify everything enough so that we’ll enjoy it.
I doubt that I will go back.

I have been going to big johns for over 30 years and no one has better barbecue than big johns. I always tell everyone that comes to Florida that they have to check out big johns because it’s the best.

The ribs were burnt from being heated over...chicken was not completely cooked...greens were not seasoned...I live approximately 50 miles away...and was not going to drive back to return the food...I had to throw it out and this was after spending 108.00 and a 10.00 tip...I want to be refunded some of my money...I am going to teach out to them today...they were closed when I discovered the quality of the food after I got home and we got ready for dinner.

This place has odd hours. We got there right at 6pm and they let us in even though they were closing up shop. We ate outside because they were closing. The meat was pretty tasty and falling off the bone!

This used to be my favorite BBQ place for years when I lived in Tampa. Visited this past week while traveling in the area but was disappointed...Food was good but service was adequate, place needs a good cleaning, tv's weren't working, only raspberry sweet tea not regular sweet tea at a BBQ place??? The thing that turned me off and two others who walked in and walked out without dining there was that they are still asking patrons to wear mask into the restaurant....Doesn't make sense and saw two lost sales while I was there..... Guess I'll go to Mission BBQ as they have a lot more choices, friendly service, clean environment and support the good ole USA..... Sorry guys - missed the mark
