King of the Coop is a true gem in Tampa! My wife and I visited for the first time today for lunch and had a wonderful experience. I ordered The Dirty Bird. This massive sandwich was filled with tender juicy chicken strips covered in divinely...crispy breading and flavorful and spicy seasonings (I ordered mine Nashville Hot). The strips sat on a layer of creamy pimento cheese and smothered with a creamy “king” sauce. The potato bun nicely soaked up any excess sauce and spices. The side of fries was also no joke: soft and savory on the inside and extra crispy on the outside with flavorful seasonings. All the food paired nicely with sweet lemonade. Overall this was one of the best chicken sandwiches I have ever tried. Additionally, the restaurant was taking serious Covid precautions. Staff were wearing masks, hand sanitizer was available and there is an outdoor seating area in the back. I will be back soon.More

I love this place! Definitely a hole in the wall but huge well spiced tenders cooked perfectly. Really liked their mac and cheese as well. I've recommended it to everyone I know and catered an informal event from there as well. The menu is small...but everything I've had has been good so no complaints here.More

My daughter and I stopped here fir lunch on 12/21/2000. I’m so glad we did! This place is nothing to look at from the outside, or inside in fact when you enter the old I’ll fitting door barely closes properly. The first thing you see...is a small counter with a view into a large kitchen area. Right now there is no seating but even if there was it consists of one table and five stools against a wall. It doesn’t matter that it’s take out only though. We both ordered the chicken tenders (I added a fourth tender that was not necessary) which fries and chose the second to hottest sauce. After paying we waited in the car about 10 minutes then they called for us to come pick up the order. The orders were in separate styrofoam containers. The tenders and fries were obviously fresh out of the fryer the flavor was amazing the chicken tenders were over large, perfectly breaded and crunchy but tender and juicy inside the sauce made your nose run just like we love and the flavor was great. The fries were crispy on the outside and delicious potato flavor on the inside. Although we are an hour and a half away, anytime I have business in Tampa this will be a go to spot. I would love to try their other offerings but I’m not sure I can order something different it was so good!More

Good tasting chicken & fries. Ok price. Friendly customer service. They only have chicken tenders and not regular fried chicken.

This place is excellent and I can’t stop recommending it to my friends! The pimento cheese sandwich was amazing as was the default Nashville hot chicken! Everything here is delish - just go try it!

I hate writing bad reviews but I have to say this was really terrible the chicken tenders were majorly spicy for a mild order and were mush like they were reheated in a microwave....I’ll stick to my frozen food for much less

So they messed up my order and dumped mac & cheese all over my sandwich, which I didn't realize until I left. they also didn't include the slaw, which was supposed to be on the side. If it weren't for those errors, it would be...a solid 5 stars. Limited menu but everything is done very well. Excellent flavor. Generous portions. Reasonable cost ($10-12/meal). Great sides. The greens were outstanding and the fries were seasoned very well. Mac & cheese actually was great I just didn't want it slopped all over my meal. Jalapeno hush puppies also very good but in the future I'd just order the sando with greens, even with the upcharge, as that alone would be enough for 2 meals. Friend had catfish basket and loved it. But the real star here is the chicken. Tenders are served basket style or 2 on a sandwich. Potato bun was incredibly soft and flavorful, homemade pickles were delish, and I wish I'd gotten to try the slaw. The heat level options are naked (no heat), Nashville Hot (seasoning plus some cayenne), Biddy (Nashville seasoning without the cayenne), and Coops Fury (Nashville with extra cayenne and maybe some other pepper?). It is not by any stretch of the imagination Nashville-level heat. Nashville Hot (here) is what I'd call a solid medium at Nashville-based Hattie B's. Coops Fury (the hottest level here) is comparable to Hot at Hattie B's. Hattie B's also goes to Damn Hot (habanero based) and Shut the Cluck Up (Ghost pepper), so if you're looking for that kind of burn you will be disappointed. But it was incredibly flavorful, a respectable level of heat, and a huge portion. Definitely will return.More

I had the King Mac sandwich and it was delicious. Cheese Mac and cheese and well seasoned chicken. The hush puppies and pimento cheese were also amazing. I will definitely be ordering from here again.

Stopped with a friend who suggested this place for “hot” chicken. Very unassuming but great staff. We each had the Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich which came with fries and pickles and slaw. The flavor was amazing. Just the right temperature for me. Plenty of food...for a very reasonable price. Two thumbs up. If you know and like Hattie B’s in Nashville this is as good or better.More

Had the dirty bird sandwich with pimento cheese and it was awesome. Chicken super tender and juicy and flash re fried to order. The dining room leaves a little to be desired, unfinished, undeveloped floor, ac unit blowing mildew smelling air. Bottom line, you gotta...try it, but get it to go.More
