This place is great if you like getting ripped off. The last several times we've ordered we've had to drive back across town to get the other half of our order they forgot. Today we ordered guacamole, like we have every single time over the...last 6 years and got a bowl with half an avocado, still in its skins, no salt, jalapeños, or anything else that actually makes it guacamole. I've been more than forgiving over the last several years but if I wanted to spend 10 dollars on half an avocado I would have dropped 9 dollars out my car window on the way to publix.More

We visited here on a weekday evening with our family. We live in Southwood, so it is very convenient. Food was really great on this visit and staff was very attentive. Husband and I split combo fajitas and they were awesome. Kids had tacos, other...adults with us had enchiladas and a shrimp dish. Drinks were good too that night. Definitely plan to go back!More

We live near the Southwood El Jalisco, so we've eaten here for years, and it has usually been modestly good. The new owner has really improved the atmosphere, but, even better, he's a Chef. Believe me--the food has improved dramatically. Every dish we've tried has...been balanced and prepared with great flavor profiles and excellent presentation. Our server was wonderful also, so, what's not to like?More

We visited this place first time and not disappointed. Chips and salsa was good, some other dipping sauces were tasty. I don’t like the tangy one. Service was accurate and respectful. Ordered grill chicken and three amigos, both tastes really flavourful. We asked grill jalapeños...on side and was good. Quantity and quality both are up to the expectations. I will recommend this place to try.More

EL J’S POBLANO RELLEÑO was served in a regular green bell pepper. How they justify the Poblano in the descrition is beyond me. I sent it back. The Shrimp Diablo was very tasty and the additional side of Jalepenos made it spicy enough to qualify...as Diablo-ed! The service has been either very excellent or tragic. Most times service is excellent. We will continue to visit here as it is nice to have a walking distance restaurant.More

One thing you can count on is that the food is always consistent. It may not be the very best Mexican Restaurant however the service is quick and friendly and the food is always consistent. You know what your going to get time and time...again. I'm a vegetarian and they have several options to choose from. Last time I was there I ordered Sangria and much to my surprise they were buy one get one. They were so delicious. If you want a quick dinner, in a clean and comfortable location, this would be a good choice.More

I’m a big fan of Mexican food. Unfortunately my experience here was so bad I haven’t ate Mexican food since. For starters the service was sub par. The wait was long and the food was so bland I didn’t even finish it.

It took over 30 minutes to get Queso and chips. The queso with water down and they did not want to fix it at first. It took over an hour and 45 minutes to get our meal, plus I got fajitas, but was not given...the wraps. The manager gave us “I’m sorry” but that was it. We eat there an average of twice a month. Want be headed Back anytime too soon.More

I reviewed this place back in August of 2016. I came back with my wife hoping things had gotten better as far as food, service, and the environment. Unfortunately, it all got worse. First off, there are now sections of the ceiling allowing water to...drip down to where people are sitting both at tables and at the bar. This will occur even when it is not raining as it was a bright sunny day when we went. As we looked up, we noticed that numerous areas f insulation were wet, hanging, and black. To top it all off, the staff never did anything to address the water on the tables, chairs and floors. The service and food is just as typical and lacking as it was over a year earlier. Recommendation, stay away and go somewhere else.More

The Southwood location is very convenient for me. My most recent trip was about an hour before closing on a Sunday evening. I was able to order a drink and received chips pretty quickly. I made a takeout order, and immediately, after making the order,...I realized I had ordered one thing incorrectly. I walked toward the kitchen and asked that the order be modified. This was less than one minute after I had placed the order. I was told that the food was already being prepared and could not be changed. This was a huge surprise and very disappointing. I have never encountered this type of behavior in a decent restaurant. After receiving my takeout order, I asked for chips and salsa to take out with it. I was told there were no more chips. I asked someone else, and they brought a bag of chips to take out with me. This was a very disappointing visit to Southwood El Jalisco. Other El Jalisco's typically have amazingly good service, so I'm not sure what's going on with Southwood.More

For a recent lunch meal, I had the fajita salad with shrimp. The shrimp was wonderful and plentiful, but the underlying salad was awful. There were grilled onions that were far too large, very little avocado, and tomatoes instead of the advertised salsa. Only ate...the shrimp. Won't be back for awhile.More

Every year Leon County schools get out for 1/2 days - 3 days prior to the Christmas break (during midterms) and the same for the end of the year (during finals). Your location is blocks away from a High School and even if you don't...expect a rush, you should plan for such. No different than a Friday night or special event. After 45 minutes being seated, the waitress came out to say the lunch my husband ordered was out. FORTY FIVE MINUTES INTO LUNCH SERVICE! They were nice enough to bring me my lunch in a container with the BILL! The Manager wandered off for the waitress to hand off. I would comment on my food, but I never got to eat it. The chips and salsa were good. But, I'm highly disappointed. TIP: Management owes it to you. Service should have notified us much earlier about 86'd items and meal should have been complimentary for the wait. Should probably close door to kitchen too. Looking at piles of food on the floor is not appealing.More
