The new location in Seffner is just as awesome as the former location. Must haves are the bbq ribs, pulled chicken sandwich, parsley potatoes, and mama’s chocolate cake ala mode. Thanks, Melissa, for a wonderful dining experience!

We went on a Friday at about 5:30 in the evening. It was moderately busy with people eating and also ordering and picking up take out. We got big portions-- Choice of 3 BBQ plate and Choice of 2 plate. My husband ordered pork, ribs...and brisket with baked beans and macaroni salad. The pork was moist and terrific! Ribs were meaty and well seasoned with the right amount of smoke. The brisket came sauced which the girl told him when he ordered it. It was still too saucy for his taste. The macaroni salad was great-- which is strange, because we were not expecting to be fans. The beans were good, though we thought they were a tad over seasoned on either cloves or nutmeg-- bad beans are a deal breaker for my husband, and he still called them good. I chose ribs and spicy sausage. Loved the ribs and the portion size! I was not surprised by the spice in the sausage-- definitely had kick, though I took most of the sausages home because they were too much food for me. I ordered green beans and parsley potatoes. The beans were great, but the potatoes... oh my! They were outstanding. The only disappointment was the corn muffin. We didn't eat it after tasting it. It was dry and tasteless which was very surprising. They'd be improved with more moisture or fat--add cheese or cream corn to the batter?-- and they needed a touch of sweet. As they were, I could have skipped it across a pond. Maybe it was just a bad batch that night. I think they otherwise serve white bread, which is what I wish we had gotten. BTW, we used the Carolina yellow sauce, and I could have eaten it with a spoon, it was so good. The dining room is not much to look at-- pretty basic-- and the atmosphere is nothing, but we were there for the food and each other's company so we were fine. We ordered at the counter and took our seat at a table after getting our tableware and sauce bottles at the counter. They brought the food out super fast, so we didn't have to wait. We had a good experience, and will definitely eat there again. We should have tried the chicken but my husband and I both wanted ribs so no room for chicken. Next time.More
Thank you for good review, we look forward to seeing you again soon.
I love this place. I go there weekly. The food is great and the staff is very friendly and appreciate your business.
Absolutely best barbecue and sides. Haven’t tried the deserts…..no room. Their parley potatoes are awesome.
Got a carry out today, was very excited to try the spot! Ribs, beans and potatoes! Ribs were ok but the beans were nasty tasted like they came from a can, the potatoes were hard, the tea was unsweet when I asked for sweet! So...I call the restaurant the lady answered clearly didn’t have any customer service skills and sounded like she hated her job, so then a man got on the phone ( not sure who he was never stated his name)! I explained to him about my first experience there, ( I was very nice by the way) he became aggressive and very argumentative stating he doubts that and wouldn’t let me speak then hangs up!! (Sad way to run a business) By the way we spent $19 on just one plate !!! DO NOT RECOMMEND TO ANYONE!!!! There are wayyyyyyy better BBQ restaurants around Seffner, Brandon, and Valrico !More
Went here many times over the years. Unfortunately they have sold the land to developers. I see no way to notify Tripadvisor through the site- so had to post here to notify folks looking for BBQ.
Thank you, we will be opening at another spot. The phone number will stay the same, so check in soon for updates on when and where.
Kojak’s House of Ribs is serving up some great BBQ! But don’t let the name fool you, all the bbq is great, not just the ribs. Ribs, pulled pork, potatoes are all yum!! A bit off the beaten path of Tampa, but definitely worth the...trek to this smoky goodness! Definitely recommend for all you BBQ connoisseurs.More
Thank you
My go to place for take out for company and to go to. Super location in South Tampa with parking! So many years, I will hate to see them relocate and hope they can stay in South Tampa!
Thank you so much.
Had eaten here over a decade ago and finally made it back for lunch when I was visiting. Got to sit outside and was served pretty quickly. Got the ribs special with slaw and potato salad and enjoyed the food to the point I finished...the whole plate.More
Thank you.
Ate here and it made my spouse and I super sick. I even took the leftovers and recooked then thinking it might kill any bad stuff that was in there. I ate it the next day, my spouse didn't. And I got sick again. We...have been wanting to try this place for a while now. Unfortunately will not be back.More
Not impressed in the least, especially with all of the rave reviews and awards. The service was mediocre, the food was mediocre. The food comes out within minutes of ordering but it’s very dry, probably from sitting under a heat lamp for too long. We...tried the ribs, pulled pork sandwich and baked beans. The beans were okay, the meat was dry and no flavor. We opted for dessert for chocolate cake and that was very good. Would not come back again.More
Food was excellent, as always. Great service, our server, Melissa, was a sweetheart! Can't wait to come back.
Thank you and Happy Anniversary.
Picked this place from Tripadvisor, and it was terrific. Pleasant atmosphere, and great food. Lean brisket, delicious ribs and a good selection of BBQ sauces. The home-made key lime pie added the final touch.
Thank you, we're glad you enjoyed your visit.
Near the end of our meal, the six of us found ourselves talking about memorable bar-b-que experiences and it had become clear we were mostly disappointed by what Kojak's had delivered. Clearly a rich tradition going back to 1978 in a glorious location under a...grove of oak trees, close to where Gandy Blvd. runs into Hillsborough Bay. With the exception of one friend who raved about the dark-meat chicken, the rest of us were underwhelmed by the ribs (not moist or scrumptious), hot sausage (not so hot or flavorful) and brisket (decent). The mac and cheese deeply moved my friend but the baked beans featured an odd flavor of molasses and cloves. Most surprising was just how average the sauces rated. Yes, the mustard sauce was solid and strangely spicier than the "hot"; the others lacked identities and the kind of flavor that a place in its sixth decade should have developed by now. Outstanding service in a way cool setting.More
Still great ribs after all these years. Worth the visit if you've never been and worth the visit fir first timers.
