We have eaten at Surfing Deer 5 times over the last two years. Until the most recent visit on august 11, the experience and food has been great. This visit - our reservation was at 5:30 and we (party of 8) arrived promptly. Per the...waiters request, orders were taken for drinks , appetizers, and main course at same time. Drinks and appetizers arrived in a timely manner. We received our entrees at 7:05 pm. Well over an hour after appetizers were finished. Entrees were cold and just plain bad. We were told they have issues with help in kitchen, wait staff, runners, etc. we will not be back.More

6 of us dined at Surfing Deer and has a very enjoyable experience. The restaurant is nicely furnished and gives diners space instead of being crambed in and on top of one another, Thge ambience is upscale resort. Our server was very good and knowledgeable.The...back up staff was extremely attentive making sure our water glasses were always full. The starters menu is nice and we enjoyed the chacutary board and sweet bacon appetizer. Main course menue was interesting, but not huge. The main course seafood dishes and pork tenederloin were very good. Understanding that help is hard to get the wait time to get the main course was slow, but understandable as the restaurant seats allot of people and was full. Nice additon to the area,More

The hostesses seemed a little, um flighty but whatever since they were ok with granting our request of not sitting in the bar w a reservation. Service was super nice but also slow. The wait for our drinks was way too long, but again nice...and friendly so nbd. Menu is....meh...good stuff, interesting stuff, standard stuff and really? Our food was good but nothing special... almost a little dated in style. The ambiance is beachy-nice but its Florida food. Meaning no expectations will make for a good meal.More

Oysters and drinks were amazing and they have the best fancy patio! Highly recommend for couples, I wouldn’t want to bring my little kids.

Booked our reservation over a month ago for a special evening out. Our reservation was for 2 people at 6:15pm for 2 pm on a Tuesday night requesting a special table location. We arrived on time and we’re greeted by a confused hostess staff. We...were seated in the back in a dark function room.. we expressed our dissatisfaction and were told there were no other tables available. We said that’s fine we would leave and suddenly they found us another table… not impressed. The overall service to follow was fine but was nothing special. Place was under staffed and underwhelming. Looking for a special place?? This is not it.More

Scheduled reservation over a month in advance. We are seated 30 minutes after our reservation time. They can’t even make a dirty martini. It took 45 minutes for appetizers and 2 hours for our entrees. The steak was not cooked as ordered. Never checked on...for drink refills or even when two members of our family had to leave. The waiter and the manager were oblivious and even after relating how long it took. It took another 24 minutes to get the check. Deer in the headlights, stay clear.More

You have to have the Washline Bacon! Literally one of the best appetizers I’ve ever eaten. Is it bad manners to lick a wooden bowl? Are you sure?

Excellent all the way around. Drinks at the bar were great. Table server was great. Had curry shrimp, ahi tostadas, and a wedge salad, all very tasty. Would definitely recommend

SD was "full" with reservations so we were perfectly fine to sit at their beautiful spacious bar with fantastic eclectic music choices. #1 tip for frequent diners: ALWAYS ask the server for their/the favorite menu items - it's virtually fool proof. Our winner bartender (unfortunately...forgot her name! "Bar 0 on the receipt - really pretty, long dark hair, tats) came through by suggesting the Caesar salad and the Sesame-Coconut Crusted Snapper with coconut black rice, Asian pear salad, and spicy peanut sauce. Total Flavortown, it was amazing in all ways! The salad was somewhat deconstructed and one of the best of I've ever had (beware, anchovies). Their truffle fries!!!!!!!!!! A generous portion, perfectly seasoned, perfectly salted (a tricky balance imo)--simply enough reason in and of itself to return to any restaurant for me at least! As if all of that wasn't enough decadence, the chef killed it with the blueberry cheesecake. Emphasis on blueberries and smudges of toasted marshmallow fluff on the plate. I withhold one star simply because I think the host(s) at the entrance are practically THE tone-setter of any restaurant. On this night, both girls were probably too young. They were not professional for such a pricey establishment: they were not pro-active in any way (we had to ask to sit at the bar when told they were full. I mean, really??). We saw them with other patrons, never smiling, not truly *hosting.More

Ordered Grouper on shared plate. One plate was very “oily “ and second plate was dry and over done. Service was fine. Friend also had Grouper and was also dry; other plate was short ribs and they were tasty.

We had a birthday reservation on the patio that was made in February for June. There was no disclaimer that the patio request was subject to be canceled if it’s raining. We received a text message that table was ready in 30 minutes, we headed...to Surfing Deer only to be told by the hostess that our reservation was canceled due to weather and they wouldn’t do anything to make it up. The hostess was extremely rude and told us we could walk over to the sister walk in restaurant and wait an hour. She said all coming from the manager. I urge you to reconsider dining with them on your vacation. We loved our visit last year but will never return.More

First ate here two years ago and was VERY disappointed. Have since dined there twice within the last two months. The food is EXCELLENT but expensive. Our family of four ran up a $250 bill easily and that was with only two drinks! The atmosphere...is purposefully noisy and if the weather isn't too steamy, an outside table is nice. While you'll be looking at traffic, the water features drown out the noise of the cars. Make sure you have reservations BUT if you go at the last minute, try sitting at the bar. Service is great and the full menu is available.More

They don’t mind canceling a reservation on you at the hostess stand if it’s sprinkling on the patio though…
