About
Fine Italian food in downtown Sarasota with outdoor dining and a nostalgic bar that is family friendly. Memories are being served. Caragiulos became one of Sarasota’s most popular eateries in much the same way the family found the cozy storefront on Palm Avenue, with… ease. From his bakery in Brooklyn, Tony Caragiulo and his five sons came to Florida in pursuit of an agreeable location to open a simple Italian restaurant. After an exhausting, two week long car trek around Florida with no prospects and tempers flaring, Tony signaled for the car to pull over; “Stoppa the*#!*#!!!!car!,… This is it,” he declared, pointing to the vacant stucco location… And it was.

A little research prior to our trip really paid off at Caraguilos. Our food was excellent! Caragiulos restaurant is located in downtown Sarasota. While we stayed on Longboat Key, the drive is not far and it was easy to located the restaurant. The is on-street parking nearby so parking was not an issue during our visit. Being an Italian restaurant, much of the food is prepared in-house...think pasta, bread, doughnuts and Tiramisu...all of which warrant a try while dining there. The bread was so delicious, we ordered a second order. There were 3 in our party; everyone's food was excellent! One person ordered Eggplant Parmesan; another ordered Lasagna and one ordered Grouper. I do not think you can make a mistake ordering. Our server brought us a "taste" of several wines so we could select the individual wines for our meal. I consider this "fine-dining"; we paid about $50 per person including, food, wine tax and tip. You will definitely want to get a reservation.

Very nice atmosphere, cozy and warm. They also have outside seating available. We went to an early dinner and we were met by a friendly hostess and seated immediately. There is a bar area if you would like to have a drink if you need to wait for a table. Although the restaurant did get busy so you might want to make a reservation. Our waiter was very friendly, professional and helpful. My friend ordered their lasagna at his suggestion and I ordered clams with pasta in olive oil with garlic. We were served a warm bread basket. The bread was like a pizza bread with some tomatoes on it, very good. Then we shared their chopped salad. Very fresh and very tasty. My friend loved her lasagna and I too enjoyed my entree. The pasta was cooked perfect and the clams were fresh and delicious. It was one of the best clams and pasta I've ever had. No room for dessert but what we saw looked great. We both said we would definitely go back.

We live in walking distance of this place and have always considered it contestant. Until recently. Our last 3 visits were not good. The orders were mixed up..wrong. The meatball at one time was good..now just eatable. The pizza at one time good..now very poor. And finally , the service boardered on rude at our last visit..one person ordered GF pasta..when it was delivered the waitress begin grading cheese over it...W/O asking...when asked if it was GF..she just kept grading cheese and said..:really " Guess we take this one off or list..but its so disappointing.

We were sat immediately on Christmas eve which was nice, but it quickly went down hill after that! The waiter was pre occupied with something other than us and left us too long to order. I ordered Chicken Marsala w/ pasta in Marsala Wine, what I got was Chicken Marsala with polenta which I was very clear I did not want. Well the chicken was very small and tasteless, the marsala they used was cheap and tasted like nothing, over the soggy tasteless polenta, the meal was not fit for a dog. The waiter did not bring us our meal, he checked in on us when we were almost done and I told him I got the wrong order and offered replacement but I was like no thanks, it tasted terrible and he walked away. They did not offer us anything for terrible service and a horrible meal. I went there years earlier and remember it was not so good, Im guessing nothing has changed over time, not sure how they stay in business. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone save your money and go someplace else, what a waste of money, oh and the drinks are very small too and they charge a premium for them, what a joke.

Food and service below average. I recall this restaurant offering a much better experience. Food taste and quality just not that good and service was slow and inattentive. So many other good choices downtown, cannot recommend

Arrived 5 minutes early for our table and the hostess loudly and rudely told us " you are WAY too early to be seated " We noticed a table for 2 unoccupied near the front as we sat and waited for our table. 10 minutes later, the hostess led us to the very same unoccupied table we noticed earlier and with a sly grin said our table was now ready. Wow ! what a bad way to start a meal ! Anyway, Julie was our server and she was great . The food was good , but not great. We will not be returning which is too bad as this restaurant was one of our favorites and we usually eat there 2 X a month

Spotted this place on beautiful Palm Street while on a morning stroll from our hotel in the Arts District. Was impressed with what I saw on the menu posted by the door so we decided to try it that evening. We were not at all disappointed. Pleasant and reasonably quiet atmosphere, excellent service, and food to die for. My wife could only put away half of her pizza and I was unable to finish my huge serving of eggplant parmigiana, which was served rather like lasagna and nearly 3" thick. We were even unable to finish the delicious bread that was served with excellent dipping oil. My house chianti could have passes for a classico (had no trouble finishing it!). The prices were surprisingly modest. Thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience.

Came here after being turned off by a miserable wait time at Fish Camp. Boy were we happily surprised at how much we enjoyed our meals. Table for four wit no wait despite not having a reservation. Service was adequate, albeit a little slow, but the food was well worth it. Little neck clams with linguini, salmon, veal piccata, and lasagna all superbly prepared and reasonably priced. Great start to our week in Sarasota.

Disappointed this time. We have been to this restaurant many times over the years. We have never had a bad meal or had poor service until this trip. We called ahead and were seated outside, because we were a party of 9. Our order was taken and we specifically told her of gluten allergies. Once food was brought out, (not by server) she never came to offer grated cheese or to check if orders were correct. We went to find a server to ask for more sauce for one plate. We found our own grater on a cart and grated the cheese ourselves. She complained to us for the number of checks 5) for our party. One of our party, who is extremely gluten sensitive, had significant gluten contamination of her food, which had never happened before at this restaurant. We are hoping this was a one time disappointment and will give it another chance on our next trip. Just sorry it wasn’t up to par for what we have grown to love about the place.

The entrees were good - I had artichoke “crusted” grouper, which was more like an artichoke mash on top. That said, it was very tasty. Tartuffo pasta was very good. The pizza was not great. A little raw and disappointing. When we asked for an additional dessert, we were told that the kitchen was already wrapping up the food. The restaurant was mostly full at the time. Just a weird response.

Make reservations! We did. I had the island clams and linguini, husband had a chef special shrimp puttanesca both were delicious. Started with the meatballs, yum. And the bread, oh the bread...warm and tastes like pizza dough. Fun, lively atmosphere. The restaurant has been opened for 32 years, our waiter has been there 31...he was the best! The hostess was sweet too.

We had dinner here on 9/24 with early reservations. We arrived before they opened and we were waiting for a table outside. A waitress, Julie, came outside and gladly seated us before they opened. She happened to be our waitress and was outstanding. Three of us asked for modifications to our entrees. Every time she said, “sure we can do that.” She was attentive without smothering and made our meal a more than pleasant experience. She obviously enjoys her work. The food was excellent as well. .

We were here for my wife's birthday and had a great dinner. We each had a glass of house wine and my wife had veal picatta while I had marsala. The marsala style isn't actually on the menu but they prepare it upon request. We had a great time, well served by Brittany.

8 of us were there on a beautiful March evening. After 15 minutes we were “greeted” by the surliest, rudest and most obnoxious waiter I have ever met! He announced he could not do separate checks and told us to hurry up with our dinner decisions. Dinner finally came and after we had eaten we waited another 1/2 hour for the check which we had to ask for. If I ever go back I would move tables if he were the waiter who came to the table. The food got the 4 - the waiter gets a 0 and should be fired!
