Delicious authentic Italian food served at this family owned and operated restaurants in downtown Sarasota. Wonderful owner Mario and his lovely daughter Julia made us feel like we were the only ones there dispite being very busy. The BEST restaurant in Sarasota by far.

We love Italian food and eat out often but have not tasted Italian food this good since we last visited Italy. This small family operated restaurant delivered exceptional authentic Italian food in every single thing we ate. From the first dip of bread and rice...balls into the mouth watering marinara sauce, to the meatballs we ordered as a starter. Then we enjoyed pasta carbonara and Veal saltimbocca that was every bit as good as we had in Rome. Just when we thought it could not get any better we split a slice of cheese cake that was unlike any we have had before and ranks as our all-time favorite. The family made us feel so at home and comfortable in this small but charming restaurant that did feel like it was in Italy. This was our first visit but we are already planning go back soon and often.More

I searched TripAdvisor for a restaurant for our last night of vacation in Sarasota. We decided on La Mucca Ballerina as we both love Italian food. We ate dinner at two other Italian restaurants in the same area on this trip. La Mucca Ballerina is...far superior to the others. We felt like we were back in Italy! The food was absolutely delicious! This is a true authentic Italian restaurant. Even the bread and focaccia they served were fantastic! We started with the eggplant rollatini before dinner. I ordered Cacio e Pepe and my husband had the lasagna. We kept commenting during our dinner how delicious everything tasted, and how it was just like the food we enjoyed in Italy! All the pasta was homemade and fresh! They have a good selection of Italian wines. We had a bottle of reasonably priced red from Montelpulciano that perfectly complimented our meals. Even though we were very full, my husband loves pizza so we ordered one to go to eat the next day. I’ll say again, we were very full! On our walk home we could smell the delicious aromas of the pizza in the box. I suggested we taste it while it was hot. When we got to the hotel room, we ate some of the pizza just to taste it. Oh my! It was maybe the best pizza I’ve had! We couldn’t believe how it could taste so good when we were so full! I rarely write reviews, but I just had to for La Mucca Ballerina:) This is a family owned restaurant which added to its charm! Mario is the owner. He brought the food to the tables as he finished cooking it! His daughter Julia was our sweet and knowledgeable server. She made recommendations for our food selections upon our request. Don’t expect to rush through the evening. Just like in Italy, dinner is an experience so it takes a while. Sit back and enjoy:) This is a must-do when in the Sarasota area. We will make a point to visit anytime we are on the central gulf coast!More

The best Italian restaurant outside of NYC. The small, family owned restaurant has THE best food we have ever eaten, & we owned an Italian restaurant years ago. The portions are large. We ended up taking food home for dinner the next night! The staff...are family members, very nice & helpful. They made you feel right at home. I strongly suggest trying this place out. You won’t be disappointed!More

For the second time we were there last night. The place has a very natural at home kind of feel. It’s not for those seeking to dine with the aristocracy. Instead, it is for those whom want to visit a family friends house to enjoy...the day and reflect on all things good. The food is traditional straightforward Italian and fresh. (I would know as I’m 94% Italian according to Ancestry. Besides that, I cook as well). It’s a family run joint the kids are the waitresses. We we one of the last couples there last night and Mario the owner came out to thank us for being there. Since we typically go to Italy once a year, we had much to talk about and we enjoyed an honest conversation with him. He’s a nice guy. We even gave him some suggestions to consider. For instance, we said that we think having Granitas would be fabulous as no other place has that. Anyway, we’ll be back there. If you like old school Italian restaurants in Italy, you’ll problem like this place too. Mangia. Ciao’ Joe L.More

Low key, friendly and so very delicious. We love this place and bring our friends and family often. In a city with many superb restaurants, this a jewel.

Enjoyed a very good relaxing lunch with my wife. She enjoyed her ensalada caprese and I enjoyed a tasty Marguerita pizza. The crust was fabulous! They have outside seating and good healthy guidelines. Very clean establishment, employees wore masks. Highly recommend it!

Our friends took us to their best kept secret. Here is a family making food from scratch that have flavors that you swear if you look out the window your in Italy. Our friends confessed they have eaten up to 3 times a week here,...and I get it. Give me some crusty bread, good wine and a homemade pasta dish and I am one happy girl. Dine in or outside dining too. Pretty sure they do carryout as well.More
