Great options for lunch- friend is gluten free and the gluten free pita was delicious- sharing is key here with so many great choices- portions are generous- lunch brings a busy crowd- when it filled up seemed to only have one waiter but he did...a great job considering! Also the house wine is quite tasty and priced fair- try the rose!More
An eclectic menu with many non- Greek dishes, such as pizza and bangers & mash. But the octopus was superb, the service attentive, and the drinks options adequate.
If you used to come to the Greek restaurant that 1592 replaced on the corner of Main and Orange, this new Greek/Lebanese/Mediterranean restaurant is 20 time better in its menu and 50 times better in the quality of its food and as good or better...than any lunch place in Sarasota. Next will be our trying it for dinner, with very high expectations. The menu is focused on Greek and Lebanese specialties done the 1592 way. The owners moved here from Montreal so don't be shocked if you find Montreal poutine on the menu. Someday I may have the courage to try it. Today I had the beet, feta (very fresh!) and arugula salad, which is heaven. Then I ordered the pulled lamb (not a gyro) which was a ton of delicious and perfectly cook lamb from the leg, festooned with seasoned yogurt on pita and out of this world. My buddy just stuck with the lamb and he couldn't stop saying that wants to bring his wife here for dinner. Considering I had the remarkable salad, I could only get through half the pita-load of lamb and just finished the rest for dinner. A 30-second nuke and it was perfect. Looking forward to getting back there for at least lunch and perhaps dinner. On their extensive menu they have a peri-peri lamb dish, and as I'm a peri-peri nut, that's for me. I must also mention that the interior has been completely redone and attractively modernized, with a long and beautiful bar, and lots of high tops and regular tables, plus a whole lot of tables outside for a cool evening. Their happy looks generous and inexpensive. 1592 should not be missed.More
We used to enjoy this restaurant and came often. Tonight was very disappointing… First, the Vegetable Moussska was no longer on the menu… then the Cauliflower Steak wasn’t available… then the pita came out hard and cold… then the Moussska was just okay… our friends...suggested that there must have been a change in chefs… then the roasted vegetables were tough to chew and unpleasant tasting … we had to look for someone to bring fresh silverware after 2 place settings were removed after appetizers..our water glasses were never refilled…Perhaps ownership had changed… or chefs ?? Verrrry disappointing…More
This was the worst food I have ever had, l do not like to complain or send food back so I paid $110 that included gratuity because it was a party of 6, but I was still hungry afterwards if you can see the second...picture, the one to the right that was chicken it was dry and cold that was my granddaughters kids meal. Not To mention this wasn’t my first time trying the food of this culture but it was the worst. I really wanted my money back….More
The service was excellent. Food is outstanding. No downside here except maybe the parking Lol We will be back because I want to try every dish.
Strolling down Main Street mid week recently, I noticed that this was the busiest restaurant on the block. So when my family came in from out of town, I selected this and it was a hit with everyone I have been there before… My companion...is Gluten and dairy free, she had sushi grade tuna steak and a gorgeous salad to substitute for another item that is generally served with it. It came with hummus, and she ordered a gluten-free pita ($4) also. Another companion had octopus and zucchini beignets... I wasn't familiar with them it's served on a bed of feta cheese and tzatziki?, Another companion had a gorgeous piece of salmon that was woodfired Grilled On a bed of rice. I ordered beets salad with feta cheese and walnuts and greens, and also I got Saganaki the cheese dish that they set on fire. (I wasn't loving their version of this dish) We ate early on a Sunday so had an advantage to get happy hour bar prices for the wine! Five dollars! And five dollars for the zucchini, normally 11. The service by Bella was perfect, seating outside is first come first serve but the inside is also very nice and not claustrophobic. This is a restaurant that's highly recommended ..you can't go wrong .. Last time I was There I had an open face falafel sandwich and it was delicious, and -different-More
A+ sums up the overall experience — food and service. The restaurant was bustling with activity when we arrived, and we were immediately seated. It was genuinely hard for us to choose because there were so many interesting appealing items on the menu. We thoroughly...enjoyed the pita with Lebanese ricotta spread, grilled octopus, fried calamari with greens, grilled shrimp pita, stewed lamb pita, and baklava for desert. Service was attentive, food service prompt, prices reasonable. A+More
Had the most delicious fried calamari with greens, turned out the greens were arugula which I am usually not very fond of, but now might be! They put a wonderful light and fresh dressing to it and added the right amount of hot pepper and...pickled red onions. A perfect composition - but it’s only available on the happy hour menu.More
Ate here recently. Had the baba ghanoush and grilled chicken breast open pita. Both were very good. My friend & I sat outside. Our server, Andy, was great. Would recommend making a reservation.
I went here for the happy hour and early special. $16 Lauren-Perrier champagne is an incredible deal but of course they claimed to run out and made it difficult for customers to actually get it. That aside, the service was on the better side of...good. The food was mostly Greek or Turkish-inspired. Not only was it super fresh and well-prepared but priced were more than fair. The outside seating with white tablecloths was elegant. If I had complaint: 1) No bread served with meal 2) I expected more wine from Sardinia, Sillily, Greece and Turkey. Maybe even some Lebanese or Israeli wine. I didn’t think the wine list matched the fayre. The wine list was way too French and California. 3) I don’t think pizzas work. Sure they are cheap with high profit margin but everyone had pizza. All things considered, I would return and recommend it. With a few changes it would be even better.More
What a nice surprise for a restaurant that is a hidden gem. Beautiful night for outside dining, especially with Main Street all lit up for Christmas. Menu was interesting with heavy emphasis on Greek food. We shared a Saganaki Flambé, guaranteed to make the other...diners gasp when the cheese is torched and set afire. Delicious! We ate “light” but my husband enjoyed his burger and I really liked my open face grilled shrimp. All of this wouldn’t have been possible without the seamless serving by our waiter, Eduardo. He was knowledgeable, professional, pleasant and efficient. I would recommend reservations as the place was quite busy for a Monday night. If you get Eduardo as a server, you’ll be very happy.More
My husband and I and our two guests had a fabulous meal here. The menu is amazing (my vegetarian husband was very pleased with the selection). The food was well prepared and delicious! But, the best part of the meal was George, our server. What...a gem! He is friendly and professional! We will be back often.More
I started with a dozen of chilled oysters on half shell. Price was okay for downtown SRQ for east coast oyster. 19$ for a dozen. Noticed the oysters are on happy hour and special day for a $1 each. That is the price the oyster...would be worth, it is not a top notch flavored oyster. So for a low brine oyster, one expects a bit of plumpness. At least 1/3 to 1/2 were very small. Two were not enough meat for a bird. They don’t come with crackers. I asked and was told we don’t have crackers. WHAT ? We have fried pita, would you like that the waiter asks me. Sure I say. Not great but provides the needed crunch and base. Get the bill and was charged $2.00. Making the subpar oyster experience now $21. I ordered another sandwich item that I felt would have been good with fewer carrots and the falafel, while tender and made in house was not temperature wise hot enough. I would have preferred a bit drier preparation on the falafel. I had water. Other tables given bottles. I had to ask 3 times for water and never given a bottle. My initial cloth napkin wrapped silver was also dirty. They have updated the look from the previous place and changed the menu. The ownership feels the same. I am not sure I will visit this place again. I live here and downtown is one of may favorite places to grab a nice meal. Thanks, but there are other places downtown for this pescatarian to eat.More
