Last Saturday was our first visit to Sage and I’m already looking forward to our next dinner. The architecture and atmosphere are unique and beautiful. We ordered the agnolotti at the recommendation of the chef, and the octopus. Both were cooked and presented perfectly. We...also split the caesar, which our server brought out on two plates which was appreciated. Servers and bartenders were friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Service slowed down a bit towards the end of our meal but the food was well worth a bit of a wait. Overall fabulous experience.More

Atmosphere is beautiful- wish there was a larger menu selection/ hubby wanted some bread or just a side of rice or pasta - anything carb like - we were willing to pay but the servers said there was nothing we could get- very specific menu...with no modifications is hard for some diners- wish there were some side options to please picky eaters - service and drinks were great!More

This was our first visit to Sage. We had Jonathon as our waiter and he made the dinner so enjoyable with his great service and knowledge of Sage. I had fun trying to find something that Johanthon couldn't answer for me - I lost and...all of his recommendations were right on. Sage has now become one of our top choices for a great dinner in Sarasota.More

We have been to Sage about a dozen times and every visit was superb! We have hosted numerous guests including two parties of about eight friends in each and all were very pleased at the food, ambience and service. We are returning next week with...another couple who haven't been to Sage and am certain they, too, will become regulars.More

We arrived on vacation, used to live here. Sage did not exist when we left. We went for our 10 year anniversary based on a recommendation from a friend. Exceeded all expectations. Although we were sat next to a bunch of loud kids upstairs, (wtf...we are on our anniversary), the food made up for the miss-seating. Once ago I was a Chef. On my knife… ON MY KNIFE, these guys can cook! FIRE on all levels. Thank You.More

Greeted in this historic building. Enjoyed the personal and attentive service from Mallery. An appetizer to stimulate the desire for the delicately prepared meal. OK, I am not a gourmet, but the desricptions on the menu were delivered on our plates. Beautiful to look at,...and wonderful to taste and enjoy. Our waiter took great care of us - from start to finish. What a major difference than almost every other restaurant in our area. Thank you for an enjoyable evening!More

Heard a lot about the place so we went. Service was slow and inept. No bread available, even for a price. Want salt, no dice. The chef, I'm told, knows just how to season the food, so you don't have to. The food was overly...sauced and over priced. Never again.More

What is there to like, what is there not to like? The young hostess appeared to not like her job and was bored. The two bartenders on the roof patio that were condescending and arrogant. Our server was adequate. The food was underwhelming so say...the least. The building was the nicest part of our experience, also the valet was nice. The establishment was clean, the prices were reasonable. The overall menu was lacking. This is a place to avoid. It was the worst dining experience we have had in years. If you check my past reviews you see that very very seldom do I dislike a place as much as this place. We visited on a Friday night when it should have been busy but it wasn’t and I can certainly see why. The owners seem to be trying hard with a beautiful building but the staff lacks training. The food was lacking in quantity and quality, my duck breast was dry and tasteless. My wife’s salmon was lacking in flavor with both meals hardly hot. Trying hard not to sound like a snob but wow it just was terrible from start to finish.More

In a historic building it’s a nice spot, cool art with a chill vibe. It has a nice bar with a good drinks menu although we could not transfer our tab to the table which was weird for a high end place. Server was good...and knowledgeable. Where it lacked was the food. Although presentation was nice , flavors were lacking. The spring roll was dull and the sauce was wrong. The hamaichi crudo was actually pretty good. The Thai bouillabaisse which is a signature dish lacked any real depth , the Pork porterhouse was over cooked and the salmon was just okay. Desserts- the Paris coconut cream brest was okay but the cream lacked coconut flavor. The crème brûlée was the best thing all night. We did not get to experience the rooftop as there was a wedding.More

The food and the cocktails were both first rate. I can see why they never remove that bouillabaisse from the menu. Sat in the outdoor section.

I do not have a good reason as to why this was my first time to Sage. But I do have good reason as to why it’s now my #1 restaurant in Sarasota for a great night out! My mom and I went on a...Saturday night. Reservations at 6PM. We were promptly greeted at the hostess stand and then seated by our server. I really liked being seated by the server. It felt like a warm invitation into someone’s home . It felt more personal rather than just being dumped off at the table by host/hostess. The server whose name I shamefully can’t recall was FANTASTIC! He was consistently professional and friendly. He really seemed to want us to enjoy the evening. The Caesar salad - DELICIOUS. A fresh, light take on a classic. The hint of lime and fresh crunchy romaine hearts were such a refreshing change from a traditional over-dressed heavy Caesar. Mom and I split the salad. It was the perfect portion. The heritage pork AND the Chicken Saltimbocca BOTH were a 10!!! We shared the entrees since they both appealed to us. Could not decide which we liked better. The food was so excellent that we felt compelled to order 2 deserts - just for experimentation of course ;) The lemon cheesecake was good but the Orangesicle Crème Brûlée was a dream. The silkiest texture and right level of flavor. The sugar was caramleied perfectly for a perfect crunchy contract to the velvety inside. AMAZING! My new favorite place!More

I typically write reviews only when I have had a memorable experience (either because it was good or bad). This review is the first time I have written a review pursuant to an experience with both characteristics. Sage has a great concept and presence. The...physical environment, ambience, and service are terrific. There is a rooftop bar and, based upon what one of the employees whom I talked with, said there are plans to add food service (a good indication that the owners are fully invested). The presentation of the food is truly artistic and imaginative. At least for us, taste (with the exception of the caesar salad) fell short of artistry. A big disappointment was the shrimp, which was described in exotic and pungent terms. The dish I was served, however, had a salt overdose (or the functional equivalent thereof), that for me overpowered the flavors. About halfway through the meal, I threw in the towel with respect to the shrimp. Once my spouse finished, I requested the check -- at which point the waiter asked if I had a problem with my dish. I told him it was too salty for my taste. He asked if I would like something else, and I told him "no, that's okay -- problem. (Unless something like a glass of wine is spoiled, my practice is not to ask for a replacement or a comp because the restaurant should not bear the burden of my not liking a dish simply for taste reasons). We were surprised, therefore, when the waiter returned and said the manager would not take the meal off the check because I had eaten too much of it. We were taken aback, because we never asked to have the dish removed from the check. The manager's response to a request we never made came across as gratuitous and left us feeling that we were thought of as scammers. We then left with a "bad taste in our mouths." So, in sum, we really liked the environment and concept. The food, from our perspective, was presented beautifully, but taste was nothing to rave about. Based in significant part upon the incident at the end of the meal, and given the multitude of dining choices in downtown Sarasota, I doubt we would return.More

Beautiful old building with character. For starters we ordered strawberry salad with hazelnut butter mint preserved lemon and black radishes, although it looked like it was from a food magazine there was absolutely no flavour. My husband had the braised seasonal mushrooms and puff pastry...with blood orange balsamic reduction this was much more favourable but could have used another piece of pastry. For our main courses we had the monkfish also a beautiful presentation but not great flavour and the short ribs which were dry. We have to say presentation is over the top but much more flavour needs to be added. Then just before we were going to have dessert and finish our wine a table of 10 extremely loud people sat down behind us. Within 15 minutes they managed to clear out most of the restaurant except for a couple that had just come in shortly before them. Parties of 10 should be in private rooms or seated in the bar area where you expect loud noise that goes along with the loud music. Although our dinner was somewhat disappointing Jordan our waiter was extremely pleasant and understood why we were leaving so abruptly. The evening ended on a very pleasant note in that we took our wine and went to the rooftop bar and sat around the fire.More

We went for the first time last weekend and couldn't have been more impressed. The building itself is beautiful and worth exploring. It's nice to see historic buildings restored and repurposed like this. The food was outstanding and exactly what one should expect from a...fine dining experience. The chef has a wide range of culinary perspectives and is able to fuse them in interesting and delicious ways. The Thai Bouillabaisse is a great example of a traditional french dish uplifted with Thai influences. I had the Grilled Pork Chop with Pan Seared Gnudi and Apple Sage Chutnery and it was the best pork chop I've ever had. Service was outstanding as Cassie was extremely knowledgeable about the menu down to the details of preparation. Highly recommend if you want to treat yourself to what a night of fine dining is all about.More

First visit in over 2 years. I have to say a much improved operation. Has lost its pretentious. A great roof top open air bar but lacking good bar staff. In the restaurant service was somewhat amateurish. Not the guys fault. Lacked training, however the...foods and wines were both excellent and fairly price for such a great venue. Will not hesitate going again soon.More
