As a London-born-and-bred transplant to the United States, I admit I was somewhat sceptical about Shakespeare's claim to British authenticity. The "English Style Poutine" at the top of the menu did not reassure: I assume the Québécois, for whom poutine is a national dish, will...agree this is a definite oxymoron. As it turned out, however, our visit on a hot day in June (June 7, 2023, to be precise) was thoroughly enjoyable. We had the fish & chips and bangers & mash. The former was delicious and the latter just as tasty, even if the bangers didn't quite bang in the old-country manner. But then, real Cumberland sausages reside exclusively across the pond. Great beer on tap, recommended by our server, who was excellent throughout. The place, though well-populated, was quiet and conducive to conversation. Will definitely visit again!More

Went after a Red Sox - Orioles spring training game on the strong recommendation of a friend. Place was pretty full, maybe too full for the staff. My friends both ordered burgers. Server one set them down but they didn't look like what was ordered....Server two came along and took them away, dropping off two different ones then came back and replaced one of those saying the original was correct. It was almost comical. I was sick of burgers and fries so I ordered a chicken sandwich and mashed potatoes. The mashed had no cream, butter or seasoning, they were just potatoes mashed. The beer choices were good though.More

Had lunch at this place last week. Typically do a hambuger or chicken sandwich but decided to do the fish and chips since they supposedly have the best in the area. These were definitely not good. All heavy batter and in one of the pieces,...barely anything that looked like it could be fish. The other piece had some fish, but it was very slight. Overall the dish was greasy. Funny the staff had no comment about the abundance of battered remains on the plates.More

We made it a point to try Shakespeare's after finding it on TripAdvisor. They have a nice selection of craft beer and English Pub food. We tried their Potato Lids which we enjoyed. The patron next to me ordered what appeared to be their version...of Toad in a Hole called Sausage in Pastry which looked good. We recommended Shakespeare's to friends staying at Siesta Key.More

I went today to try a burger at 3PM: asked for "medium rare" and I got a "rare" one! I ate only the "crust", and the caramelized onions had a weird taste I did not like (maybe some balsamic vinegar?!?). The Brie on top of...the burger was OK. The best: the fries!More

Was in the mood for a good burger - read that Skakespeares was known in Sarasota for their burgers. They did not disappoint! Their menu was mainly burgers - of all kinds. I went with a typical cheeseburger & fries. Very juicy, tasty and filling!...Wait staff were very pleasant, prompt and efficient. Fries were good and I also ordered a house salad with honey mustard dressing (which was a good size and fresh/tasty). It is a Pub Style (casual) atmosphere and if you want Ale or Beer the menu is HUGE. I would recommend and next time I have a burger craving, I will return!More

i tried all the recommended burger places; this was the best. Burgers elsewhere were smashed and not nearly as tasty.

We stumbled upon this place while looking for something else. It was terrific. Our bartender, BK, was a pleasure! The food was amazing - we shared the potato skins to start and the shared the fish sandwich. Glad we did because portions were more than...ample and delicious. We’ll definitely return when in the area again.More

This was a very comfortable local, neighborhood style pub with very friendly service, good food and reasonable prices. Fish and chips were delicious - huge portion! The onion and brie burger, outstanding. We were there first thing Sunday as they opened. It was soon half...full with locals who were known by the staff by name.More

The Brie and carmelized onion burger is the BEST!!!! The cole slaw is fresh, with just the right amount of sweetness and tartness. Salads are also terrific. This is our favorite pub style restaurant in SRQ. Food is consistently excellent.
